Be Nice To The Skin You’re In

Good morning bloggies!

Today makes the first day of my last week here! I can’t even believe it actually. It seems like JUST YESTERDAY when Ryan drove up to move me out of my apartment in Orlando and I was thinking that going away for the next three months would seem like an eternity. This week should be a fun week with Christie here and wrapping everything up at work. Tonight I have the annual employee Christmas party (to which Christie is my hot date for) and then the countdown begins!

This morning I noticed we were completely out of bananas so I created a different bowl of oaties:

Secret ingredient: grated apple!  I used 1/2 cup multigrain cereal cooked in 1/2 cup silk and 1/2 cup water and mixed with 1 spoonful ground flax, 1 grated red delicious apple, stevia, cinnamon and a big spoonful of hazelnut butter. It was pretty yummy!

Plans for the day include……nothing! I really don’t have anything to do today, which is nice. I’ve sort of felt like in the past few weeks I’ve been pushing myself too hard (I know my body!) and that’s why I got so sick two weeks ago….which I am STILL hacking and coughing away from. Looking back, I just don’t know if it was that necessary for me to work 8 hours on my feet lifting and carrying and racing around only to come home and race to go the gym for an hour and a half before coming home and crashing.  Getting sick made me think I need to be a little nicer to my body. I don’t ALWAYS have to be doing something active. Sometimes its just good to rest a little bit. Enter yoga. 🙂

I’m off to search for coffee. See you in a bit!

I was |thisclose| to putting apple in my oats today too!!! I didn’t b/c Matt put an egg on his and vetoed the apple, but that would have been really funny.

Have fun with yoga!! I can sense it becoming the newest blog world trend 🙂

I am jealous of your day. Doing nothing sounds PERFECT to me! However, I’m at work just waiting for 20 six year olds to walk into my classroom door in 15 minutes….My day will NOT be as relaxing as I would like it to be!

    Hi Jenna,

I completely agree with your insight regarding your level of activity. Like you, I am busy and on my feet for much of the day. That, coupled with daily runs, spinning, Pilates, etc., leave very room for actual *resting* aside from sleep. I came down with the flu this week, which really reminded me that I need to learn how to just give myself permission to do nothing every once and awhile! I’m still not up to ‘real’ exercise yet, save for gentle yoga and Pilates, and I’m realizing that taking a couple rest days here and there — maybe more than a couple, sometimes — is not going to negatively affect my overall fitness. Your body is telling you something when you get sick, and oftentimes, what it’s telling you is that you’re pushing yourself too hard. So, I definitely encourage you to embrace relaxing! You are a hard-working and driven person, and you certainly deserve taking time out for yourself.

Jenna, I’m so glad you realized that you may have been pushing yourself too hard! You often wrote about being exhausted after work but then still went to the gym. When you’re exhausted, ya gotta relax, girl! Have a great last week, especially because you get to spend it with your BFF!

    Jenna,
LOVE it! You are so wise at listening to your body. woohoo! I am all for more REST. In fact… my New Years Resolutions are to SIMPLIFY, REST more, and go dairy free! (that is for tummy reasons!) Enjoy your day off! and Yahoo for YOGA, baby!

    Hey Jenna,

Love the new header. Also you seem very happy lately which is awesome.

I’m glad you mentionned that you may have been pushing yourself too far. I work at a desk all day and I still often feel too exhausted for the gym after work, so I can imagine it would be way worse for someone like you that works on her feet. Take it easy when you need to for sure!

    Take Care,
    Sarah

I just finished my first Chris Bohjalian book this weekend! I wouldn’t have ever picked up one of his books, if you hadn’t mentioned him. Wow. I read Double Bind, and it was great! Thanks for introducing me a great new author!
    Also, love the new header!

    Hey Jenna,
Like Meghan, I’m also glad that you are taking a breather . I never wanted to comment on it, because it is your body and only you know how you feel and exercise is a healthy thing. But I also wondered why you would come home and write about being physically exhausted after hours on your feet, then bolt a little snack and race to the gym. I just think it’s awesome that you are listening to your body. And if your body says you really want to work out for an hour and half, you always have that option, right?
