Breakfast/ Dinner/ Lunch

Debbie Downer

Bad news bears.

We had a major coffee spillage in my purse and it broke my camera. Seriously.

All the pictures I took still came out because it didn’t effect my memory card, but the camera lense is shot. Bah!!! I’m still debating what to do……….technically I could go to best buy tomorrow after work and buy a NEW camera but then I might not be able to eat for the next month. I’m not sure what to do. The camera still WORKS (as in it still takes pictures) but the screen which you look at you take a picture is totally black because of liquid damage…..so basically, all my photos are now “free for alls” which I blindly take pictures of food. Not really good for my food blogger profession, now is it? 🙁 And no, sadly the camera is not under warranty. Double boo.

okay. enough of my whining—–on to my day! Which was pretty good until the broken camera and wet purse bit. This morning I woke up to find the temperature outside had dropped 25 degrees!!! LOVE IT!!! Can you say, hello new cute sweaters from anthropologie?! 😉 For breakfast I made a big yogurt bowl with a cup of Oikos plain nonfat, 2/3rds cup puffins, 2 tbsp Udi’s Granola, 1 banana and a big spoonful of peanut butter:

img_3067.JPG

For lunch, I brought a “baked tofu sandwich” on an Arnold’s Sandwich thin with provolone:

img_3064.JPG

However—-it was GROSS and I only ate half because I got served a steaming hot bowl of tomato basil soup at work:

img_3072.JPG

One of the sous chefs asked me if I would like to “try” this and of course I said yes! Little did I know I would get such a whopping size portion! Perfect for lunch! It was aaaaaamazing.

I brought a kashi bar and a pear for snacks:

img_3065.JPG

And I ate the bar mid-morning and the pear with my soup.

When I got home at 3:00, I snacked on a pure protein bar, which I don’t have a picture of because this was mid-coffee disaster. Sorry!

And then at 4:00, Betty and I were off to see The Secret Life of Bees. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Loved, loved, loved it! I loved the book and the movie did not disappoint. I just love movies like that, don’t you?! Exactly what I needed today! After the movie, we went to The French Quarter (a cutesy cajun restaurant here) for dinner.

*******all pictures from here on out are taken 100% blindly so they are a little askew!*****

The restaurant prides itself on the “best Caesar salad in Vero Beach” so I just HAD to try it!

img_3092.JPG

On the table was toasted herbed garlic bread with olive oil to dip. I had one piece:

img_3089.JPG

And for my entree, I chose the Blackened Shrimp. One of my favorites! It came with two crabcakes, a fried green tomato, potato gratin and roasted veggies.

img_3093.JPG

It was amazing!!!!! I ate all the shrimp, most of the veggies, half of the fried green tomato, a couple huge bites of the potato gratin and a crab cake and a half. I am completely STUFFED right now! I also had about a glass and a half of wine at dinner. A great treat! 🙂

As for my day, it was busy as usual! Especially so since Adam took the day off and left another long list! 🙂 I started by baking rolls and olive focaccia:

img_3074.JPG

And then I baked toooons of cookies!!!

img_3071.JPG

(and ate a few chocolate chips in the process. Obvi)

I baked a pumpkin pie, a key lime tart and another delish apple oat tart:

img_3073.JPG

img_3075.JPG

And a flourless chocolate cake!

img_3077.JPG

Mini blueberry muffins for tomorrow:

img_3076.JPG

And, finally more pumpkin whoopie pies!

img_3078.JPG

It’s 8:45 and I’m about to get in bed and read. So sorry for the camera problems……I’m frustrated beyond belief because I don’t know if I should just suck it up and wait for Christmas to ask a family member for a new one, or go buy a new one so I can actually see what I’m taking a picture of. I seem to have problems with technology, especially computers and camera. I think I was meant to live in like 1945 or something where people just read books. In the meantime, I WILL continue to take pictures of everything regardless but please just bear with me because its hard to take the perfect food shot when I can’t see anything. Bah.

    Hi Jenna!
So sorry about your camera… I just had the same thing happen to me 🙁 I had some Best Buy coupons though and just got myself a new one, thought I would recommend it to you since I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Olympus Stylus 1010- it even has “Cuisine” Setting! Just a suggestion if you needed one 😉 Hope it helps!

I did the same thing with my camera in March! I left my camera in my purse and my boyrfriend’s roof leaked into my bag and soaked everything, including my brand new camera! I think I actually already told you about my camera fiascos this year, but the camera I mentioned above was my new camera I got for my birthday, but I didn’t have a warrenty so my mom bought a new camera so I could take it to ireland and bought the warrenty this time. The camera that went with me to Ireland got stolen at the DUblin airport and made the warrenty useless. When I got back I caved and bought another camera with a warrenty. A couple of months ago that camera broke adn was unrepairable, luckily the warrenty finally came in handy and I was able to get a brand new replacement camera. That’s 4 New cameras in less then 6 months!!!

Oh dear, I am so sorry about your camera! But hey, it could be worse… Like, you could have some sort of accident and not be able to taste food. That would be much worse for a food blogger! Cheer up…

Total bummer about the camera!! I have my old 5.1 megapixel Nikon with a case and memory card and cable if you want it! I’ve been just hanging on to it since I got my new one! Just email me if you want it, I can ship it out tomorrow if you want…
Your squashes look great too! What do those delicata ones taste like?

I am so sorry about your camera. 🙁 If it were me, I would just go get a new one from Best Buy and try to find a coupon online. However, I typically need instant gratification so probably not the best advice giver when it comes to shopping decisions. 🙂
    So sorry.

Oh my goodness, some of these comments are awesome! You’re so blessed and you have some majorly generous readers who are offering their old cameras! I was in need of a new camera…then I got married. Now I just steal hubby’s all the time…I mean, what’s yours is mine and mine is yours, right? haha 🙂

I’m also a Floridian and am also 100% loving this weather!!

Boo… I’m very sorry to hear about your camera accident. That is such a big bummer. I know what you mean about problems with technology…. I have serious issues with pretty much all computers I come in contact to.
But on the bright side, I think your dinner photos were fantastic! I don’t think I could have taken better photos if I were able to see when I was taking them! 🙂 I guess you must have good aim!

Bummer about your cam! I did the same thing (my husbands coffee thermos spilled on our Canon Rebel! I was so sad…however, the coffee did dry and the camera began working just a couple days later! I hope you enjoy your night and have a great day tomorrow!

Boo to the camera situation. But at least you know you have readers will come through! As soon as I read your post I was like I HAVE to do something like donate money or something because I swear reading your blog everyday is something I appreciate and am not sure I would be happy without it 😉

You could always get a little widget and put it on your blog and have readers donate. I am sure you would get enough in a day or two 🙂

Also, the “blind pictures” still look awesome.

    October 29, 2008 at 6:28 am

Those photos are surprisingly good! It’s so close to Christmas; I say don’t worry about it and let one of your buddies get you another camera. Plus, by then you’ll probably be an expert at the blind shots, anyway! 🙂

If you bought the camera within the last year, it is under warranty by the manufacturer (by law). That might not cover water damage, but it’s worth checking out!

    Jenna,

I just wanted to say that pumpkin whoopie pies look like the greatest thing on earth.

And also, if it makes you feel any better, I haven’t been with my family for Thanksgiving for years (you mentioned this posts back… I am catching up). I know it seems sad but it really is just a day that reminds us to be thankful for the days we should be thankful for EVERYDAY. You’ll make it… and it sounds like your “psuedo” family is doing such a great job taking care of you.

    October 29, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Oh no! Sorry about the camera 🙁 But the “blind shots” came out really well! If you decide to buy a new one and can wait a month, there are usually great deals on cameras the day after Thanksgiving (which is kind of a beating, but you could probably get it online).

even if your camera is not under warranty, try calling the company anyway. you may be able to send it to them and get it fixed at a fraction of what a new one would cost you.

It sucks about your camera. The pics from dinner that you took “blind” are actually pretty good considering so, if it’s between pics like that and not eating I vote for the slightly imperfect pics 🙂
Besides, if you spend all your money on a camera what food will you have to take pictures of?

  • BeeElle
    October 29, 2008 at 4:21 pm

I’m sorry! My camera is broken too – I am using my phone camera and transferring the pics via bluetooth until I can afford to get it fixed or get a new one. Perhaps you could do that??

I’m sorry about your camera! The pictures do look fine though. Can you just look through the little viewfinder like 35mm cameras had or does yours not have one of those? I would stick to your camera for now and ask for one for Christmas. I’m always for saving money when it can be saved. 🙂

    Sorry about your camera Jenna!

I did something similar a few years back. My husband and I were invited on a friends boat, and we brought along beers that needed a bottle opener, so I just grabbed the magnetic one off the fridge and threw it in my purse.

My camera was in there, and when I reached in to get the bottle opener, I noticed that the pointy end cracked my whole screen. It shattered in tiny pieces but was still in tact though, nothing fell out.

I ended up getting a new one 😀
