Breakfast/ Dessert/ Dinner/ Lunch

Finally, Finally

LONGEST DAY EVER.

Was yesterday. Remember me hoping I would get to Atlanta in time so I couldn’t miss my connecting flight to San Francisco? Well that was a bust.

My flight was delayed coming out of Charleston and after SPRINTING through the Atlanta airport (backpack opened, contents spilled everywhere in the terminal all over the floor–me crying and calling my mom), I still missed my flight. I ended up catching a later flight to San Francisco which was only delayed further and finally got back around 10:15, which felt like 12:15 to me. You can only guess my exhaustion. However, all was made right when after walking off the plane and to baggage claim I ran right into the boyfriend, who had taken a bus all the way from Santa Rosa to surprise me and drive me home since at that point I was waaaay too exhausted to be behind the wheel and drive an hour. Whewwwwwwww 🙂

Thank goodness I packed a turkey sandwich from Christie’s house yesterday morning because there was zero food in the Charleston airport.

IMG_6082
This was turkey, pumpkin butter and spinach on whole wheat. I also had a string cheese and a banana.
Munched on a glo bar in ATL:

And, even though I feel a sense of hatred towards the atlanta airport, I was pleasantly surprised by their food options. I had a greek salad with a side of hummus for dinner from Nature’s Bistro—

IMG_6084
It was actually really, really good! The hummus was awesome!
I also had a coconut larabar and some biscoff cookies on my almost 6 hour flight. We had to go 400 miles out of the way to avoid storms and that’s why we were delayed for 2 hours. I don’t mean to complain but it was a major headache!
However, alls well that ends well. I finally made it back to Sonoma at around 11:30 and crashed into bed. This morning had a bowl of oats with cinnamon, almond butter, agave and greek yogurt:

I have a pretty lengthy to-do list. Must go to the grocery store!!!!!!
Good to be back but I do miss those 80 degree days…. 😉

    all the food looks great.

i totally admire u for writing.
i have some ideas…but i waste all my time, and my mind is too “fritzed” to concentrate…i am a basket case now cause i am looking for a job and a place to live in panic…looks like any writing dreams are going to have to be held off for a long long while…too stressed to think on it!
if the inspiration and joy are sucked out of it, i cannot do it anyway. kudos to u for finding a calm mind to do what u do.

eeck what a crazy stressful day. I love traveling, but more so the ‘being there’ part than the actually ‘getting there’ mess. Did you ever see the TV show ‘Savannah’? I watched it when I was a kid on the WB and since then I’ve always had such an interest in that part of the country and want to visit. Your pictures over the last few days only enhanced that want! Hope the weather warms up!

  • Marcia
    April 8, 2010 at 1:02 pm

Wait, boyfriend? I’m behind the times. That’s very sweet though.

I remember picking up my hubby (we were living separate – cross country for 2 years) for one trip. I lived in DC, and he flew into Baltimore (about 45min -1 hr drive) late at night. It was very foggy that night. I had had a previous really scary driving-in-the-fog experience, so I was…tense.

And there I was, 10:30 pm, waiting outside the terminal with a bunch of other schmoes, when the announcement came on: “Those of you waiting for Continental flight XXX from LAX, because of fog that flight was re-routed to National. We will be bussing the passengers here.”

I live a mile from National. Hmmm…he wouldn’t get on the bus, would he? So, this being pre-cell phones, a half an hour of me calling my best friend Lloyd, and him thinking to call my best friend Lloyd, and then said best friend calling me back on the white courtesy phone, we all figured out that no, he wasn’t going to get on the bus.

45 mins later I was picking him up at National…ah, the memories.

What a great guy! I’m stuck @ home dogsitting while my BF is off to Hilton Head – TWICE in three weeks!
Trust me, flying around thunderstorms is WAY better than the alternative. I’d rather have a delay any day – even though it IS a pain… We were delayed in Frankfurt, Germany due to mechanical problems, and would’ve missed our connecting flight in DC if it hadn’t also been delayed – I was a little crabby going through customs trying to make sure that we made the flight (only to find out that it wasn’t even there yet!).
