Around Town

Hey guys!

How’s it going? I’m soaking as much family time in as I can today because my parents are going home tomorrow. However, tomorrow AnneP is coming to visit so I have that to look forward to!!

This morning there was oatmeal:

Followed by 75 minutes of yoga. That’s 5 straight days in a row for me….how are y’all doin’ with the yoga challenge month?! 🙂
I hung out at my parents hotel for a bit, ate a blood orange and paged through a new cookbook that I got for Christmas!

I am now determined to go visit Big Sur and eat at this restaurant….it looks sooo amazing. So many California adventures….!
The ‘rents took me to my favorite, Cafe Gratitude, for lunch and I had my standard half order of “I am Graceful” bowl with quinoa, veggies and Indian curry sauce:

We played at the KJ Wine Center for a little while (my dad had never been and loved it!) and then roamed around Healdsburg. I had a nonfat cappuccino for a little pick-me-up:

Extra foam….just the way I like it! 🙂
I also had a Chobani with an apple, honey and cinnamon for a snack:

It’s quite the dreary day outside and my mom and I are hanging out by the fire in the cozy little lobby of the Inn they are staying at. Tonight’s plans involve tacos and football!

That restaurant at Big Sur IS amazing. Even if it’s only for the views. Gorgeous. And the ride there is beautiful, too. And there’s this awesome and fun shop there. It totally seems like your kind of place.

There are other restaurants in the area that have fantastic views, too, and are fun. I can’t remember the name of this one I went to, but it had an amazing little art gallery and Japanese garden attached. Seriously beautiful.

Nepenthe is a local landmark and institution…in an area of so many terrific places that even a local can’t see it all. Once a year I like to go have a cheeseburger on that deck just for the view alone. Another famous place near there where they also serve lunch is Post Ranch Inn. http://www.postranchinn.com/

JFK, Jr. and Caroline Bessette Kennedy stayed there. The only reason I know is that I lived on Huntington Park on Nob Hill across from the Huntington Hotel and the doorman I used to chat with while catching cabs there waved me over. And said, ‘Wait here JFK, Jr is coming out, that’s his rental car, they are headed for Post Ranch Inn.’ It was a red convertible, he’d just put their luggage in. They came out. Gaga is all you can say. Dressed casually, dockers, baseball caps, etc, still amazing. The doorman, who has been there for decades [am refraining from using his name as wouldn’t want to get him in trouble] said, ‘They are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. Low-key, gracious, won’t let anyone carry bags for them, big tippers.’ etc. He said of all the famous people that stayed there, JFK, Jr., in his memory was the nicest.

The best meal I ever had was at Nerpenthe’s restaurant in Big Sur! Just found it by chance driving into the area. Between the view of the California coastline for miles and miles, and the fabulous food, it was more than I could imagine!

Good for you with all that yoga, Jenna! Now that it’s off season for running (at least for me, here in Illinois) I should really focus on yoga more. That way I get to practice more yoga, and I won’t get burnt out on running (on the treadmill, ugh!)
Glad you had fun in Healdsburg. Have a great taco and football night! (currently watching the Bears beat the Vikings!)

I went with my husband to his Bikram Yoga class that he goes to ALL THE TIME. This was actually my second time going. The first time I was NOT in good shape, thus felt like I was going to die, the heat alone was overwhelming. This time it was much easier, drenched in sweat though. BUT…I’m just not sure Yoga, hot or not, is for me. I feel much more at home, and motivated, in a gym. Give me a treadmill and a weight room, some rocking music and I’ll give it all I’ve got!
