Where am I? What time is it? Why isn’t a fresh pot of coffee brewed and every flavor of Chobani greek yogurt available in the fridge?
I’m at a loss.
I don’t have a new recipe for you today because currently I don’t have any flour, butter, sugar, chocolate or even bread in my kitchen right now. I know..the horror! I got home from the East coast late last night and have a major grocery shop in store for this morning, along with picking up my furry beast from the pet hotel! I had fun with his cousins, but now it’s time for bonding once again. If he remembers who I am, that is.
So instead of my usual Thursday morning butter and sugar laden recipe, here’s a short list of what I’m loving now! Don’t judge.
1. my kindle.
I know I ranted and raved about how I would never EVER get one, but now that I have one I can’t imagine life without it. It pretty much saved my life yesterday between my four hour layover and six hour flight back home, and so far, I’ve read a total of six books on it (since Christmas). Don’t hate.
2. Baron Baptiste’s 40 Day Program
Remember when I hurt my shoulder? Well, I’ve let it rest for a month now and am excited to participate in my studio’s 40 day program! Basically, I’ll be doing yoga 6x a week for 40 days…a great way to start off the year and go deeper with my practice! The program kicks off this Saturday and I’ll keep you updated with how it (and my shoulder) goes.
3. skiing.
Okay so I’ve never actually tried to ski, but after my snowboarding incident (crying and yelling at Adam to leave me on the mountain) last month, I think I’m going to give it a shot. God help me.
4. mint.
Mint in brownies, mint in oreos, mint in candy….mint!
5. flat shoes.
Especially when they’re mom’s…and especially when mom gives them to you! Oh, and because heels are overrated.
6. college football.
Because I watched so much of it last week I thought my brain would burst, because Ohio State won the Sugar Bowl, and because I miss my dad.
7. the pioneer woman’s pistachio cake
[photo courtesy of the pioneer woman]
Using packaged pudding sounds so dirty…and I like it.
8. proverbs.
because a little heavenly wisdom is always a good thing.
9. beef.
it’s what’s for dinner. And it’s darn tasty.
I’m kinda addicted to reading what Jen eats for breakfast every morning and I’ve gotten some great ideas for myself there, too!

Do you download books by buying them on a Kindle? Hah – it would be great if you could it for free – the trick is you have to pay for the books right?
Most of the classics are free to download.
I know the Nook is compatible with most libraries that have digital check outs and you can keep it around 14 days. (If you need longer don’t connect online to finish).
Not sure other differences between the two, but really wish the Kindle would offer this too.
Really? What’s a Nook?…;)
I loe your ‘what i’m loving’ list. I’m loving much of the same things. Flat shoes, check. Simply Breakfast Blog, check. Mint, check. Yoga, check.
I could sure use a kindle in my life too.
Have a great day!
Ever since you posted about the Kindle, I’ve felt that I must.have.it.now. If only I had identified this need before Christmas! Dear Santa, please come back.
Proverbs is fantastic! Check it out in The Message, it will hit in the heart and make you laugh!
The yoga program sounds really cool! I bet you will build some great strength!
I adore my kindle sooo much too. I had to goto court yesterday for my divorce and I brought my kindle and read almost a full book while waiting for the trainwreck of a couple who was taking up sooo much time.
I love college football but as a diehard Wolverine, I cannot agree about the results of the Sugar Bowl!
I’ve been seeing some of these “What I’m Loving Now” posts and I “love” them! Haha! You’ve inspired me to write one today. Thanks for sharing the breakfast blog! I love it! Have a great day!
DYING to make the PW’s pistachio cake!
I’m with you on the beef, college football, and yoga. Those things all make me happy. I can’t believe college football has come to the end!
Jenna, what a great list! You are actually the one who got me hooked onto Pioneer Woman & I love her recipes too
Welcome home!!
I’m so jealous of your yoga studio! I wish mine had a 40 day program… maybe I can just do one on my own
Heels are definitely overrated, even if you are short like me:-)
Heels are definitely overrated, even if you are short like me:-)
oooh, I’ve never seen that breakfast blog before! Thanks for sharing!
And yes, I’m totally into flat shoes right now too. although in Michigan in the winter, i’m realizing it’s just not practical. I need boots.
I always said I would never get a Kindle either but now that my parents each have one, I find myself lusting after it. Plus e-books are becoming more available at the library…
I love skiing! I feel so good knowing that my feet are not both stuck to one board, too. And I am with you on beef being pretty darn good.
I have been going back and forth on buying an e-reader (I am considering the Nook)! I am so torn!
And I completely agree that heels are overrated.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I will ever love flat shoes. Ever!
I LOVE to ski! It is so much fun and I think easier to learn than snowboarding. Good luck
Also–I want a Kindle so bad. I, like you, said I would never ever get one but after hearing so many great things about it from my friends & on blogs I really want one.
I was also a kindle hater…but now I have an ipad and read all my books on there. I feel bad for real books now
They are gonna be lonely.
LOVE flat shoes…maybe a little too much.
That looks scrumptious!
where’s that recipe for the croissant french toast? i have been thinking about it daily since you mentioned it.
hmmm I’ve gotta email mom for that one!
I think we all get caught up on whats going wrong in our lives, or what we’re wanting to improve. It is so great to read positive things, and that you appreciate what you have in your life. No matter how simple. Well done!
I am still anti-kindle. But I have nothing but love for Baptiste yoga and flat shoes.
If it makes you feel better, skiiing is ten times easier than snowboarding.
Ooh – please do blog about your feelings on 40 Days. My studio here in upstate NY is also running 40 Days starting next week and I’m finally participating this year. I’d love to hear your thoughts as it goes along.
I will!
You are seriously making me want a Kindle…I have been on the fence now for at least a few years but I think I’m going to bite the bullet and get one in 2011. I just have to read the actual books I got for Christmas, first!
I used to say that I would never, ever get a Kindle either. But then my husband decided to let me try his out. I have been reading a book on it for the past few days an I love it! I now want one of my very own. By the way, “The Hunger Games” is a wonderful book. Best book I have read in a long time.
1) those shoes are a-dor-a-ble !!, 2) you’ve made me want a kindle, 3) take me skiing! .. if you can snowboard, you can totally ski. i am the most uncoordinated person ever (i run, but i don’t consider myself athletic) but for some reason i took to skiing on my first try. i mean, you have these large wooden strips to stay balanced on. snowboarding is wayyy harder & i will not dare attempt that
I know I’ve said it before but I adore your flats!! As well as your collection of yoga tops
Dating an Aggie and showing a picture of the Longhorns’s field? The horror!
bahahaha i know i know…I realize that now (after an early morning text from Adam himself) but the irony is that that photo was actually taken by ADAM on Thanksgiving when the Longhorns played the Aggies!
Well since the Aggies whooped the Longhorns that game, that makes it better.
Gig’em!
Skiing is way easier than snowboarding! (But, Adam could have told you that, right?) No, I know it is a matter of opinion but from someone whose done both a majority of her life, I’m a full time skiier these days.
I always feel so frazzled whenever I come home froma long vacation!
What a beautiful, balanced, pretty-looking list! Good luck transitioning back into life in Cali!
That beef looks delish! I’m loving it too.
i’m still so wary of the kindle…but you make it sound ok! good luck with the yoga thing…that’s going to be a great way to workout and do something you enjoy
and you’re going to LOVE skiing…it’s so much easier than boarding!
ha…just before I clicked my computer on, I’d been perusing Proverbs also! Seems like a worthy place to spend some time in the new year….
love,
cathy b. @ brightbakes
college football = my happiness. although i go to virginia tech and we lost in the orange bowl
fail. haha
By some miracle I WON a giveaway at my local studio for a year and I am thinking about doing their 40 days program! I can’t wait to read more. Yoga is just one of those things I need more of in my life and I want to take this blessing and make the most of it. Can’t wait to follow your yoga journey!
I absolutely adore Jen’s blog. Glad to see it posted here
)))
For what its worth, I think skiing is easier than snowboarding!!! Good luck
Oh and GO BUCKS!!!
The picture of the waffle with the egg on top looks TO DIE FOR right now. It’s about 7:15am and I’m about to get ready for school… and make a very healthy juice… but I my taste buds would MUCH rather a yummy waffle. Great “What I’m loving” list! =)
You kind of lost me on the Ohio State thing. I don’t always root for the SEC, but definitely did not want the Buckeyes to win.
Go Dawgs!
Happy New Year!
I saw that recipe on the Pioneers Woman site, too! I’ll have to try it. And I love proverbs.
I started out snowboarding…basically it sucked and I never wanted to see snow again. Now I ski…it’s heaven!! Try the skis, you’ll wonder why you even wasted time on that stupid snowboard
love your list. proverbs is one of my faves…and i can’t believe i’ve never seen that breakfast blog, because it is my fave meal of hte day! even had breakfast for dinner served @ our wedding. love.
I’m a huge fan of that breakfast blog too! My friend suggested it to me as it has become a big joke that my blog ALWAYS features breakfast. At least Jen admits it
.
SO proud of the Bucks for beating an SEC team for the first time ever in a BCS bowl game! Woohoo!!!
Share about your 40 day challenge! Hope your shoulder is okay during yoga. I’m jealous of your yoga wardrobe!
me too! no chaturungas!! I’m taking it real easy and slow!
What I’m loving right now? Your blog. Except I’m pretty much always loving it
thank you
I’ve SO been eyeing up that pistachio cake from Pioneer Woman.. I totally forgot about making those peppermint patties! Thanks for the reminder
I think I’m giving in and using my christmas money to order a kindle today (: !!!
I learned to ski when I was 27 and I have some good advice for you. Take ski lessons! At least for a day. It is absolutely worth the money.
I took a week of group lessons and while the lesson itself was really hard, it made me learn how to ski much faster than I otherwise would. It also made it a lot less scary!
Everyone I know who learned to ski as an adult and took lessons now loves to ski, whereas I know several people who didn’t take lessons who HATE skiing. It makes a world of difference.
I can’t help but love the first picture of your breakfast from Heidi’s.
I love my Kindle too!!!!!! And The Pioneer Woman and your white chicken chili. Oh my word. I made that last night and it was amazing!!!!!!
The Chanel shoes and foot tattoo. I have a Chanel purse and a foot tattoo (and many more!)…I love your style
And the Lulu store that I thought was your closet. Got I got kinda jealz there for a hot second.
I love Baron Baptiste! Maybe you are studying w/ him in person b/c I know he’s in the Bay Area a lot. Maybe it’s a podcost. Anyway, I have practiced with him once…have a blast. Glad your shoulder is healed!
And i dig the red leather kindle case. Tres chic!
I love flats too, which is a little silly of me ’cause I’m so short
Glad you made it back safe to the left coast!
My Kindle is coming in the mail today! Hooray!
Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.
This is why I read your blog.
I was like you and swore against e-readers until I got my kindle and I love it so much! Reading on it feels so natural and I love how much less cluttered my house is. I have the same case as you too – love the flashlight!
BEEF! No more needs to be said. I love it too!
40 days of yoga sounds amazing. wish i had that sort of dedication… maybe one day!
Awesome. 40 days of yoga! Beef! Yum. I want an eReader now. I’m currently using my iPhone. I love that you added in the shoes from your mom. I’m constantly pilfering my mom’s shoes.
I loved your blog before, and then you go and mention the Buckeyes, and now I love you even more!
I was reading through some of your old posts last night and while they were great, I love your current posts even more. Keep up the excellent work!
You might… just might.. be making me want a kindle! I’m still on the fence.
Not sure where to put this so I will just add it here.
Takle us grocery shopping with you! I love seeing what people put in their carts at the store.
You mentioned you had a big shop to do-let us know what you buy to restock.
I am in Canada and am blown away by all the selection you have down there.
So tell us where you like to shop for what and what you load up on!
Please!
Love this post! Glad your back safe and sound – and enjoy your bonding time with your furball!
I will be skiing on my upcoming trip, instead of snowboarding (I can wakeboard too). My issue with skiing is they start to cross for each curve, but I’ve heard way too many stories about the falls with snowboarding.
how do you make your blog so crisp all the time; it looks wonderful each time I read.
thanks for all the links and this post is great references to other sites. truly a good tribute to other blogs here!
Love this post, one of the many things on my to do list this year is to try out yoga. It’s just difficult to find a place offering it when you live in the middle of nowhere!
and those waffles….I’m so not a waffle person but I want them in my life pronto.
My daughter just got a kindle, she’s only ten. Where’s mine?
that pistachio cake is calling my name. i’m sure i’ll be loving it VERY soon too
You should use ski blades when you try skiing! They are shorter and much easier to maneuver around in. They make turning much easier and you don’t get tangled. Have fun!
Great list, lots of good things here. The cake pic is making me hungry.
I was also one of those people that said I would never get a Kindle but I love mine now too.
It was a gift so I technically didn’t get it for myself…. LOL.
I’m dying to try that pistachio cake from PW – looks so yummy and now I want a peppermint patty!
Fun list, Jenna! I’ve never heard of that blog, but apparently a lot of people love it. Definitely am going to check it out!
I can’t wait to hear how your 40 days of yoga goes. I wish I could do something like that, but I teach the only yoga class at my gym and my town doesn’t have a studio…sad, right?! I’ll just live vicariously through you:)
That’s a lot of yoga! I wish I could say I was doing half that much. Hope the shoulder cooperates.
Wooo Ohio State!
oooh have fun doing a big grocery shop – always a favourite, such fun! Have fun with your pup too. I’m also loving Jen’s blog. Yay for getting back into yoga too!
Heidi xo
Ok. Those waffles look amazing and now I’m totally inspired to make my own this weekend on my NEW waffle maker! Any ideas on how to spice ‘em up a little??
I’m LOVING college football, too!! It’s hard not to when your school’s rocking this year. Woohoo Auburn!!
And that yoga plan sounds awesome. You’ll feel so so incredible after it all!
Have you ever done yoga on yogaglo.com? Its awesome… Kathryn Budig & Elena Bower are amaaazing!! They have all different yoga classes to pick from too… you should check it out!
Proverbs and breakfast are on my list of favorite things as well
I just added the Simply Breakfast blog to my google reader! I wish I had that much variety in my breakdfasts! The pictures are amazing and I checked out her etsy shop too… might have to add some of her photo’s to my kitchen walls!
Yay! I love this post
It’s nice to see more personal details of your life like you used to share everyday on your blog. I’ve missed reading these little details about your day to day life, this post was fun
i agree…i held out on the kindle FOREVER because i was a lit. major and love to write in books….but my boyfriend bought me a nook and i love it!
how did you hurt your shoulder? my left shoulder is killing me so i’m thinking of laying off the yoga but that makes me sad.
Thanks for stopping by!
ahhhhh, love this list, lady. so so so lovely. and agh! please dont make me tempted to get a kindle! please don’t! because then i know i won’t be able to fathom buying lovely smelly old books for my collection. ah! say it ain’t so.
Anyone have an idea of which is better value? nook or kindle?
yea skiing!! come ski colorado sometime, the food is great out here!
