Dinner

Worth The Wait

Mmmmmmm dinner was soooo delicious tonight!!

We didn’t end up getting to the restaurant until around 8:45 (I was getting so hungry at home that I had a spoonful of each hummus and peanut butter to tide me over) and we sat at the bar for a little while until our table was ready. I ordered a glass of red zin and nursed it the entire night. It was really yummy and I’m proud of myself for walking out only having one glass of wine.

At the bar they had caramel corn to snack on!!! This is bad for hungry girls waiting for their dinner like me. I had a few pieces…

When we sat down, Peggy and I immediately ordered one of the amazing sounding soft pretzels. They weren’t as large as I thought (maybe half the size of ones at the baseball games) but they were hot from the oven and covered with sea salt. The pretzel was served with a whole grain dijon mustard sauce as well as the most amazing cheese sauce ever: a taleggio “fondue”. Ryan and I split one of the pretzels before we ordered dinner…

For my meal I ordered a grilled wild alaskan salmon over a vegetable panzanella salad. It was nothing short of amazing. The salmon was even better than Flemings and that says a lot! It was crispy and delicious with a rare center. And the salad was yummy with chopped veggies and bits of grilled french bread croutons. I ate about 3/4 of the salmon, all my salad and most of Peggy’s salad (she ordered the salmon as well).

Ryan ordered these delicious lobster tacos! Now THIS is what I was expecting today at lunch! I had a bite and it was fantastic.

We didn’t order dessert but the menu looked very interesting. I feel full now but definitely not stuffed. It was a great meal with great friends—and so much fun to catch up with Peggy! We were inseparable in college and have remained very close over the past four years.

Here’s a picture of Ryan and I. Ryan was “posing” with the amazing cheese sauce he poured all over his lobster tacos (it was really for the soft pretzels but his motto is “cheese makes everything better”)

And a picture I snagged of Ryan taking a nap this afternoon with Dexter stalking his mouse…..I think this might be my favorite picture ever.

We are off to bed now! We are going to try to wake up early and head over to the Wide World of Sports to go watch the Bucs practice!

Ryan is so right – cheese does make everything SO MUCH better!! I am a total cheese addict – I had the world’s best most cheesy sandwich for lunch yesterday (3 different types) – all grilled and gooey… so, so bad for me! Those fish tacos look amazing – I’ve never tried them but so going to give them a try. Has anyone got any good recipes?

Your dinner sounds awesome! And that pic is so cute!

Jenna, I was wondering about your eating schedule and how much you eat. Do you think it is important to have a small snack every couple of hours even if you aren’t hungry? I have read you say that you seem to just get hungry every three hours. I tend to not get hungry for about 4 to 5 hours and wonder if I should be having a small snack in between there or if maybe even I should be eating smaller meals. Lately, I have been trying to eat until “not hungry” instead of “full” and I do notice that I get hungrier faster. What do you think?

    C,

I think it totally depends on your metabolism. If you feel you can go 4-5 hours without eating and honestly don’t get hungry, then I would suggest eating a small meal every four hours. It’s a proven fact that eating 5-6 small meals a day rather than 3 large meals a day is not only better for our digestion, but also for our metabolism! And, people who do this, are far more likely to actually consume less calories overall than people that eat 3 square meals. Listen to your body though, if you are full, don’t eat. But, it might be beneficial to decrease your portion size so you ARE hungry every three hours or so. Eating every four hours is fine…but I wouldn’t recommend going longer than five hours without eating. Our bodies then go into “starvation mode” and start looking to other things to eat, such as our muscles!

Thanks for the response, Jenna. I am working really hard on finding out the right way for my body and your blog has lots of great little tid bits that are helping me along the way!
