Lunch

Out On The Town

Wow, thank you all SO much for all the birthday wishes!!!!

They all definitely brought a smile to my face. My day with my mom was good, although we had an awful lunch unfortunately! I didn’t really have a place to eat in mind, so we just walked around and decided upon a small cafe Ryan and I had been to once that we both had really enjoyed. Today, however, it was not the same! We waited almost an hour for our sandwiches and when they arrived we were very disappointed! They forgot the basil and tomato in my pressed eggplant panini so it was basically just a slab of eggplant in greasy bread, and my mom’s fish sandwich was not even cooked properly. When I told them about my sandwich they merely brought it back to the kitchen, stuffed a messy tomato half into it, and served it again to me. It was dripping with grease and very salty. I only could eat half and my poor mom only had a few bites of hers. I didn’t eat any of the chips on my plate, as I really don’t enjoy the greasiness of chips very much. Especially when combined with a very greasy sandwich. We enjoyed the fries though. 😉 Bummer.

However, after lunch, we stopped at this wine bar around the corner where you can enjoy 1 ounce pours of dozens of different wines, all along the wall. I enjoyed an ounce of Cakebread Chardonnay (my fav!) and when the wine purveyor from Roy’s recognized me, he gave me a couple ounces of an Italian red he was trying to sell to the bar. I can’t remember the name of the wine but it had a picture of cake on the bottle and was out of this world. Unfortunately we couldn’t buy a bottle because the wine bar wasn’t selling it yet.

We stopped at Whole Foods to get a little snack because we were both still hungry after the lunch disaster + wine. My mom and I both got a smoothie called “The Wimbledon” which was a delicious combo of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries with blueberry juice and vanilla soy protein powder. I also had a bite of cake back at my apartment when I was packaging up some to take to my mom to bring home.

While at Whole Foods, I picked up dinner for tonight. I got a veggie/avocado roll and a seaweed salad but could only manage to choke down (literally I had to choke it down!) the sushi roll because I am just so not hungry right now. I feel like I’ve been eating all day long! I’m sure I’ll be hungry later in school because of such a light snackish dinner, so I think I’m going to bring a baggie of Cinnamon Harvest cereal as well as a bag of cherries. That should keep me going for awhile.

Was the wine Layer Cake? If so, that is one of my favorite wines!

Happy Birthday also! Birthdays are the best because of all the leftover cake and yummy birthday meals. Sorry to hear your meal was less than stellar.

Aww, dang! You gotta tell me where it was.

I love the wine co. down there though. Next time go to Dexters, they are a pretty safe bet.

Oh no, so sorry to hear about your disasterous birthday lunch, what a bummer! At least the rest of your food for the day looks good. Hope your day was great other than the mediocre lunch meal!

Happy Birthday! I hate when my food is less-than-ideal, it totally puts a damper on my day! (lame, I know!) Anyways, looks like you and your mom had a great mommy/daughter day.

Cakebread is owned by my best friend’s family! 😀 Unfortunately I do not get free swag 🙁

Your Japanese dinner looks simple, fresh and delicious – perfect summer meal. What was the name of the awful cafe in Winter Park? I’ll be sure to stay away!

Jenna, I find this happens SO OFTEN to me when I eat out! I will order something that may be the only vegan thing on the menu and it will basically be a greasy dish and the only thing I really get out of it is processed carbs! I am left feeling unnourished and hunry just an hour or two later!
