I made it!!!! Wow, what a long day—California seems like a whole new world and is just SO far away! I AM SO TIRED but soooo excited to finally be here!!! Here’s a recap 🙂
The three alarms Ryan and I set last night goes off at 5:40 am. I decided rather than wasting time by eating at home I could conveniently pack instant oatmeal, a small container of pb, raw cacao nibs + goji berries. I made a juice to go with kiwi, celery, spinach, apple and cucumber. I didn’t take a picture because it is part of the MOVIE I am making of my time in Cali! 😉 Little did I know though that that juice would be my only “food” for many hours. Meh.
The flight from Tampa to Phoenix was rocky, rocky, rocky!!!!!!! And, they were OUT of hot water so no oatmeal :(. I really wasn’t that hungry anyways though (nerves) so I just nibbled on a larabar from my snack stash. This is an awful picture because when I was taking it we were in the middle of bad turbulence!

I tried to sleep but of course could not. So instead, I read 200 pages of The Time Traveler’s Wife!!! OMG, great book! I want to savor each page and am cursing my speed reader self.
After my lovely 5 hour flight out west, I RAN through the Phoenix airport. I “freshened up” in the bathroom (hehe) and actually got a skim milk cappuccino + the perfect oatmeal from Starbucks because I was already tired and knew it would be a loooooooooong day. The oatmeal was actually really good though! Much better than oatmeal I’ve had at Starbucks in the past—I think they used two packages this time PLUS they gave me all three toppings (brown sugar, nuts and dried fruit) so I dumped everything in once on my connecting flight and dug in.

I landed in San Fran around noon but my body felt like it was 3:00 and time for a nap! I wasn’t hungry at all but I knew I should eat something so I ate half of the very (very!) smashed almond butter and banana sandwich from the bottom of my carry-on while I waited in baggage claim for Rocky Slaughter, another Top 10-er who I was meeting and driving up to Sonoma with.

I laughed at the part about 3 alarms. I slept thru a 10k race once and ever since then I have set MULTIPLE alarms for important events.
Have a great time, Jenna! 😀 Your room is amazing, and I’m sure the rest of Cali will be the same.

July 18, 2009 at 8:18 pmGlad you got there safe and sound. Sorry to hear about the turbulence. And NO hot water?!? Egads.
My best interviewing tip is to pretend like you are the interviewer, interviewing them (rather than the other way around). This always helps calm my nerves. You will charm them, I am sure.

July 18, 2009 at 10:17 pmMaybe a good thng that there was no hot water on flight, ’cause I have read some reports recently of the water available on flight often being quite contaminated and taken from taps on flight and usually does not make it to full boiling point to get rid of bacteria…..so I always avoid hot water on flights!!!

July 18, 2009 at 10:41 pmGOOD LUCk!!!!!!
And glad you made it through the turbulence 🙂 I HATE turbelent rides! With my family in Hong Kong, it’s never a pleasure to be on a flight not knowing when it’s going to start getting rocky. You’d think I’d be used to it by now with growing up in tokyo and traveling back and forth all the time.. but there are always surprise bumps in theair!

July 20, 2009 at 11:27 amEnjoy every second of your trip, it sounds beyond amazing! Time Traveler’s Wife is one of my all time favorite books. I have 4 books I won’t ever let anyone borrow because I always want to make sure I have them, and that is one of them! Did you know there is a movie coming out in a few weeks with Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana (who is gorgeous!). Enjoy the end, and have tissues on hand!
