Happy Memorial Day!
After waking up ridiculously early to drop a friend off at the airport (read: 5:45 am but I will do anything for the promise of breakfast), the boyfriend and I spent the day exploring Berkeley. I’d only been to Berkeley once before and he had never been at all. Here’s what we discovered.

May 31, 2010 at 6:57 pmOn a more positive note, if you’re ever near Oakland again, you should check out Brown Sugar Kitchen. It is one of the few places that could get me to the East Bay on a day off, it’s that good!

June 9, 2010 at 10:06 amIt seems strange that she is hiding it. But I saw a comment that gave it away…. its pretty obvious who it is, not sure why they don’t make it public on the blog. Guess its their decision tho.

May 31, 2010 at 11:17 pmTerrific hot pink top!
Love Berkeley Hills, the Rose Garden, the Gourmet Ghetto, 4th St. They have the best pizza ever at The Cheeseboard a block or so north from Chez Panisse. Weird Berkeley Factoid: Albert Einstein’s brain wound up there. After he died in 1955 a Princeton pathologist removed his brain during autopsy and was disgruntled with the university–so took it (pre any laws prohibiting) and kept it in a Tupperware container filled with formaldehyde in his basement for decades. A young reporter discovered his secret, and took him on a cross country trip to see all of his ex-wives and GFs one last time and to deliver Albert Einstein’s brain (the smartest of the 20th century) to his relative in charge of his estate in Berkeley. Very funny/true story, ‘Driving Mr. Albert. ‘http://www.bookbrowse.com/reviews/index.cfm/book_number/581/Driving-Mr-Albert

June 1, 2010 at 5:43 amoh wow, you were at indian rock! i spent many of my adolescent years there with friends!! raised in berkeley for most of my life, i just recently moved out of state, but you’re making me miss it! the house that i grew up in is just right around the corner from the rock. i’m so glad that you got to experience berkeley, it really is a must do if you’re in california ~ bay area. since i know you’re love of mexican food, check out “cancun” – they grow their own organic vegetables on their own farm ~ BEST burritos, and they have the most awesome pineapple salsa for your chips. also check out “picante” ~ another mexican joint around 4th street. berkeley is really, imo, the best place for food heaven! oh and also check out “berkeley bow” ~ it was converted into a huge grocery store with tons of the best organic produce, out of what was once a bowling alley. MISS my hometown! 🙁

June 1, 2010 at 6:05 amI spent last summer taking classes at Berkeley and exploring the city. Do you like Ethiopian food?! If yes or if you haven’t tried it, there is incredible Ethiopian food available in Berkeley, and it’s hard to find it elsewhere in the Bay Area! (There is one good place on Geary Street and one good place in San Jose but Berkeley and South Bay is totally the Ethiopian food mecca…)
