THIS just totally made my whole day:

Might not look like a lot, but this morning when I left my tiny kitchen was a watery, smelly MESS! The sink was full of dirty dishes and water and even though I knew the plumber was taking care of everything, I was not looking forward to coming home and dealing with the mess leftover. But then, behold! My landlord actually washed all my dishes for me, cleaned the whole kitchen and took out my garbage!!!!!! The place was spotless when I got home tonight and I almost cried. Thank youuuu!
So, to back up a bit, this afternoon I snacked on my favorite bar while at the studio—

And then took a 90 minute power class at 6:00. Okay, so some days you are on and some days you are off and tonight I was totally 100% OFF like a light. I felt incredibly weak during the whole class, sweat like it was going out of style and couldn’t focus to save my life. As frustrating as that was, I know that classes like that are the ones that cause you the most growth because they are the most humbling. I surrendered myself into child’s pose many a time during class and at the end, was literally shaking in sweat.
I was looking forward to this when I got home:

Never tried these before and had heard great things. I heated one up real quick and put it atop a big salad with 2 spoonfuls of hummus, sriracha and some kabocha squash:

The verdict? FREAKIN AMAZING! Oh man, were these ever good. Between these and my clean kitchen, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I loved the flavor and texture of these….so good. You must try them stat.
Dessert was a pear:

To be honest, I wasn’t even really hungry but I was craving this pear like it was nobody’s business….I think because I was thirsty after sweating out like 12 lbs in water during class tonight. It tasted delicious to me!
Goodnight!

January 20, 2010 at 9:13 pmYou deserve such a lovely end to your day!

January 20, 2010 at 9:30 pmYour landlord just did more housework than my husband’s done in six years of marriage. Congratu-frickin-lations. 😉

January 20, 2010 at 9:36 pmAh yes! Those are awesome! My husband and I are big fans of Quorn! Glad you got your sink fixed up — sounds like we had similar evenings. 🙂

January 20, 2010 at 9:38 pmI am glad you got such a nice surprise when you got home 🙂 Thats one the things I love about yoga, it is never the same experiences and it constantly reminds you that you always have room for improvement. Some days I have amazing classes where I feel so strong and the next day I can just be off and struggle to hold even my fav postures.

January 20, 2010 at 9:41 pmSounds like a wonderful landlord! At least that part of the day went better than planned 🙂

January 20, 2010 at 9:42 pmWhat a great landlord! A clean kitchen is the best gift I could ever get.
Samantha
January 20, 2010 at 9:46 pmKudos for sticking it out through class. It’s encouraging for those of us not nearly as advanced in our practice to see that even the best have their off moments.
I’ve been wanting to try the quorns but no one carries them on island. Your salad looks sooo yummy!

January 20, 2010 at 10:13 pmWhat a nice landlord you have! My roomies cleaned the kitchen tonight so I came home to a clean kitch too 🙂 Your next yoga sesh will be that much better girl!

January 20, 2010 at 10:55 pmWow, what awesome landlords you have. I couldn’t help but notice that we have the same bamboo cutting board : )

January 20, 2010 at 11:37 pmYou have the greatest landlord in the world! I have a problem getting a minor trash schedule from mine! I know what you mean about being off/on for yoga. There are some days that I am so tight that I’m falling all over the place and I can’t keep my balance. Those classes are very humbling indeed!

January 21, 2010 at 2:08 amWow! You have an amazing landlord! That was such a nice thing to do!

January 21, 2010 at 2:53 amWow…what a nice landlord!
I know what you mean about not being 100% on during exercise sometimes! I hate when that happens but I always feel so good afterwards….that I stuck with it and finished even though I didn’t feel like it! Most people would have just thrown in the towel! Way to go…..

January 21, 2010 at 3:26 amWhat a wonderful landlord! That’s so nice! I woke up this morning to find the dish rack empty! That never happens! I guess my roommate took not of my frantic cleaning last night!

January 21, 2010 at 3:31 amYou’ve got a great landlord! I don’t think even the nicest landlord would do that in NYC, haha. Congrats!
I totally hear you on the yoga front. If the force isn’t with you, the force isn’t with you. While it’s great to explore your edges in practice, it’s also great to accept your body’s limitations at times and just release the force. I think the humility that arises from that does cause the most growth.
I need to pick up some quorn cutlets. Stat.

January 21, 2010 at 4:09 amI know what you mean, sometimes you are just not feeling it! No matter what kind of workout it is. We really can’t expect to be on 100% all of the time, that is just plain unrealistic. Don’t worry, you’ll be back in top shape tomorrow.
I’ve seen these before and I have been so tempted to buy them. Now I have a reason!!! Can’t wait to try.
Hope you have a wonderful day hun!

January 21, 2010 at 4:17 amI love fruit after a sweaty workout. It’s always so refreshing! 😀
Rachel
January 21, 2010 at 4:32 amI felt like that during a yoga podcast a couple nights ago.. I was falling out of every pose and getting so frustrated. but it’s true that’s when you can grow more in your practice and use more of the mental side of yoga to stay calm and relaxed and do what we need to do. Glad everything worked out with your sink 🙂

January 21, 2010 at 4:37 amWe definitely all have days like that, when any kind of exercise kicks your butt way more than normal! But those really are the times that help you grow–mentally and physically.

January 21, 2010 at 4:46 amWhew, you must be relieved to have the plumbing issues sorted!
And I always crave a piece of juicy fruit after dinner, even if I’m not very hungry. At least it’s a healthy craving. 🙂

January 21, 2010 at 4:48 amyay for your landlord being great! I am sure you have mentioned this before, but where do you get all of your frozen meals? They always look WAY better than anything they have at my grocery store….

January 21, 2010 at 4:51 amGreat that you got your place sorted out.
How many hours do you have to devote to the studio for practice? Is it busy or can you work on your book?

January 21, 2010 at 4:55 amwow your landlord seems super nice! Also a pear does sounds really good, while at the store today I might just have to pick one up.

January 21, 2010 at 4:59 amTonight was the first night that I stopped a full on binge and the insurmountable regret after eating WAY too much ice cream w/ yoga.
I put on a 1 hr flow class and sweat, cried, and kept going. I wanted to quit, but the shake/flow/strength I got from it is nothing like I’ve ever felt before.
It was the best hour I’ve had all day.

January 21, 2010 at 5:31 amI really liked hearing about your humbling experience, I get a little nervous before every yoga class I go to. I know it’s going to be a challenge and I get scared to even try which I know is not good but I manage to talk myself out of one to many classes. I know you’re more advanced then I am but it’s still helpful to know that no matter what level you are at you may find yourself in child’s pose often. I’m sorry your class as difficult, but it’s helped encourage me to head over to yoga again soon.
Danielle
January 21, 2010 at 5:34 amHate and LOVE practices like that! Where within the first 5 minute its like, uh…oh…. maybe I should have NOT come tonight! But you are right, they humble you and make you stronger emotionally and physically.
You are very fortunate to have such a great landlord!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen)
January 21, 2010 at 6:02 amWell, that was a nice end to the day! Nothing like coming home to a clean kitchen! I know what you mean about just being off and I completely agree that you grow more and improve more when your body has to work at it more! I think that is why I do so well working out early in the morning. I crave fruit all the time just for the freshness. I am an apple girl though!

totally know what you mean by being off in yoga. for all the days when it seems like you are just in the groove, there is bound to be a day when you just arent. frustrating….yes, but it makes you (or at least me) appreciate the “on” days so much more!

January 21, 2010 at 7:11 amWow! Your landlord is absolutely amazing! Seriously!!!!!!
I know what you mean by being OFF during a workout. Sometimes it’s such a struggle to make it through a class or workout that you completely effortlessly just days prior. It can be so frustrating, but like you said, you can certainly grow from the humbling experience. That is a great way to look at it!

January 21, 2010 at 8:48 amI’m totally with you on the yoga class. I feel the same way, and love your attitude. I tend to get frustrated and not enjoy it as much, and am now going to try a lot harder to look at it as an opportunity for growth. The same thing happens on the climbing wall, so I can use it in both places 🙂
