Good afternoon!
This morning around 8:30 I finally pulled myself up and headed to the gym. I missed spinning but made it a productive workout regardless!
First,I went downstairs to do some strength first: 10 walking push-ups, shoulder raises, tricep dips, overhead tricep extensions. Then, headed upstairs to get in my cardio! Per doctor’s orders, I walked for about a mile on the treadmill and then ever so slowly, increased my speed to a VERY slow jog (5.3 speed) and jogged for almost a mile. Followed by another half mile of walking and about six more minutes of slow, slow jogging for a total of 45 minutes. Afterwards I felt GREAT! My new orthotics should be in on Wednesday and today convinced me that if I just take things really slow, I will get back there and succeed. My goal pace might be, err, a few minutes slower than I would like but at least I will be able to run! π
After the treadmill I saw my dad working out downstairs so I met him to do another set of 10 walking push-ups (Jillian style, baby!) and 2 set on the row machine.
I showered and got ready at the gym and then got quite hungry on the way home so I reached in my bottomless pit purse for a snack.

I had about half of this and then felt like I was about to puke. I think my Primal Strip days have come to an end. I mean when you think about it, WHAT ARE YOU EATING? I’d almost rather eat beef jerky since the ingredient list is shorter! I really feel soooo much better when I limit the amount of processed foods in my diet and this made me realize that just because something might be vegan, doesn’t necessarily make it better for you. Sorry those avid Primal Strip lovers…to each their own!
My morning was saved by a REAL juicy nectarine at home. π

And then around 11:30 I met Kathleen for lunch across the street at The Wine Exchange. Kathleen and I have been good friends for about 10 years now and she works as an Trauma ER nurse at the same hospital that my brother died at. She wasn’t working that night, unfortunately. It was great to catch up…she has the craziest work schedule (sort of like my old schedule!) and hadn’t been to bed yet since her shift last night. Ugh!
Here we are 2 1/2 years ago (as you can see, I stole Christie’s lax jacket):

Right when we got to the restaurant, they brought out the BEST bread ever. Warm and doughy hunks…impossible not have a piece!

And then for my meal I ordered The Roasted Vegetable Salad with shrimp on top. Oh my gosh, was it ever tasty!!!

This might just be my “perfect” salad. Spinach, walnuts, feta, roasted eggplant, shrimpies…..with a coarse grain honey mustard dressing on the side. I thought I had died and gone to heaven!
Kathleen ordered the “Paris Sandwich”— honey mustard, brie cheese and turkey. Love it!

I’m a busy bee this afternoon—got a conference call in an hour (yay Blog Summit!!!), work to get done, an appointment at the apple store at 5:00 to clean up my slow, old mac and then I’m cooking dinner at my parent’s house! My mom was going to cook the fish herself but she won’t be getting home until 6:30 and Ryan won’t be there until around then as well. I’m going to grill it and probably do some grilled veggies on the side. Hopefully it will be delicious!
Have a great afternoon!
Kati

THANK YOU! I couldn’t agree more with you.
Sometimes I have this same dilemma going on in my head…and i’m really realizing that I do much better with the less processed stuff that I put in my body. This includes some veggie/vegan products.

June 8, 2009 at 5:36 pmHi Jenna,
Glad to hear you sounding so cheerful and vibrant. π
I did half a Dave Farmar Podcast at the gym today. I had to stop at about 45 because I was having difficulty following some of this instructions without seeing them (crossing hands over legs, etc). I think it will get easier as I understand his flow.
The first half was awesome and I like his sense of humor. I haven’t been able to do a good flow like that in a long time. How nice is it to be alone and not battling others for mat space during the workout? π
Good luck with all you’ve got going on!
Matt

Hey there from Canada! Just wanted to drop you a line and say that a) I love your blog – you are totally inspiring and informative, and I find the greatest tips on here!
and b) I made your Brown Sugar Cinnamon Banana Bread (ok, with some chocolate chips sprinkled on top) and it was FANTASTIC! I think it will be my go-to recipe for BBread from now on – which says a lot (I can’t handle bruised bananas)
I also wanted to say good luck with Team In Training and the SF marathon – its one of those races that I’d like to do in the next couple of year, and I think I’ll be going the Team in Training route as well – they have such a great program in place and everything I’ve read from participants makes it sound pretty awesome.
Anyways… all this to say – you are doing an excellent job, keep up the good work, and thank you!
Christie from Canada
