the things she carried

…somewhere in the middle of the country, a few thousand miles from home. My bag is heavy with books, laptops, cameras and a very special loaf of freshly baked chocolate bread (from Back in the Day!). The bread is rich and not too sweet…studded with melting nuggets of creamy dark chocolate and sprinkled with crunchy turbinado sugar.

I have big plans for this bread involving a mixture of eggs, vanilla and milk, a screaming hot skillet and a drizzle of pure maple syrup. I’m imagining the chocolate chunks will melt deliciously, and there may be a very necessary need for freshly caramelized bananas on top.

When my masterpiece is done, I’m imagining I’ll pour a strong cup of french press coffee and eat forkful after forkful, in a full on chocolate coma. After, I’ll run my finger down the plate, getting the last bit of maple syrup and smear of chocolate before starting my morning.

….but, I can only imagine.

There’s about a 67.8% chance this bread will never see San Francisco.

It’s gonna be a long flight.

freshly caramelized bananas on top of ANYTHING sounds awesome…and so does the bread.

And yes, that’s a very long plane ride. If the bread were riding shotgun with me, there’s no way it would make it home to CA b/c the inflight movie just wouldn’t hold my attention like that bread would 🙂
