Behind The Butter

party food from around the web

The Super Bowl is on Sunday if you haven’t heard!

Now, I’m not that big into NFL football, but since my moms from Wisconsin I have to represent. And by represent, I mean cook a lot of party food and then stuff my face while I pretend to know what’s going on.

Sound familiar? Of course not.

I have a few recipes up my sleeve for the remainder of the week that will be part of our Super Bowl feast, but as I sat online this morning looking for food to expand my waistline, I couldn’t help but become inspired by all of yours!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Walking Tacos from Picky-Palate! Such a fun idea I never would have thought of!

Chili Dungeness Crab Dip from Seasaltwithfood. Dungeness crab season is my favorite time of year in California..this looks fabulous!

Loaded Nachos from Twopeasandtheirpod. I love everything about this recipe.

Layered Buffalo Chicken Nachos from How Sweet Eats. I clearly have nachos on my mind…and for good reason! Jessica, can you come make me these? Please?

Sriracha Honey Buffalo Wings from White On Rice Couple. Anything with sriracha and I’m down! I can’t get enough!

Butter Toffee Crunch from Tasty Kitchen. I love how simple this recipe is! Plus, I’m a sucker for anything with toffee (hint hint get ready for tomorrow)

Pimento Cheese Sliders from Taste and Tell. Pimento cheese brings me back to my roots!

Self-Frosting Nutella Cupcakes from Playing House Blog. I don’t know how she came up with this…but it’s pure genius.

Crispy Baked Panko Sriracha Chicken Tenders from Savor the Thyme. More sriracha! I love it and the sound of this healthy(er) chicken tender recipe.

I’m also including a rather shameless plug for my old fashioned banana pudding, barbecue pulled chicken, buffalo chicken dip, buffalo chicken wontons, cheddar wafers, sweet and spicy barbecue baked beans and wal-mart crack cookies.

I’m off to cream some butter.

I sososo wish I was going to be home for the Super Bowl so I could make some (all) of these! I’ll be traveling back from Michigan and will get home to St. Louis around halftime, to a house-full of people that I’m sure my boyfriend will provide plenty of Tostitos and salsa for (eyeroll).

I have seen the posts for about half the ladies you linked before you linked them here…and it all makes me want to get in my kitchen and make nachos! Or toffee. Or Nutella.

The buffalo chicken dip you make…I want to make that for my hubs. He would be in dip heaven!

Cant wait for your toffee post 🙂

Banana Pudding is one of our holiday favorites. I put a link here just so you can see how I like to make it. My dad used to make it with milk but I got him to start using vanilla pudding just to keep the cookies harder for longer if it’s in the fridge for a day or so. Mmmmm.

    Hi Jenna!
I’m excited to cook for the super bowl, and I have to say that I am kind of a fan of football 🙂
Question: I was going to make banana pudding for all of the non-vegans attending our get together, but am reluctant to because last time I made banana pudding I followed the instructions EXACTLY but my bananas came out black and mushy looking.
I realize that bananas cook very fast, is there a trick to making the pudding without ruining the bananas?

      February 2, 2011 at 12:31 pm

hmmm…that’s a good point! When I make this pudding, I slice the bananas immediately before I use them. That way they only are exposed to the air for a few minutes!

I almost cried when I saw this… my mama’s banana pudding is the BEST. Well, sort of… she uses boxed Jello pudding and cool whip, but it’s what I grew up with, you know? I have to try the foodie version at some point. <3

Also, the pic of those chocolate chip cookies on top? Is that from your recipe you posted on 1/21-ish? With the caramelized butter?

      February 2, 2011 at 1:30 pm

nope! These are chewy and are made with regular butter..not browned. The recipe can be found in my recipe journal.
