Breakfast

Always Rushing

Good Morning!

I surprised myself this morning by waking up before my alarm went off. I quickly ate half a banana with about a tsp of peanut butter and hit the apartment gym for some cardio and abs. I did 25 minutes on the elliptical machine (while watching the Today Show, of course!) and some crunches. When I got back I made a big bowl of multigrain cereal with the other half of my banana, some more pb, cinnamon, a tbsp of flax, 1/2 cup hemp milk, 1/2 cup water and some agave nectar. A good start to the day, for sure! I was even productive enough to make part of my dinner for tonight and put it in the fridge for later! I have to cram everything I possibly can into my mornings now because I’m at work all day and when I get home, I’m rushing to eat and be back out the door for school. I wish I could wake up even earlier than I do, but when you don’t go to bed til after midnight anyway, you want to be sure you are getting enough sleep—that’s the most important thing!!

I packed my lunch last night and now am getting ready to rush out the door for another busy day!

    Caitlin,

Unfortunately I can’t recommend anyone in the orlando area just because I’m not very familiar with it. Yes, I live here but I only go to work and school and then I go home to Tampa on the weekends. I can recommend people in Tampa, because I know the area much much better! I’m sorry!!! I wish I knew Orlando better but living here in such a transitory thing since I’m moving home in the fall when I’m done with school.

    Hi Jenna!
Do you refrigirate your natural PB? I find if I do, then it gets hard and I cant stir it in my oatmeal or on anything else for that matter!!!! But is it unsafe not to refrigirate natural PB?

I always watch the Today Show at the gym. I particularly love the first like twenty minutes, when there are no commercials. I always do my hardest cardio then because it goes by so fast.

And Sara, I never refrigerate my natural peanut butter. You’re fine.

Can anyone suggest a good pair of sneakers? I need a new pair but haven’t bought any in so long that I don’t know what’s out there. For the most part I’m running on a treadmill or the elliptical, but once it gets warmer I’ll be running on a road/sidewalk surface. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Someone on the blog mentioned they do Exhale core fusion. I plan on trying one, but how do you practice it regularly it’s the most expensive class! Even buying a pass it’s expensive! Is there a special for new members or students? I know some yoga studios offer specials the first month. Thanks!

Also, is exhale mostly core or does it also do arms?

Hey guys! So my stomach is usually relatively flat in the morning when I wake up, but as the day progresses and I drink liquids my stomach bloats out quite a bit. Any ideas why? Is this normal?

I’m sorry that your mornings are going to be hectic. But think of how much better you’ll feel with all of that stuff accomplished!

    Jules-
Its me who does core fusion, and actually I might start to teach!! πŸ™‚
I’m a full time college student, so I only pay $15–i would definitely be unable to go if I didn’t get a discount! Its such a good class though that even if you can only afford once or twice a week, you’re really going to benefit tremendously. The class incorporates arms, core, chest, butt, thighs, and back. Specifically, expect to do about 15 minutes of arm work, including intense free weights, about 30 or so push ups, 25 reverse plank tricep dips, and 5 minutes of plank and side plank. If you attend the advanced class, expect more repititions and harded variations, while if you attend the beginner class it will be more approachable to put you in the precisely correct position (both relative to the open level). Enjoy if you go!!

    Hey everyone!

Jenna, I’m about to buy a new cookbook and wanted your suggestion. I’m not a vegetarian or vegan but would love some more veg dishes in my diet. If you could only get one like veganomicon, my sweet vegan, or ED&BV…what would you suggest!?? I can only buy one right now πŸ™ and wanted your opinion as to which one you have enjoyed more!

    THANKs!

    Lisa R,

I have Veganomicon and Vive Le Vegan. I’m also not a vegetarian nor vegan, so I might be on the same boat as you (plus with the same name).

Although I love both books, I would start with Veganomicon for two reasons:

    – Veganomicon is HUGE with tons of recipe
    – It’s written in a way to interest all types of eaters, vegans and omnis alike.

It also dedicates the first part of the book teaching you how to cook certain types of food, and also explaining methods of cooking. All in all, it’s very user-friendly.

The other part I love about this book (and Vive le Vegan) is that it relies on whole foods instead of soy-based processed foods. It even has icons on recipes that are supermarket- friendly.

I think you’d win either way if you were to buy any of those books you mentioned, but if my arm were twisted, I would put my vote for Veganomicon!

    Caitlin,

    Here’s who I recommend for some vendors…

    Photography: Nikki Hartman

Cake: I’d go with Bake Me a Cake, but I have seen some amazing creations from Sprinkles Customs (Winter Park). Also, don’t scoff, but the last wedding I was at the cake was SO delicious and pretty (classic) and no one could believe but it was Publix.

I don’t know much about flowers or DJ’s (I would never have a DJ; I have nightmares about tacky DJs at weddings). But I have personally received some of the most lux, modern, beautiful flowers from the shop on Mills Avenue (don’t remember name)

    Sorry I don’t know more…

Lisa R, I would also suggest Veganomicon or any Moosewood cookbook. Veganomicon is my current obsession because the recipes are just fantastic. However, they are vegan – so NO animal products – whereas Moosewood is vegetarian so if you enjoy cheese, dairy, etc a lot of the recipes include those.

Not to diss Veganomicon, because it is AWESOME and I find myself not missing animal products at all….but it is a totally different way to cook and bake.
