Behind The Butter

Date Night (and Lightroom4 Winner!)

Last night Adam and I had such a wonderful date night that I wanted to share! I felt a little bad because I missed his birthday last week (but who could say no to a week filled with hot sauce and crawfish?) and we’ve been itching to test out our kayaks in the bay.

I packed us a little picnic dinner, grabbed some sweatshirts and away we paddled! I just stopped at Whole Foods to get dinner—I love how convenient their cold case of prepared salads is sometimes!

It’s kinda fuzzy (all photos are taken with iphone here!), but in that lunchbox we have sesame kale salad, california quinoa salad, jalapeno hummus, grilled chicken breast, watermelon and this amazing “southwestern salad shake” filled with beans, fresh salsa, quinoa, veggies and avocado dressing that was only $3.99!

How cool and convenient is that little salad cup?! It reminds me of something McDonald’s had in the late 90’s (maybe they still have it?!) but way healthier. Since coming home from Louisiana, I’ve been on a little bit of a “detox” because my body literally couldn’t take another ounce of spicy sausage, donut or fried catfish. This fit the bill!

We headed out onto the water around 6:30, after Adam got home from work and the sky was still a perfect blue…

And then very quickly, it turned to this….

And finally, this.

So awesome. It got chilly pretty quick once the sun set though! I am so grateful to live in such a beautiful, beautiful place.

We got back in around 8pm, ate vegan chocolate cupcakes (yes, vegan cupcakes were part of the “detox”) and happily skipped hand in hand over to the movie theater for the opening night of The Lucky One. It was date night, afterall!

And by “happily skipped hand in hand”, I clearly mean I dragged Adam into the truck, down the street and into the movie theater for 90 minutes of pure Zac Efron. He was SO excited!!!!!!

The End.

The winner of the Lightroom4 Giveaway is Anna, comment number 496!!!!! Congratulations, Anna! Please email me at jenna {at} eatliverun.com to claim your prize!

P.S. —-Purely my opinion alone (well, and Adam’s….) but we ended up really disliking the movie. Sad, I know! I loved the book but……..let’s just say good ol’ Zac is better left a model than an actor if you catch my drift. It was sort of hard to even sit through, and I never say that about Nicholas Sparks’ movies! So if you have The Lucky One on your radar this weekend, do yourself a favor and grab some tissues, ice cream and watch Dear John for the 5th (or 55th) time instead with your cat.

You’ll thank me later.

Lovely pictures… Each time, I feel like I cam enjoy some of this from across the ocean!
Read the book too, but decided against the movie after seeing the trailer (Beth looks 30 years older than Logan! How can he seem manly and mysterious ???)
Never saw dear John though, too scared of breaking out the tissue box. But I’ll rent it for tonight, if it’s that good!

Fun date night! But bummer that you didn’t like the movie. I didn’t even have the desire to see it, which isn’t normal for me … usually I’m all about chick flicks. 😉

Your comment about The Lucky One at the end of your post literally made me laugh out loud! That was so funny! I’m digging these posts lately about your life, and what you’re up to… Reminds me of the old Eat Live Run!

PS: Not that it’s related to this post, but I made your “Best Pizza Dough” the other night for an “at home” date night with my wife, and it was the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth! I’ll never buy a dough from our bakery again!

I got those shaker mcdonalds salads all the time growing up eek! That looks tastier though. I’m planning to get a kayak for this summer and this just got me psyched!

What an awesome date night! California looks amazing. 🙂 I had not planned on seeing The Lucky One until it comes out on Netflix (maybe) since going to the movies costs an arm & a leg these days. (Or we’re just too frugal!)

That is seriously my dream date right there! Well, maybe I’d see a better movie. Have you seen “Me & Orson Welles” though? I thought Zac Efron was pretty good in that.

Not much of a Nicholas Sparks fan myself, but as far as the movies go…I will just stick to the Notebook….

seems like a perfect night for kayaking on the bay! I think it was unusually warm last night…at least it was in Santa Rosa, though of course the weather can be dramatically different on the bay.

I liked Dear John but even found that kind of depressing after the 3rd time watching it 😉 Love is too hard. That last picture of you guys is too cute! Young and fresh-faced. Do you live very close to the water?

Daggers are the best kayaks! My parents have 2 and I love borrowing them. I’ve never gone out in the bay though. I usually stick to the river and lakes.

Too bad about Lucky One, since he’s such eye candy I’ll probably watch it anyway.

What an awesome date night and that’s sweet of you for wanting to make up a missed birthday…and what a great idea to go kayaking and have a picnic. The sky as the sun is setting, there is one pic with a pink/lavender horizon, how pretty!

I can’t wait to try that shaker salad!!
Ohh, I so disagree about the movie. Zac was the only redeeming thing about it. he was supposed to be that stoic, and yet he conveyed a lot with his eyes. But, I don’t enjoy Nicholas Sparks on a whole. His writing it contrived, convuluted and manipulative, just plain bad, in my opinion. It’s formulatic. I know a lot of women enjoy his stuff, but I think he can do so much better!

What a FUN date night. The weather in the bay right now is gorgeous so that was the perfect night for kayaking and it’s a great arm workout!! Too bad about The Lucky One. I am supposed to see it with a gf next week but perhaps we’ll see something else and save it for rental…

Nothing is more pretty than a sunset over the water especially when you are in a kayak and have the gentle sway of the water underneath you.

I love Whole Foods Shaker Salads! And yes, I do remember them from McDonald’s. I would get them all the time. If I remember right, it was mostly iceberg lettuce and cheese! Thank you Whole Foods for redeeming the Shaker Salad!

I love kayaking! Every year for my birthday I like to go to the San Juan Islands off the coast in Washington state, and this past year we went ocean kayaking! IT was glorious. Your date night sounded lovely…but now I also have a hankering for some Whole Foods!

Fun post! I miss your “life” and “daily food” posts from original Eat Live Run days, so this was a treat. I still enjoy your blog, but I don’t enjoy cooking or baking and just miss the more personal format. No criticism, just a comment!

Admittedly I am so envious… your lifestyle is in some respects very much the one I wish to be living. I was just commenting to my mom on skype last night that all I really want in life is a kayak and a vehicle that I can transport my kayak with (I suppose water nearby would be helpful too)! And a whole foods closer than 8 hours away. Keep living the dream, my dear <3

I bought the Lucky One book like two years ago because I really wanted to read it, but never got around to it, since I always have a stack of books to read, haha. Maybe I will dust that one off & get some reading in this week (: I like Zac Efron, but I am doubting I will like the movie too ..

ok, this is very random and has nothing to do with your date night – but I’ve been reading the blog for awhile now, and this is the first picture of Adam that I’ve seen. I just realized that I went to college with him! We were in a group called MSC LEAD, anyway, Hi Adam! I’m not sure if he would even remember me, my maiden name is Smith.

Such great photos. We are going to buy a couple of Kayaks, since we live 5 minutes from Lake Mead , but I could never kayak on the ocean, I have a fear of sharks, especially Great Whites 😉 haha!

We just aren’t sure as to what brand of Kayak we should get. My husband is doing his research.
