Huffing and Puffing

So, I’d really love to be motivating and enthusiastic and tell you that resuming your exercise routine after a booze/food filled hiatus is great and wonderful but today’s workout was SO hard! I ran 2 1/2 miles outside and then hit the gym for some abs and the whole time I was huffing and puffing and not having fun. It’s funny how out of shape you feel when you are used to working out daily and then take a week off. Of course I’ve been sick so I was going easy on myself and alternating between walking and running but I kept having cramps in my side the whole time. 🙁 I do feel better now that I have exercised though although I feel a bit worn out. I’m still sort of hacking and sneezing so I’m not in the clear from this nasty cold yet. And now poor Ryan is sick at home as well!

Anyways, before I went out on the run I had half a small banana with some almond butter and then when I returned (sweaty and victorious) I toasted one of my new Rudi’s Honey Sweet Whole Wheat bagels for breakfast. I spread some almond butter on half, jam on the other half and had a yogurt and strawberries as well. These bagels are perfectly portioned at 130 calories each and I feel like they are larger than the “mini bagels” that were really popular a couple months ago. I never felt satisfied after eating a mini-bagel but these are really delicious and hearty for only being 130 calories.

Chef Erin brought me samples of her favorite coffee that you can only buy in Melbourne! mmm!! I’ve heard great things about this coffee and was NOT disappointed this morning. It’s dark and delicious with no bitterness.

Like I said last night, I packed a sandwich today for lunch with chicken leftovers. I used two slices of whole wheat bread, a little dijon mustard, a slice of provolone cheese, some lettuce and chicken. I also packed a peach and some grapes and almonds for a snack later

I know exactly what you mean about the hiatus from working out…it can be a little bit of a struggle at first. I am sure you will be feeling better tomorrow or the next day in terms of working out. Great snacks today, I wish I could remember to be as prepared as you are. Also, question about the bagels…what is the fiber content? ciao lady! Hope you and ryan are feeling better soon!

Yeah…I know the feeling. I was seriously struggling yesterday in spinning after the long weekend.

I’ll have to look for those bagels – they do seem perfect! Probably very similar to Matt’s homemade ones (which take 2 days to make so I need a backup brand!)

I totally know that feeling, too. Everytime it reminds me what a toll on my body booze, extra food, and not working out can take.

I recently tried Fage for the first time. I bought the 0% and didn’t really care for the taste. I noticed you ate the 2% this morning, do you notice a difference in the taste between 0 and 2%? It was really filling, so I wish I liked it!

Those bagels look so good! Are they sold at whole foods?

I just had a question on working out. I never really know what is good to wear and was wondering what you wore to work out/ what brands have good workout clothes?

I hope you don’t mind me asking thanks!

Re: workout clothes- I swear by LuLuLemon- can’t be bit with regards to fit and comfort-the best around!!

I’ll keep an eye out for these Rudi’s bagels, they sound like a great find :).

I am also curious where you found those bagels… I didn’t care for the mini bagels of years past either, but a normal size bagel is sometimes too large for me, depending on what’s on it.

I can’t believe you ran outside! It’s so hot here- I’ve pretty given up on anything but gym workouts right now. Great job getting back into the swing of things!

In my opinion, there’s no better inspiration for eating well (and not drinking too much!) than the way my runs feel when I don’t…

I’d like to hop on the “where do you find those bagels” bandwagon. Am I more likely to find them in the freezer section, like the Ezekiel products, or with the non-sprouted breads?

    Hi Jenna,
Im envious that you spent the weekend in NC. I love Asheville, and if you went to the Asheville Wine Market, its owned by dear family friends of mine. Its an excellent business 🙂

Also, I just started eating meat too, after 10 yrs of vegetarianism. I’ve been training for a marathon, and the extra protein and amino acids have made such a difference!

    Hope your day goes well!

I hate those off-days with working out…but give it a couple more and you’ll be right back on track! My little run on Sunday nearly had me dying (maybe it was the 90*+ heat and humidity in Houston), but today’s felt much better!
I haven’t had a bagel in forever, but between yours and Kath’s today I may need to rethink that and buy some (healthy ones!) soon…

Hey Everyone! I think Jenna got the bagels at Whole Foods! I’ve seen Rudi’s bread there, but never really looked for the bagels….I will next time!!

I like lululemon too! Big problem: EXPENSIVE. But, they are the absolute only brand that truly wicks sweat. Nothing else lasts as long, moves as well, or is as cooling as lulu. They’re always having sales so see how it goes! I also like prana, the champion stuff at target, and american eagle aeriefit (crazy as it sounds haha!) As well as gap body

    Hi Jenna,
I am going to Paris next week to study abroad and was wondering if you had any good food recommendations or places that I should not miss out on. Thanks! I will also be in Florence and Rome if anyone has visited there.
