Give Me Ice Cream, and Make it Real.

Hey everyone!

Wow, I’ve felt so lazy all day! I think now that I’m working all the time I get bored when I have a day off! I always have the need/desire to be productive and like to stay busy. Tomorrow is another day! After lunch I headed over to the gym since it closes at 5:00 on Sundays. Here’s what I did:

few minutes on treadmill to warm up

2 sets of overhead triceps extensions—50 lbs, 15 reps

2 sets of pushups–10 reps

2 sets of seated row—50 lbs, 15 reps

2 sets of shoulder press—10 lbs, 15 reps

2 sets of lat raises—5 lbs, 15 reps

2 sets of hammer curls—10 lbs, 15 reps

2 sets of “21s” with 20 lb dumbell

3 sets of lunges, 20 reps

LOTS of calf stretching!

2 sets of bicycle crunches—20 reps

2 sets of inverse crunches—20 reps

2 sets of crunches on the ball—20 reps

total time = around 30 minutes or so

After the gym, I snacked on this bar while I ran errands:

and some grapes when I got home:

I relaxed for awhile, read some blogs and hung around the house and then I got to work researching some new cookie recipes that I want to try out this week at work. I found some recipes for pumpkin whoopie pies and Pan de Meurtos (Day of the Dead bread—its a sweet, traditional yeast bread with anise seed and orange zest) that I hope Adam lets me bake! I also “test baked” a batch of Eat, Drink and Be Vegan’s chocolate peanut butter cookies so I could bring one in tomorrow morning and let Adam try it to see if we could put them on the cookie menu. I guess I can’t even go a whole day without baking! haha!

And for dinner I made breakfast. Sunday nights just scream for breakfast I feel. Today at Church they were giving out loaves of bread and when I cut into it this afternoon, lo and behold, it was as hard as a rock. So, I decided to make french toast and have some organic (nitrate-free) turkey bacon on the side.

Here’s my “recipe”:

(to serve 1)

2 slices thick cut bread, homemade if possible

3 egg whites

splash of soymilk

lots of cinnamon

I whisked together the egg whites and soymilk, added the cinnamon and let the bone-dry bread soak up all the liquid. I cooked the slices on the griddle until both sides of each slice were golden and then I drizzled on 2 tbsp of pure maple syrup. A perfect dinner for Sunday.

And then………….don’t get mad, but I went out for an ice cream cone and forgot my camera. Here’s what happened—I NEEDED an ice cream cone. And when I say ice cream I do not mean frozen yogurt or light ice cream or sugar free yogurt or anything of that nature (bleh!). Ice cream is ice cream and studies have shown that people that consume a small amount of REAL ice cream once in awhile rather than froyo all the time not only are thinner but also consume less calories on a whole. Just food for thought. Anyways, tonight was just one of those nights I guess! So I went to Abbotts Frozen Custard, of which I have a crazy love affair with. My love for Abbotts started in Vero when I was in high school and it was brand new and “all the rage” (I’m from a small town, yall).

Anyways, Abbotts is the most amazing ice cream I’ve ever consumed (and I love that they have a drive through! haha) and tonight they had PUMPKIN! It was calling my name so I got a kiddie cone and when I searched for my camera in my purse, discovered that it was at home on my bed. I briefly debated holding my ice cream cone in one hand and the steering wheel in the other all the way home so I could take a picture before I devoured it but…….well, I just couldn’t do it. I love yall and I love the blog, but I don’t have that kind of will power! It was gone in about 2 seconds flat. I’m sure I’ll be back next week sometime for another so yall can see it in all its glory then.

I’m about to jump in a bubble bath and read The Red Tent. I borrowed it from Betty and love it so far! Tomorrow I’ll be up and at ’em bright and early again…

Have a great night!

I think we can forgive you for forgetting the camera 😉 But I do think it would have been hilarious if you had driven all the way home without eating the ice cream just for a picture. I could never even dream of trying to attempt that.

A bubble bath sounds amazing. I am SO tempted by that right now. I could always study in the bath… hmm…

Breakfast for dinner seems like the perfect Sunday dinner after a “lazy” day. And I admire your devotion to the blog, debating whether or not to eat the ice cream without a pic! I would have loved to see a picture of this delicious sounding pumpkin ice cream, but I don’t blame you for eating it right then and there!

I really liked the Red Tent. There were parts where I felt like I was reading a Harlequin Romance novel (I guess!). My favorite section was the first but it is good on the whole. I’ve never had custard but just had gelato for the first time in NYC this summer. I LOVED it. The texture was great. My day off is tomorrow and I’m planning on baking something then. Hope your day off got you refreshed for the week ahead!

It’s way better to have a little of the real thing than a lot of something “light”. No need to justify your ice cream! Have fun at work tomorrow 🙂

I totally agree with your theory to just give in to real ice cream when absolutely necessary. I used to consume a ridiculous amount of froyo back in the day, just trying to tame my ice cream cravings. Nowadays, I give in and it tides me over for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

    Coming out of ‘lurk’dom…
I’m sure you’ll devour The Red Tent quickly, great book.
You should set up a Eat, Live, Run reader dinner in Chicago when you’re in town! 3 course dessert tasting at Tru (Gale Gand is pastry chef). It’s an amazing dining experience and the dessert seating is only $25. Just a thought.

Pumpkin custard sounds devine, but I so disagree about “real ice-cream.” Frozen yogurt is my favorite by far – have you tried the kind that is a tangy Greek yogurt but frozen style? I think you’d probably love it.

I LOVE pumpkin ice cream! I made it for the first time this year…but I immediately fell in love with it! I don’t blame you for eating it all before you got home! I think I would have done the same thing!

Pumpkin ice cream sounds fab. I agree that ice cream needs to be real otherwise I just end up eating a lot of substitutes instead of just a small amount of the real thing.

I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY AGREE with the regular ice-cream thing. FroYo just doesn’t cut it most of the time… it’s like getting a 2-minute massage. It only leaves you wanting more!! =)
