Breakfast/ Dinner

Great Meal, Good Fun, Sleepy Girl

Hey yall!

Well last night was just as I expected—-we didn’t eat until 8:45 and didn’t get home until 11:00. That combo, along with waking up at 5:30 and working a full day already, made Jenna a veeery sleepy girl! I promptly passed out as soon as we got home, so please forgive me for the late post!

The Columbia was GREAT though (as usual)! This is one of our very favorite places and we love to go there for special occasions. I had my college graduation dinner there and we have celebrated various birthdays there as well. Last night we celebrated seeing each other again after a month so there was definitely a need to celebrate! 🙂

As soon as we got there we ordered our “signature”—–a pitcher of mojitos!

They.were.so.good. And I probably drank them way too fast because we didn’t get food for the next thirty minutes and I was so hungry I just kept sucking down mojito at rapid pace. That’s a big stalk of sugar cane in my drink!

We finally got some apps—my favorite, the Queso Fundido:

And prawns in “1905 sauce”:

Oh my goodness, the prawns were out of this world!!!!! We each had two of them dipped in sauce and split the cheesy/tomato sauce as well. I wasn’t a fan of the bread it was served with (it was a little hard) so I ate the majority of the “dip” with my fork. It was really yummy!

I also got my favorite thing in the entire world: Cuban Black Bean Soup!

img_3012.JPG

This soup is 100% vegetarian and is served atop a bed of fluffy white rice. It’s pretty much the most amazing thing ever, especially when you dump copious amounts of hot sauce on it 😉

For my entree, I got the 1905 Salad. I LOVE this salad! I crave this salad! It’s just soooooooo good:

img_3017.JPG

It’s so old fashioned but I love it all the same! They make it for you right at the table and dump tons of little spanish olives in it, sliced swiss cheese, ham, tomatoes and their “secret” 1905 salad dressing. I order this along with the Cuban Black Bean Soup every single time I have ever eaten there. I also had 1 1/2 of Ryan’s fried plantains along with his yuca (a starchy veggie like a potato).

Ryan got HIS favorite dish ever: the pork. It comes shredded with rice and beans and plantains. I had a bite and it was pretty good. The funny thing was that he didn’t finish it and wanted to take the rest home so the guy went and boxed it up for him. But then the server came back and apologized because he set down Ryan’s boxed leftovers and turned his back for a moment—-when he looked back, another server had accidentally taken Ryan’s leftovers to the wrong table! SO, they gave Ryan an entire new pork dinner to take home with him!

We were seated at the table directly next to the stage where the dancers were!

Oh, and I also ate pleeeeenty of this hot cuban bread:

And here I am at the end of the meal when all the mojitos were gone:

Yes, I like to gnaw on the sugar cane. That’s when we knew it was time to go home.

And then I slept until 9 am!!!!!!!!!!! Oh it felt so good. Usually by 9 I’m already pulling out all the bread I’ve baked all morning. It felt so wonderful to be back in the big comfy bed, room pitch black and the ac blasting. Love it.

And I just woke up and ate a bowl of Quaker Oatmeal Squares with skim milk and a naner:

Today is the day I have been most excited for! Ryan and I are going to relax all day and then go to my parent’s house later this afternoon for dinner and to watch the World Series. Today is the infamous Florida/Kentucky football game, which is always fun in our house since my dad (and entire family on his side) went to Kentucky and RYAN, obviously, went to Florida. There’s a huge rivalry and some trash talking involved in this…..but its always good fun. 😉

Have a fabulous Saturday and I’ll be back after lunch!

    Hey Jenna!
Your hair looks really pretty. Do you blow dry it with a round brush or use a curling iron?

    Sara,

Thank you!! I ALWAYS use a round brush. If I didn’t, my hair would be so flat it would stick to my neck.

I can’t eat at the Columbia. A while ago i was there when they were making the famous salad. They dropped it on the floor(the entire thing) put it back and then served it. Yuck

You’re sweet. My hair takes 10 minutes….I just blow it dry with a round brush. I’m in the process of growing it out and its very frustrating!!!
