Birthday Week Begins!

Haaaaaappy Monday!

Yay for my birthday being on Thursday! I’m getting so OLD though! I wish I was 18 again….now that would be perfect. šŸ˜‰

I had my favorite cold cereal combo this morn’—-a cup of Nature’s Path Optimum with a sprinkle Quaker Oatmeal Squares in almond milk with a naner.

I bought new almond milk at the store the other day because now that Ryan drinks it too we just burn through it at rapid pace. I’ve always drank the Pacific Brand Organic Almond Milk but this time I tried the Almond Breeze Vanilla and LOVE it even more!! I bought this kind because it comes in a half gallon jug so you get more for less $$ and I think it tastes even better than Pacific brand. Very creamy and delicious. I know that the vanilla kind has more sugar than original but its a sacrifice I’m willing to take because I love the taste!
I also had a cup of citrus white tea, from Jo in the UK!

I decided against my usual spin class this morning because I want to get some work done this morning before working out. I’m having lunch with an old friend from high school today so I want to get as much done before I go! Plus, my doctor really wanted me to focus more on walking/starting to jog rather than cycling. I’ve got to get my endurance back!!
I hope everyone has a great start to their week!

    Hey Jenna,
I’m curious as to why you don’t drink soy milk anymore. Is it just the taste preference of almond milk? Because I know as a milk substitute soy has more protein and therefore is more comprable to milk… although I LOVE almond milk too, so I switch it up! Just wondering. Have a wonderful start to your birthday week!

      Kristin,

Its just a personal preference of mine—I try to stay clear from as much processed soy food as possible. I love my veggie burgers and soy dogs but I don’t like to have soy every day.

Yay for birthday week! I’m trying to get my butt to the gym too. It will happen. It’s just a matter of when…
Speaking of Almond Milk. I made my own the other day. It is super simple and DE-LISH! Here the link to my post. http://glutenfreegidget.blogspot.com/2009/06/i-am-so-excited.html

I’ve been using Almond Breeze for a while now, since I was told to stop having dairy. I like it. It’s great to cook your oatmeal in. It comes out super creamy. I use the unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze. I prefer that sweetened, but I figured I didn’t need to start my day by pouring sugar over my cereal. šŸ™‚

Happy birthday week! Does that almond milk have protein in it? All of the brands i’ve seen have been quite low in protein which is what has steered me away from it. I’d love to find some with it though!

      april,

It doesn’t have hardly any protein in it. I don’t worry about it. Actually, I don’t really worry about protein at all anymore. I know I am getting enough and don’t need to have a ton at every meal. I am feeling great, strong and energized!

Yaaaay, Happy Birthday week! I’m going to have to give Almond milk a try one of these days…I just can’t get over thinking that it’s going to be super thick and coat my mouth/stomach…which I really don’t think I’d like!!

Happy Birthday week jenna! So exciting- can’t wait to see what you’ll be up to.

Just a quick question re: soy (again…sorry): I don’t drink soymilk either, but not for health reasons, I just don’t like the taste. I was wondering why you suddenly made the change- I know you said it’s personal preference, but I know you enjoy the taste (you used to drink it a lot). You have also said in the past that you have not read any definitive research indicating any possibility of adverse effects caused by soy, and that you won’t decrease your intake until you see such research. (I believe this blurb is still on your FAQ, or it’s in one of your old posts). So my question is, Did you find such research? If so, do you mind sharing? If not, how did you get convinced to make the switch?

Sorry for the long question! One last one: I read, a few posts ago I think, that you think pacific brand almond milk “blows almond breeze out of the water”. I’ve actually been drinking almond breeze for years but was tempted by pacific brand after reading you say that. But I’ve noticed you changed your mind! Are you referring to the original only? or the vanilly flavour? Just wondering if it’s still worth it to try the pacific brand!

    Thanks so much! =)

      cupcakes,

I probably haven’t had soymilk in the past eight months. I used to drink light silk vanilla but then I just really got sick of it and switched to almond milk. I don’t like to consume soy every day and I WAS when I was drinking soymilk every single morning. No research—just strictly personal preference. I like to switch things up! I think almond milk, especially the vanilla kind, tastes a lot better too! Definitely try it and let me know what you think! šŸ™‚

Holla to the Birthday Week!! Aren’t they the best? Girl, you aren’t getting old. Perhaps just more seasoned? Nothing wrong with more flavuh.

Shoot, I thought I wanted oat bran for b-fast until I saw your cereal. What to do, what to do?

    Have a great Monday!

    Happy birthday week!!
I admit I’m addicted to Almond Breeze too, and now go through it at an alarming rate because I’ve got the bf onto it (in Green Monsters, too! He was so skeptical at first, just like Ryan!). I love the unsweetened vanilla kind, because you get the yummy vanilla flavor and none of the excess sugar.

I would love to be able to buy the half gallon size of almond milk but Almond Breeze contains soy ingredients which is not friendly to my skin or stomach. I buy the Pacific Brand which only comes as a quart. I hope you have a great birthday week – you are far from old šŸ™‚

Happy Birthday Week! My sister’s birthday is Thursday too…:D

Hi Jenna. I tried my first veggie burger this weekend, it was Amy’s. I was afraid that I wouldn’t like it after I tried soy meatballs a few months ago and hated them. But…I LOVED it. It actually tasted wonderful. It had the consistency of a real burger, which I loved. I also tried an Oikos vanilla yogurt this weekend too, with strawberries and granola. On my list this week is a GM. I’m a little afraid. I made one a couple months ago and didn’t love it. I’m going to try again. Have a great birthday week. You are not old. I think I’m about ten years older than you, I’m OLD.

Happy Birthday Week! My birthday is in a couple of weeks. I don’t want to hear how old you are though, because in two weeks I am officially “pushing 40”.

I really enjoy your blog. Even though you sometimes make me feel old. Occasionally I wonder why I can’t find late 30-something and 40-something healthy living bloggers (I know they are out there!) but I figure we’re just old enough to be late to the game.

I wish I had your healthy living lifestyle when I was in my 20’s. Man, when I think of the crap I ate and drank back then (and the money I flushed down the toilet eating out), it makes me shudder.
