Lunch

A Fun Afternoon

Sorry for the delayed post! This is actually the first time I’ve been at my laptop all day. I misunderstood the shopping spree event today. It was actually a day of pampering for the girls because Saks and Mercedes Benz is sponsoring a fashion show next week with them! So, Ryan and I drove the girl and her mom we were assigned to Saks and there she got her nails done, her makeup done, a huge bag of goodies (including a new ipod!), and got to pick out her outfit for the show next week. She was soo sweet—16 years old and battling a brain tumor. She gave Ryan and I huge hugs when we dropped her and her mom back at their apartment and I’m so glad I got a chance to be a small part of the event today, even though it wasn’t the day in the sun I was imagining. Just seeing her face when she opened up her gifts was amazing.

For lunch, I picked up some food from the health food store: a veggie sushi roll and a big cup of vegan split pea soup. Later on in the afternoon, Ryan and I got smoothies (I got mine with peaches, stawberries, apple juice and a splash of soy milk) and even later yet, I nibbled on some trail mix. I love smoothies but they don’t fill me up very much because all they are is just fruit. I need some fat in the mix! Ryan got a smoothie with orange juice, bananas and strawberries–and he did a wheatgrass shot!! THAT is def. a first! Good thing I caught it on camera! 🙂

We are going to my parent’s house for dinner tonight. My mom is making, as we all know, my favorite bean dish as well as potatoes and a super yummy red cabbage dish. Ryan, her and my brother get chicken as well.

I hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing sunday!

    Hi Jenna!
I was at the library this morning in search for a good book. I looked at your ‘books’ section and decided to start reading Beach Music… I’ve only read like 60 pages of it but I LOVE it!
I’m going to Italy this summer… so this book is definitely boosting up my enthusiasm for my trip!

    Have a good Sunday!

I just “made” your banana with peanut butter snack this morning but didnt want it yet, so I stuck it in the FREEZER and took it out around 4. Then at 4:10 I folded down the plastic wrap and took a bite! YUM! It gets a little ‘slimy’ as it thaws, so keep the plastic wrap around it, but it was amazingly cold, creamy and tasty! MMMMM

Emily, that sounds delicious! I’ll try it next time we have bananas in the house.

Has anyone else tried unsweetened vanilla almond milk? I just opened a thing of it yesterday and I love it! I just enjoyed a nice tall glass with a vegan chocolate chip cookie. Yum!

Amy, I drink the unsweetened (organic) vanilla almond milk all the time. It’s delicious (and has no sugar, which I really appreciate). Glad you discovered it too!

Jenna, your smoothie looks delicious! And what a wonderful thing you and Ryan did for that sweet girl. I am sure your gesture of love and kindness will be something she remembers for the rest of her (hopefully very long!) life.

Have a wonderful dinner with your mom tonight. I thought it was so cute that she posted on here yesterday with news of your favorite bean dish…just like a mom! 🙂

I’ve never tried peaches in a smoothie…I bet that would be good. I’m going to have to give it a go when they’re back in season!

    Hey Nicole,
I was hesitant to buy it cause its the weirdest looking thing. I actually got one of the cactus pricklers stuck in my finger!
I live 30 minutes north of Boston, but I got it at a Stop and Shop. I just googled it and I guess its the actual fruit that grows on cacti in the deset..pretty weird.
Im gonna try it in the morning, so Ill leave a post and let you know how it is.

hey! i LOVE almond milk (i use almond breeze b/c we don’t get the pacific brand here) and it is SO good! i love nutty flavor of it (but i’m a nut fan anyway!). has anyone else tried the Oikos Greek yogurt? i just picked some up b/c the store was all out of Fage and it was REALLY good! a lot cheaper too and didn’t have that wet paper in it. Plus, it’s made by Stoneyfield which is all organic-i highly suggest it!^_^(comes in a pretty little container)

Ana, I didnt like the Oikos Yogurt, I thought it was a lot thinner then Fage or TJ’s. I dont know if you have a Trader Joes, but they have greek yogurt for way cheaper then Fage too. I think its pretty good, and better then Oikos.

    Jenna,
You and Ryan are just precious!! Will you post some more pictures of you two!! How long have you been together? I love the fact that he is so supportive of your dietary choices, and even tries to embrace them a little (with the wheatgrass shot) HOW PRECIOUS!!!! I love your blog, and you provide so much inspiration and fabulous meal ideas, even for us “non-vegans!” I am not a vegan by ANY means, but found myself buying Boca Burgers and Boca Breakfast wraps because of you!! 🙂

That’s so sweet of you two! Sounds like you ha a really good afternoon. The food looks marvelous. Vegan sushi is the best invention in the world, I was never a fan of fish myself so I’ve always loved the vegan stuff anyway!
