Good Morning!
Hows everyone today?
I just had to tell you, I used my new Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub for the first time last night and it might be love. My skin feels the softest its felt in a long, long time and no break-outs! Joy!
I guess my dermatologist really knew what she was talking about when she recommended this product to me! I love it!
Anyways, back to the food! I was super excited to break into this today:
I love these little crunchy squares of love. I enjoyed about a serving and a half for breakfast in almond milk with a sliced naner and it was perfection.
And tea + to-do list!
On Tuesdays I usually hit up my favorite Hot Yoga Flow class but I really don’t have time today. I love going to classes but they really do take up a solid 2.5 hour chunk of your day when you factor getting there and getting home. I think instead I’m going to do a Dave Farmar Podcast in the comforts of my own living room. 🙂
Other news: today is the big day where I get casted for my custom fit orthotics!!!!! They told me that since I’m paying out of pocket they could do sort of a “payment plan” with me where they divide the cost into three payments. I debated a little but in my heart I know (and hope) this will be worth it. Every day is a day closer to my half marathon in San Fran and I’ve gotta get going!
I’m off to work, work, work. See you for lunch!

June 2, 2009 at 6:03 amGood Morning!
I must have missed it somewhere on the blog but I was wondering if you could explain exactly how you make your Green Monsters. I have always struggled with my skin, and if something that delicious and healthy will help then I want to try it.

I got the idea from Angela’s blog—OhSheGlows.com . On her site she has a whole tutorial! Check it out!

June 2, 2009 at 6:31 amThose Oatmeal Squares are so yummy! One of my favorites! 🙂
Have fun with Dave Farmar this morning! I actually downloaded a few of his sessions myself and think he is quite an excellent instructor. His chatting between the poses tends to make the session go so quickly.
Good luck with the fitting! I’m sure it will be worth it!

June 2, 2009 at 6:36 amMmmm…oatmeal squares. I love that stuff. I have never been to a yoga class before because of the time investment, but I love doing it at home! I’m glad you are getting fit for your orthotics, I hope they help!

June 2, 2009 at 6:41 amI got custom orthotics about three years ago – made a huge difference! My feet are MUCH happier, I think you’ll find that it was money well-spent.

June 2, 2009 at 6:56 amI have never tried those oatmeal squares – they look great, but cereal just does not fill me up! I bet they would be good on yogurt for a snack, though.
I make TONS of lists the old fashioned way 🙂 I have to! I like being able to physically cross stuff off

June 2, 2009 at 7:09 amYoga does take out a big chunk! It’s why I go at 6:30am, but still, time for me to shower and everything and it’s already 9:30! So once in a while, I guess you have to make priorities 🙂
Good luck with the orthotics! I think it’s totally worth it! Hopefully with them you’ll be able to keep on running for a VERY long time 🙂

June 2, 2009 at 7:26 amI just got my orthotics last night in preparation for a 10K this summer! I’ve been putting it off for years. They felt so stabilizing – I know they’ll be a huge help in training.

June 2, 2009 at 7:27 amI swear by Neutrogena products for my face & just started using this gentle scrub not too long ago. I love it!! 🙂

June 2, 2009 at 7:47 amI am sure you will not regreat going with the orthotics.
I have been a “Dove” facewash girl forever now but you have me tempted to try this one!
Do you use a lot of the yoga downloads? I LOVE yoga, it is hard sometimes to take that 1.5 – 2 hours out of my day : ( I really need to start making it a priority again.

June 2, 2009 at 7:50 amGood luck with the orthotics, I think you are definitetly making the right choice.
That cereal looks so good!

June 2, 2009 at 7:52 amHey Jenna! Best of luck with the orthotics! I decided to make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon, and I’m going on Monday . . . as you know, I too get shin splints (or something!), and though they don’t keep me from running (yet), I figure prevention is key! So thanks for the inspiration, and I’ll be eager to hear how your orthotics are working for you!
Kati
June 2, 2009 at 8:04 amI love those Quaker Oat squares…soooo good. I’ve made a green monster the past 2 mornings and LOVE them. It’s how I want to start my day now and I look forward to it like I used to with oats. YUM!

June 2, 2009 at 8:21 amI tried my first Green Monster this morning per your recipe, and LOVED it. I was shocked and amazed, and now I’m addicted. Thanks for the suggestion to add the almond butter, I think that’s what made it soooo delicious.
I totally agree about the pen and paper to do list. There’s something about having a good old-fashioned list that really gets me motivated. That, and I can’t afford an iPhone, haha.

June 2, 2009 at 8:39 amYay! Way to make an investment in your future! (That’s the way to overlook the price tag!) 🙂

June 2, 2009 at 9:14 amHi Jenna, Enjoyed the recommendations on Charleston – visit every year myself. Do you have any recommendations for home breadmakers? Am not a skilled baker, but busy mom who would like to serve unprocessed bread at home. As always, many thanks. Good luck w/the training!

June 2, 2009 at 9:16 amGood look with your appointment! I’ve never had those oatmeal squares before but they look pretty good!

June 2, 2009 at 9:16 amLoved the skin care post, Jenna! Just a little “fyi” for anyone looking to try the Organix hair care products… At Target right now they are all tagged with a mail-in rebate for up to $6.99 to try it free. I know special offers are sometimes different in different regions (I live in MN) but just thought I’d throw it out there, it’s a great deal! My hair is enjoying the cucumber yogurt shampoo effects right now!

June 2, 2009 at 9:19 amI had Oatmeal Squares with banana this morning, too! I love those little things 🙂
Hope the appointment goes well and you’ll be off and running again soon! I suffered with shin splints during my half-marathon training and they were a PAIN! I used an ART (active release technique) provider who used some taping technique that REALLY helped and I was able to finish training AND run my half with no more shin pain!
Matt
June 2, 2009 at 9:33 amI hope the orthotics work out! I can’t imagine not being able to run!

June 2, 2009 at 9:53 amglad you found a way to get your orthotics! they may be pricey but in the end they will probably be worth it.

June 2, 2009 at 10:36 amTwo questions for ya Jenna! First, I always buy the original Oatmeal Squares, so how is the Cinnamon? I’m always afraid that they will be too sweet compared to the original, so I never buy them. Second, that mug is so pretty- Where is it from?
Megs
June 2, 2009 at 10:49 amI just recently got my orthotics and they are wonderful! Took some time to get the right sneakers with them and am still looking for advice so if anyone has any, I’d appreciate it!!

June 2, 2009 at 11:56 ami LOVE those oatmeal squares and haven’t had them in a little while.
i’ve also been using that facial scrub since my junior year of high school. (six years ago–weird.) i love how it smells and i think it has the perfect feeling scrub. i’ve tried different organic and eco-friendly products and haven’t yet found one that measures up.

June 2, 2009 at 1:29 pmI’m not a huge cereal girl, more of an eggs and toast, but when I do occasionally dive into a cold breakfast (or snack!) Quaker Oatmeal Squares and banana are my number one choice!

June 2, 2009 at 6:40 pmRyan told me about your blog, and I’m so glad he did! I really enjoy reading about your food choices, workouts and products. I like to keep focused on eating unprocessed foods and appreciating each meal for it’s flavor and composition as well as nutitional value. I enjoy being educated about food. I look forward to keeping up with you. It helps to have someone to motivate me. If you get a chance, please provide your Cuban black beans and rice recipe. It’s one of my favorite dishes, but I can’t seem to get the right taste at home.
