Happy Friday!
Sorry for the belated post but hope your Friday morning is going well. 🙂 Here’s a recap of my eats!
Yesterday I had a snack a la Fitnessista!

A piece of millet toast with coconut butter, maca and cinnamon. I liked it but didn’t like how the maca and cinnamon pretty much went up my nose as I ate it. Too powdery! I think my favorite combo is still coconut butter and raspberry jam. This definitely held me over for a few hours though until I met a friend at Barndiva for dinner! Barndiva is actually right around the corner from my house and I’ve always wanted to go but never have been. So glad I finally went because it just might be my new favorite restaurant…the food was out of this world!!!
I had an endive salad with goat cheese, heirloom beets and candied walnuts to start—

SO GOOD!!!!!! Oh man, the little goat cheese croquettes were over the top. I could have probably eaten a whole plate full. They literally melted in your mouth!!
And then for my entree, I had the special, which was scallops. I pretty much order scallops whenever I see them on any menu but my favorite will always be the yummy scallop dish my mama makes at home (mom, can you make this next week for me? Please?!)

Again, so good. I couldn’t really figure out what was underneath but I think it was some sort of extra creamy polenta. Mmmmmm
I also had some delicious vino, of course :). This morning called for cold cereal.

All my favorites: ezekiel cinnamon raisin, cinnamon puffins and nature’s path granola with a banana and almond milk. What is it about cereal that makes it so we could literally eat boxes and boxes during one sitting?! I swear I am a bottomless pit with the stuff and almost always go back for seconds.
***
Thanks so much for your supportive comments about my knee!!!! Y’all, it HURTS! I couldn’t go to yoga this morning because there’s just no way I can sit in any sort of deep squat right now…and then I thought about trying to go out for a run but I actually think I’m just going to take a total rest day. Now that I think about it, I’ve been exercising pretty intensely every day for the past week and a half without any rest. Our body NEEDS recovery, especially when we are training. So often I think we forget how crucial rest is (I know I do!). Without it we are basically just wearing ourselves into the ground.
So, instead, I think I’m going to go head to my “office” (aka Barnes and Noble) and get some writing done. Maybe take a walk later if its still sunny. 🙂
See you in a bit!

January 29, 2010 at 9:43 amOh scallops, so delicous when made well. That dish looks fantastic!
Sorry to hear your knee is bothering you so much, but hopefully the rest day will help and you’ll be in good shape in no time.
I love adding cinnamon to toast, oatmeal, wraps, etc. but you added waaay more than I do! You are bold woman!

January 29, 2010 at 9:49 amThat salad with the goat cheese things… looks insanely good! And no idea why that happens with cereal but it seems like everyone is the same, I’ve seen so many posts about it recently!

January 29, 2010 at 9:50 amWow, that endive salad with goat cheese, heirloom beets and candied walnuts is making my mouth water! My stomach is audiably growling! I’ve never consider frying goat cheese. How does it not melt apart?
I bet it was amazing!

January 29, 2010 at 9:56 amAwww it’s really important to rest! I hope your knee feels better quickly!
And OMG cereal! Seriously! If I’m not careful I will go on a cereal binge and finish a new box right away. We never have cereal in my house, not because we don’t buy it, but because I am a BEAST and can’t help it!
That restaurant looks amazing – both of your dishes are beautiful. I used to think I lived in the center of the culinary world, being in New York City, but by reading your blog it’s so obvious to me the center of the food universe is where you are!

January 29, 2010 at 9:57 amI love scallops so much! They are hard to find at restaurants for some reason. And I agree about the cereal…can’t just stop at one bowl.

January 29, 2010 at 10:13 amI agree about rest days!! It’s so hard to make yourself take them now and again but it’s SO important to. Hope your knee feels better!! 🙂

January 29, 2010 at 10:19 amok random but i love how in that picture of your cereal the milk is all frothy and bubbly. looks so fresh & delicious!
hope your knee heals quickly <3

January 29, 2010 at 10:21 amTaking some rest and hitting the “office” is a good idea. Pain is your body’s way of saying don’t do that. Give it a chance to heal and get back on the horse…uh bike 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
January 29, 2010 at 10:22 amYou’re absolutely right…resting is an integral part of any workout plan. It gives our bodies a chance to recover and prevents mental/physical burnouts!
Have fun at “your office”!!
Karissa
January 29, 2010 at 10:25 amI said this on Carrots and Cake last week too, but cereal has a weird effect of making me want to eat the entire box too!!

January 29, 2010 at 10:26 amThose scallops look TO DIE FOR! Enjoy the sun… It’s what we call a rarity here in Cleveland! 😉

January 29, 2010 at 10:36 amThat Scallop dish looks amazing. Living in a landlocked state, it’s hard to get good scallops. yumm..now i want some!
Katy ( The Balanced Foodie)
January 29, 2010 at 10:41 amDefinitely take a break!! It’s so easy to get caught up in yoga, running, trying to do something active everyday we never think to take time to rest. Sometimes things happening(like a scraped knee, or getting sick) is God’s way of getting us to rest!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine
January 29, 2010 at 10:45 amI always order scallops at restaurants, too…your mom’s must be amazing! Ezekiel cereal is the bomb, I agree 🙂

January 29, 2010 at 11:14 amAhh, whenever I eat cereal – I, too, am a bottomless pit! I think it’s the crunchy-ness….So light and crunchy and carby, yum.
Gracie @ Girl Meets Health
January 29, 2010 at 11:20 amI have such a love/hate relationship with cereal. It is hands down one of my favorite foods, but even the most protein/fiber/flax filled cereals do not fill me up *at all.* So what’s a girl to do?! Lately I’ve been opting for oats instead :/ But there will always be a huge, bottomless pit of a place in my heart for cereal! 😛

I need to get some of this millet bread!

January 29, 2010 at 12:14 pmThat creamy polenta with scallops looks wonderful. I always wonder how restaurants make polenta so much creamier than I can make it? Maybe I don’t want to know. 😉

January 29, 2010 at 12:30 pmTried the coconut milk ice cream in choc chip cookie dough! Really good! Thanks for mentioning it! And tried the AG superfood choc PB protein bar too! How do you only eat a half a bar? I bought flax seed and hemp seed to try too!
Hope you have a great restful day! (And get a lot of writing accomplished, too!) Your dinner looks awesome! Scallops are one of my favs too!

January 29, 2010 at 5:26 pmSorry about your knee, how it gets better soon!!
That salad looks amazing, the goat cheese croquettes remind me of Paris. I had so much delicious goat cheese there and my boyfriend was willing to try it and loved it too.
Glad you found a new restaurant and even better that it’s so close by 🙂

January 29, 2010 at 6:37 pmI’m with you on the weather – I live in SF and I wish the rain would either stick around or GO already. 🙂 The cereal looks wonderful, I am also a cereal fanatic. I used to eat bowls and bowls of it. In fact, I kind of want some now. LOL!

January 29, 2010 at 10:16 pmYour new favorite restaurant’s food look amazing!! It’s funny how cold cereal goes down so quickly and so much of it at once. It’s definitely not as filling as oats!

January 30, 2010 at 8:15 amThose scallops look really good. I don’t think I would like all of that powdery stuff on my bread either.

January 30, 2010 at 8:47 pmI have the same problem with the cinnamon and the maca. You almost have to breathe through your mouth, or not at all when eating it like that. I’m away from home and missing my Maca! I just got jealous..I forgot to bring it with me 🙂
