I have a FUN announcement that I think yall will love, but first let’s do the traditional daily recaperoo!
Actually…..let’s start with last night. I got super snacky while watching the debate (I stayed up for the entire thing, aren’t yall proud?!….it was worth it!) so I had some dry H2H and a small cup of hot cocoa made with silk light vanilla.
I made the cocoa with this interesting mix that I found in the pantry. Trader Joes?! Who knows where that came from because we don’t have a Trader Joes anywhere near us! It was really good though and I’m glad I found something sweet because my sweet tooth was seriously calling!!
And then fast track to this morning~~
I got up (was SUPER tired!) at around 6:00, pushed the coffee machine on with my eyes still shut, and made breakie. I threw together some quick and fast oatmeal with 2 packets of Optimum Power + 1/2 scoop vanilla protein and a banana.
I’m finding that as I need to be on my feet and go-go-go ALL day long, a hearty protein packed breakfast really helps!
Here’s my packed lunch du jour:
A hummus and turkey sammie (2 tbsp hummus, 2 oz turkey) on whole wheat along with grapes, carrots, a yogurt and a protein bar.
Around 9:30 I took a yogurt break while my rolls were bakin’ and I also dug into the secret almond stash —I think I had about 6 almonds? I just grabbed a few as I worked! Adam thinks its funny I eat “healthy” snacks ALL day like yogurt, protein bars and almonds. 🙂
He was gone for about an hour this afternoon (I was the ONLY one in the kitchen!) and when he came back he brought me a vitamin water. So here’s a picture of my daily liquids—COFFEE, water and vitamin water! Being the ONLY girl in the kitchen, I got the pink and he got the yellow! 🙂
Around noon, I took a lunch break and sat outside with my lunchbox. I had my delicious sammie with carrots and grapes while chatting on the phone with the boy.
I got off work around 3:15 and came home with intentions of working out later. Well….that sort of fell apart. I’m tired and needed a rest day so instead of working out, I cut myself a nice slice of the cranberry walnut orange bread I made this morning (I took half a loaf home with me) and called it a day. Goodness gracious, this bread is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!! Totally NOT healthy with butter and white flour but I’m thinking of a way to adapt it to include whole grains and less saturated fat. I’ll let yall know what I come up with and then I can share my adapted recipe with you! The splurge version was pretty out of this world though!
And now for my work-day recap! I was SO tired going in this morning. But…after a cup of joe and getting straight to work on my pumpernickel rolls (panning, proofing and baking them), I woke right up. These came out perfect this morning. Definitely my best batch yet!
And then I made the cranberry bread—-
And put together some pizza dough, which we then froze for later.
After lunch I tried a big bite of the cranberry bread and fell in love:
And since there were no cookies to bake off today and I was so fast getting my morning bread production done, I got to play a little bit and help Adam with his fancy shmancy chocolates! I glazed, cut and assembled these Opera Cake petit fours—
And rolled truffles (sprinkled with toasted crushed pistachios!):
I took so many little bites of sweet things today! Trimmings of the Opera Cake…a tasting of the fluffy icing Adam made for the wedding cake he is doing for tomorrow….cranberry bread….but it was all so good!!! I feel like if I pack healthy meals and eat healthy 90% of the time, I surely have a 10% allotted pastry spot! 😉
I’m on my own for the next week. Betty and Ted are out of town and I’m “house-sitting”! I guess I’ll have to start cooking again! haha 🙂 Tonight I had an early dinner of a wedge of leftover quiche. SO tasty! Especially with the super ripe melon!
I had seconds!
Oh, and here’s where I work!
Let’s just say its a place where for HAPPY HOUR, members get Opera Cake petit fours and truffles. How crazy is that?! Oh well, if you can’t join the next best thing is to be an employee!
I refuse to let myself comprehend that’s Friday night and I have to be at work tomorrow morning at 7 am. No Friday night for me! I plan to go bed early and get a good nights sleep. Tomorrow is another work day + kitchen deep clean (gahh).

October 3, 2008 at 11:16 pmI recommend going to a yoga class FIRST if you have never done yoga before just so you can see how the postures are correctly done. After that, you can start to practice on your own!

October 4, 2008 at 12:02 pmWhoops sorry, my comment posted before I wanted it to. Anyway! I was saying I’ve been seeing the vitamin waters *everywhere lately. It’s like some sudden phenomenon in bottled drinks. I really want to try one now.
10% allotted pastry eating is perfect. I don’t know how you COULDN’T sample with all of those amazing goodies to try.
The yoga downloads thing is awesome!

October 4, 2008 at 2:58 pmI am so glad you are willing to give in and eat some white flour/butter stuff once in a while, it looks so delicious! I’d really like to improve my balance in the health/not healthy arena. I try to eat healthy all the time, and when I decide to eat something “not healthy” I usually go overboard…you’re a good role model!
Jo
October 4, 2008 at 3:06 pmHey Jenna that cranberry bread looks AMAZING! Are you able to share the recipe?

October 4, 2008 at 6:03 pmI think all the extra exercise you’re getting at work will burn off your 10% pastry allotment anyway.
jenna
October 4, 2008 at 10:02 pmJo,
the bread IS amazing! I cannot share this particular recipe since it is copyrighted for my place of employment, but when I change the recipe (aka healthify it), I can share that!
emily
October 4, 2008 at 10:21 pmI agree on the end pieces, as a child I would beg my mother to make lemon bread and then only eat the ends!
