Woke up at 5:00 this morning because my body still feels like its on the east coast. NOT COOL! I was going to try to wait to eat breakfast until normal time (7-ish) but around 5:45 I was starving so I just said what the heck, here we go
Overnight oats with 1/3 c oats, 1 T chia seeds, 1/2 c almond milk, 1/2 c yogurt, banana, blueberries, almond butter, cinnamon and agave! mmmmm
In other news, I cannot walk. I AM SO SORE!!! I seriously haven’t been this sore in many, many moons…but I also haven’t done that many lunges in a veryyyy long time. Honestly, I’m even too sore to go to yoga today (the thought of warrior one scares me) but that’s okay because I really have to get back to my Gran Fondo training. Unfortunately Phillip is out of town so today is the first time I’m venturing out to ride all on my own. However, I consulted my training partner from 3,000 miles away and she reassured me I would be fine.
Time to ride!

Eh, gotta follow your body! Honor your hunger when it calls.
Happy Wednesday!
Oh I know the feeling. I remember one time specifically my BFF and I did a bazillion calf raises. Oh. my. gosh. The next few days were murder! I need to get back to lunges though…work that booty! ;>
Oh lordie, lunges always make me SO sore. After I do a bunch of lunges (after a hiatus), it feels almost as bad as post-marathon soreness. Heh. I recommend an epsom salt bath and some ice cream! Always makes me feel better
Hope your body starts to feel better soon
GOtta love the day after so many lunges!!
Lunges are perfect for making a person sore, aren’t they? I get that same feeling whenever I go hiking, but usually it starts to feel more like a “good sore” in the following days.
Don’t you appreciate a good workout like that, though? It’s when you work your butt off and DON’T hurt the next day … those are the ones that worry me! LOL!
Sorry you woke up so early – would it make you feel better to know that I’m up earlier than that most days? At least you have a good breakfast to show for it!
K
good luck on the bike ride! It’s kind of fun to be sore isn’t it?
i bet you’re so sore…i did lunges on my walk the other day (around 100) and thought my legs would give out the whole way back to my office! good luck with the solo ride today
Ooo – I was wondering how you were going to feel today after all those lunges! I did a hardcore lower body workout a couple weeks ago and seriously could not walk for like 5 days!!! Cue to myself take it a little bit easier next time!
Hi Jenna. Any chance you could post the exact workout you did yesterday. I am always looking for a good leg workout that does not involve going to a gym! Thanks. Elizabeth
Be careful out there by yourself when you are so sore! Hope you had a good ride! In a couple days you will be back to normal! Take a nice warm bubble bath later!
Enjoy your ride! You will do great!
The bike ride should loosen you up!!
Oh I totally know how that feels! When I took my first Body Pump class, I couldn’t lift my arms or walk down the stairs for a couple of days, I was SO sore! But it felt totally good because I don’t get to feel that way very often. Have fun on your bike ride, you’ll be fine!
Have a good ride!
My back is REALLY sore, I tried the rowing machine at the gym for the first time! Ouch.
Wow, good morning to you! Hopefully your body adjusts soon
. And, oh my gosh, lunges get me ever time… SO TOUGH, but you’re such a trooper for staying with it, and going out for a solo ride. You rock Jenna
Lunges are killer on my legs too! No pain no gain though, right
Your o-nite oats look like your best yet!
Good luck on the ride! Your early mornin’ oats look delicious
Not cool!? I love waking up early when I go ‘back in time.’ I am a natural sleeper inner so waking up early naturally is a gift
Take advantage of the time!
Good luck on your ride and stay safe- I’m sure it’ll be great!
Hopefully your body will adjust soon!
Good luck on your solo ride!! Lunges are the one exercise that KILL me, so I feel your pain
Maybe riding will loosen you up a little and release some of the soreness.
I remember that feeling from the first time I lifted weights and pushed too hard. I had a hard time going up and down my stairs. Good luck training for your race.
enjoy the bike ride! at least you’ll have more time to get through everything today
That much cinnamin makes me want to sneeze!
Kudos to you for doing such a hard workout. It’s very difficult to push yourself that hard without other people for motivation. It’s so awesome you have trainer friends to inspire you.
Jet lag is terrible! When I first moved to Korea, I woke up at 3 am every morning and fell asleep at 6pm. Ugh!
It hurts, but that sore feeling makes me happy because I know my body’s healthy. Good luck on the bike ride!
As painful as it is, feeling sore is such a rewarding feeling!! You know that you are building strength in your body–and that is going to be essential for race day. I hate waking up when I’m not supposed to. I went to bed way early last night for a 545am yoga class…and ended up waking up around 4am hungry for breakfast (a mix of going to bed earlier and EXCITEMENT for some vinyasa!) I usually don’t wake up until 7:30/8ish…big change! I am a big schedule person but sometimes you just have to go with the flow! Hope you can get back on track! Best, Nora
I agree with Megan (runners kitchen)…bath and ice cream has proven effectiveness
Good luck with the ride….I’m sore and I haven’t even been running or doing 500 lunges
…so yeah you have good reason.
…not that that’s a bad thing!!!:)
And you should really change your blog name to something with Oatmeal!!! Seriously, it’s a staple picture of every post!
I can’t imagine doing all those lunges…yikes!! Mmmm your OO’s look creamy + delicious. Good luck on your solo ride!
Have fun! Make sure you wear your helmet and pads!!! Watch for cars and stuff!
I can imagine you’re sore! I think I would be sore after 10 lunges, let alone everything you girls did! Good luck on the ride, I’m sure it will be great!
Ugh that’s way too early!!
good luck with your ride! when I was in SF i made a fool out of myself by biking everywhere…there were MANY honks
Good luck girl!!! It would be hard for me to even walk, much less DO anything physical after that so go you!!!
Your overnight oats always look SO freakin good.. yummy
Hi! Craziness – I did a Bootcamp workout yesterday too!!! And I’m so sore I can barely walk…looks like yoga for me tonight!

A little exercise might help loosen up the muscles.
I sort of like feeling sore, which I know sounds strange but I like knowing that I pushed my body. I understand that you can be just as effective and be pain free but sometimes a little soreness makes me feel great!
Lunges Kill! which is why I avoid them…they are a necessary evil sometimes!
Ohh that fruit cup is b-e-a-uuutiful! and that sushi sounds amazing.
Aww, you’ll back to your normal sleep schedule in no time, and those oats look amaaazin!
I did a million lunges yesterday too and I’m definitely hurting. Hopefully you’ll be back to normal soon!
lunges and squats ALWAYS make me sore no matter how good of shape i’m in. Whenever I do squats it hurts to squat down on the potty LOL
sorry you woke up so early, i haven’t seen 5 oclock since high school!
gah i haaaate waking up earlier than i need to! i woke up at 7 this morning only to find out i was snowed in, and have nada to do all day.
I half expected to be feeling the same way this morning after going to a women’s boxing class on Monday night (it usually takes a day to kick in), but it’s actually OK. Too bad I am going to really test that theory by going to kickboxing tonight – eek!
Also, eat when you’re hungry. I had 2 poached eggs on english muffins and a green monster this morning and within an hour of getting to work I was munching on a bowl of raisin bran. Some days are weirder than others, but I think the problems start when you eat and you’re NOT hungry! Plus I am pretty sure you lunged your way to that breakfast without realizing it
Your breakfast looks so yummy and great for powering your ride!
Chia seeds make overnight oats the best!
When I wake up like that I always make myself go back to sleep and the hunger goes away!!! How much almond butter do you use? That looks muy delicioso! Even though I just ate a big lunch, that picture makes me HUNGRY again!!!
I hate that traveling throws off my hunger! Those oats look great though!
Looks like a de-licious bowl of oats!
hi jenna. your writings have inspired my wife and I to visit healdsburg in august. i have a few questions about the area….maybe you could email me and I will pose them to you?
That is one yummmmmmmy looking breakfast!!
