Flick R 4 U

(I’m such a dork)

Hi guys! Hows your humpday treating you? I’ve been pretty productive thus far, creating a new Flickr account so you all can log on to see my food porn any time you want. lol

Pretty snazzy, no?

Also, on the spur of the moment I decided to hit up a 90 minute power yoga class at my studio. I’m been slacking off lately and my hips and hammies are SO tight from all the cardio I’ve been doing! Tisk tisk, Jenna! I really need to make the dedication to at least practice twice a week because it helps my running so much! The class I went to this morning was INTENSE, especially with the standing balances. Going from warrior three to half moon to revolved half moon to standing splits then BACK to half moon nearly killed me. However, an extra long savasana with awesome tunes totally made up for it and I walked out feeling like a brand new person! I also ran into the Hungry Yogini herself while I was there. She was working behind the desk and it was good to see her smiling face!

Because yoga was smack in the middle of lunchtime, I knew I’d need a snack before heading out. I broke into this Trader Joe’s trail mix that my friend Chrissy sent me awhile back in a sweet care package!

IMG_1657.JPG
I had one serving, which was 1/4 cup:

IMG_1658.JPG
Twas yum but didn’t seem like the most “natural” thing with the peanut butter chips 😉 My favorite part were the plump, sweet dried cherries!
And I didn’t get to do lunch till about 2:00 because yoga wasn’t over until 1:30. I quickly threw together yet ANOTHER salad (are you sick of them yet? I’m not!)!

IMG_1659.JPG
+ goodies 🙂

IMG_1660.JPG
All together now!

IMG_1661.JPG
The salad was awesome, per usual. It contained organic spring mix (yeahhh Costco!), sliced bell pepper, diced plum tomato, a hard boiled egg, 1/4 cup hummus, 1/3 cup whipped cottage cheese and Texas Pete!

IMG_1662.JPG
I never thought I could become such a salad addict but what do you know? They really fill you up when you junk ’em up with all the good(e) stuff! 😉
Speaking of the goode stuff, I need to buy some of it today at Total Wine to go with the dinner I’m making tonight of corn on the cob and shrimp po’ boy pitas!
I also do *need* (lol?) to do a teeny tiny bit of shopping for next weekend. Everyone I’ve talked to said its blazing hot during the day and chilly at night so pack layers. I also want to look professional yet laid back at the same time. All I do here in Florida is run around in rainbow flip flops and yoga pants all day so I might need some guidance. Haha. Anyone? (Anna, I’m talking to you, you fashionista!)

Girl, so great to run into you at the studio!!!! I was hoping I would bump into you soon =)

I see Jen taught her infamous standing series…gets my hiney in gear every time! She’s the best…and her music is always awesome.

Glad you enjoyed class! And let’s definitely plan on gettin together next week! Maybe Wednesday or Thursday?

Enjoy the rest of your day!

I am always chilly, so I totally second the layers advice. You love dresses, so I would pair those with cardigans, blazers, and SCARVES! Pashminas are terrific, because they can save you in a pinch- ’round the neck, over the shoulders, etc, etc. Bring lots of separates that you can mix and match so you don’t look too formal (like you might in a one color full suit- you might look like a gangster 🙂 !), but you still look professional.

Jenna – so that is versus the standard one with a creamy consistency? I wonder if we are talking about the same thing 🙂 I just buy Nordica 1% but holy cow I LOVE cottage cheese.

Can’t wait to see those po’ boy pitas :D. Sounds yummy!

For bottoms, I would go with a nice summery skirt, wide leg denim, or khakis (white is especially great in the summer, and capri style works well too). A polo tee, other nice tees, or simple summery blouses work well for the top. And cardigans are so versatile and pretty for chilly nights. I probably have a million cardis for various occasions and weather–I use them all!

I live in So Cal and we have been having similar weather to the wine country. I think I good business casual look would be some refined walking shorts (like capris, but they only go to the knee), a cute pair of ballet flats, and a blouse. Then you can always layer with a blazer for evening. I work in a business casual environment and that is practically my uniform 🙂 White walking shorts are my personal favorite.

I work in advertising in NYC and you’d be surprised how many people will dress VERY casual everyday! Although it’s a pretty casual place I do like to be a bit more professional and dresses are my go to in summer. Super easy to throw a blazer (look for linen in summer) or light cardigan on top and suddenly it looks like a skirt!
Also, I passed a store the other day and Ann Taylor Loft looks like they are having a HUGE sale so if there is one by you I’d suggest you check it out. Have fun shopping!

I agree with Kristen on the Ann Taylor Loft idea. I shop there all the time, the clothes fit awesome and have a nice clean line. I’m a Corporate Recruiter and absoltely think Ann Taylor will offer you many good ideas to look great. Whatever you go with the key is to just pick something you are comfortable in and feel confident in. I’m sure you have an awesome personality and are confident so just be yourself. Those are always the candidates that come across the best. GOOD LUCK!

Haha – love the Flickr account! And salads are definitely hitting the spot for me this summer too – it’s like the perfect food. As for fashion advice, I wish I could help you but what you run around in in FL is pretty much what I run around in up North! Good luck! 🙂

Love your salads. Also, check your muffin recipe from the other day. You post baking soda in the ingredients list and post baking powder in the instructions.

I made them last night and used baking powder cuz that made more sense, lol.

Fashion wise, I agree, sophisticated and business(ish) yet layed back. Considering what I can tell from your style I would opt for a casual j. crew or banana republic like knee length day skirt with an oxford (or any nice button-up) shirt that is casually tucked in with sleeves loosely cuffed up. And when it gets cooler at night you can just throw on a cute cardigan sweater or a casual “day” blazer (not talking suit here:) )Shoe wise I would go with either a cute pair of flats or those nice gold sandals you wore last weekend at the wedding! Also, if there is any big event (the first night you said when you need to give that 2 minute speech..eek!) I’d go with the outfit/dress you wore out to Flemming’s! Does that help?! Also, any cute anthro dress is always a perfect fit for day to night, cute yet chic, I have personality and my name is Jenna look! Don’t be nervous and just try to enjoy your time in CA. I know it’s easier said than done but it will make all the nerves go away and you will be more of yourself (which like you said with you’re homemade video it had to be your personality that sold these Wine lovers on picking YOU!). Good luck and I can’t wait to here and see (I know you’ll post some great pix) how it all went!! I’m no Anna, but hopefully my advice helped you out a bit?! I know these types of things can be so nerve racking!

i love cottage cheese on salads. i don’t know what it is, but the combo is delicious!

fashion advice: i would invest in a couple summery dresses (not prints), a fitted blazer, and a skinny belt. you can play with other accessories to go from day to night, wear them with heels or flats depending on how dressy you need to be, and layer the blazer to look more professional or to be warmer at night. you can wear the belt over the blazer to look more put together, or alone with a dress. also scarves are great for layering and adding a little interest if you have some with designs on them.

ok, i rambled – fashion talk gets me going. 🙂

Good tip on the Cali weather. Also, remember California tends to be more laid back. (I live in Cali, transplant from Indiana.) If you choose a suit, go with lighter color. Even something unusual like robin’s egg blue or pink thrown in there will work well. Just a thought. Good luck again!

It’s all in the accessories, imo. I work at a Manhattan art gallery and while I’m far from a fashionista, I can say the women I see who dress in simple colors tend to look more professional than the ones who wear lots of patterns. But these same women also mix it up and add flair via scarves, blazers, colorful heels, earrings, bracelets and other accessories. So they come off looking really put together and professional, but also youthful and fun. PLUS they can mix and match very easily.

I agree that dresses are a good bet because they tend to be in the middle of being casual and dressy, but I also don’t think it hurts to ask your contact what they recommend because who knows where you’ll be interviewing or what you’ll be doing when you’re there. Best to ask before you go out and spend a bunch on new clothes. My personal favorite is a nice pair of jeans and a cute blazer, but then again I work in marketing so my business is pretty causal. I also think that given the kind of job you’re interviewing your look is kind of part of the package so it doesn’t hurt to pick things out that represent your personal style. I’m sure you’ll get some great finds at anthro.

I grew up in Sonoma County, so I’m pretty familiar with the Wine Country weather. The key to Northern California weather is layers … the temperature changes pretty quickly. Usually it would be really hot during the day (but not a muggy hot like Florida) and then cool at night, but, we’ve been having somewhat milder weather lately (80s instead of 90s during the day.)

Most businesses in CA do embrace business casual (slacks, skirts, and nice tops) but a suit for an interview is probably best.

    Good luck!!!!

I just read down to your last post and thought of some of my favorite Healdsburg restaurants:

Bear Republic Brewery — it is more of a burgers and sandwich place, but, they have lots of options, yummy food and great beer in a great location.

Willi’s Wine Bar — this is one of my favorite restaurants. They are a small plates restaurant with lots of seafood.

Downtown Healdsburg is so cute and pretty much every restaurant is good.

Can you recommend a beginner/intermediate yoga workout for those of us who experience tightness from cardio but who are not well-versed in yoga? The stretching and hip-opening qualities sound like something I (and my sore legs!) am missing, but I don’t know where to start. help! thanks.

I could eat salad twice a day every day. Oh wait, I usually do!
Definitely pashminas and a nice structured jacket that you can wear with nice jeans and heels or with a dress if it gets chilly. I love pencil skirts for more casual interviews, but unfortunately I have had to buy some pret-ty formal suits for some of my job interviews. Hopefully that will all change someday when i break into hospitality PR, but for now, its a more corporate environment. Good luck, you will look great and be great!

i made the muffins over the weekend. Wh Wheat Blueberry. Quick question – the recipe says baking soda, but the directions say baking powder. I used b powder b/c the milk was the acid and thought that was right. they turned out well. Just checking on which it is? thanks!
