Breakfast

That Pain In My Head

Good Morning!

Ugh, not feeling good at all this morning. I’ve discussed this before with y’all but I get horrible chronic migraines…I’ve been getting them since I was really young and though today I definitely don’t get them as frequently as I used to (sometimes in college I would get one or two a WEEK), when they hit, they hit hard. I could feel one coming on last night when I was trying to fall asleep and then this morning it sort of feels like someone is stabbing me behind the eye. Awesome. Really.

Anyways, trying not to focus on it. I did have a wonderful breakfast!

IMG_5590
I toasted a thick slice of banana bread and slathered it with almond butter and jam and then had a half cup of yogurt with agave and a grapefruit on the side. I take back what I said yesterday about the banana bread….toasted, it is AMAZING!

I have another very special giveaway! I LOVE the Avocate line (read my initial review from last July here) and use these products all the time. Currently I have the body polish in my shower (great for exfoliating your face!) and the lotion on my bedside table. Sadly I’m out of the skin glow and the eye cream but I need to remedy that soon… These products are great for anyone with sensitive skin and have worked wonders for me. Plus, who doesn’t love a good avocado on their face? Really now.

For this giveaway, I will be raffling off a complete set of their organic products, valued at about $80. Like my previous giveaways, 100% of donations go to helping further cancer research and help me meet my goal of raising $5,000 for the Echelon Gran Fondo in May!
Y’all probably know the drill by now…..:)

***

I’m off to put an ice pack on my head then go work at the yoga studio for a few hours. Have a great day!

Ahh, feel better Jenna. I get migraines too. I actually just got one on Saturday night when I was out with some girlfriend’s and I had to leave dinner early. I had to take the subway (i’m in NY) and I thought I was going to be sick. It sounds too simple, but the only thing that truly works for me is Excedrin and a very hot shower in the dark, followed by a heating pad on my head. For some reason heat works way better than cold for me. I’ve tried prescriptions but the Excedrin works way better! I’m sure you’ve tried it all if you’ve been suffering for so long, but maybe the heat will work for you as well.

Aw, sorry you have a migraine. I’m surprised you made such a nice breakfast. When mine hit I can’t even open my eyes enough to find the kitchen. (I get auras, though, which make seeing kind of hard.) I hope yours goes away quickly. For prevention, a combination of magnesium, riboflavin, and feverfew are supposed to really help. I’ve never tried it since mine aren’t chronic. But this book I read, “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Migraines: The Breakthrough Program That Can Help End Your Pain” by Alexander Mauskop and Barry Fox, talks all about it, in case you’re interested.

Oh no! I hope the migraine subsides. I get them fairly often (some last a day, but once every couple of months I get one that lasts three or four days) and they are SO draining. The only thing that works for mine is sumatriptan (Imitrex) as soon as I feel it coming on, and it nips it in the bud most of the time as long as I take it before it gets bad….

Eat well and get plenty of rest today!

You are such a migraine trooper! I get them as well and it’s the only time I turn into the biggest baby! I immediately go home, pop pills (which I normally never do) and go to sleep. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, I go right home!

Thankfully I don’t get them nearly as much as I used to. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or not but they stopped being so frequent when I turned vegetarian. But, also, I started taking better care of myself around that time as well so it’s hard to pinpoint.

    Hope you feel better!

      Corinne,

I used to be on prescription migraine meds but they really made me feel awful so I stopped all of that and now when one hits I just take 2 excedrin migraine, 1 feverfew (an herb that helps constricted blood vessels) and use ice. It really works a whole lot better than the Rx!

  • Lauren
    March 30, 2010 at 10:24 am

    Hi Jenna!
Often times migraines can be linked to sub-optimal magenisum levels. You may want to look into this yourself and think about taking a magnesium supplement. Low magnesium has many other symptoms you may come across when researching that you have also experienced, but never really thought were that serious. My whole family suffers from low magnesium, despite our healthy vegetarian diet, and we all take a magnesium supplement. My aunt used to get terrible migraines where she’d be sick, and now she doesn’t anymore. Humans Calcium: Magnesium ratio should be 2:1, however, many foods such as dairy have ratios up to 26:1, which can really throw off the balance. It’s definitely something that is worth looking into since you’ve suffered for so many years! Also, hydration is key- and not just water. You should try drinking some diluted gatorade- always very helpful, to give you some of the necessary electrolytes, without the full amount of sugar.

    Take care,

    Lauren

    Hey!

Migraine sufferer over here!!! I started getting them about 5 years ago when I was in college and I thought my life was over. I had about 1-2 per week and I felt like my quaility of life was severely decreased. I finally did some research and found a fantastic neurologist that specializes in migraine treatment. After experimenting with a few medications I found two that work wonders. Now I get about 1 per month (if that lately). Stop by my blog if you ever want to talk about what you can do when you have one or the medications that work for me. Sadly I have a lot of experience in this area!

Hi Jenna! I hope by now your feeling much better. I just recently started taking an herbal product for migraines (Migrelief). It contains riboflavin, magnesium and feverfew which others have mentioned here. It may be too early to tell if it is working for me since they say it takes a few weeks to kick in, but so far so good. I figured they were worth a shot before I went with 2 prescribed meds by a neurologist.

  • Emily Beth
    March 31, 2010 at 5:28 am

Jenna- Have you gotten an MRI? I’m not trying to be sensational…it’s just that this hits VERY close to home. 3 weeks ago my best friend went blind. He had been having migraines similar to yours for years and the doctors never figured out what it was. Then, his eyesight went and we was sent to an ophthalmologist who determined his optic nerve had been fried. They sent him to the hospital immediately where an MRI showed a grapefruit-sized tumor in his brain. It was removed and turns out he has Stage IV brain cancer…and will never regain his vision. I say this not to scare you (lots of people get migraines) but because when I hear that people are having these types of headaches now I feel compelled to encourage getting MRI’s. Get yourself checked out, girl!
