Fig-licious

Hey!

Quick post because I’m off to work Winter Wineland all day at Michel Schlumberger but wanted to give y’all a recap of my yummy dinner last night. Well, first of all I snacked on a delicious Trader Joe’s peanut butter granola bar while writing away:

And then we ended up going to one of my very favorite restaurants, Girl and the Fig for dinner! Last time I was here was when Tina, Kath, Meghann and Beth were in town last Fall and I was so excited to go back. 🙂 The restaurant is all the way in the town of Sonoma, so sort of a hike, but totally worth it.

We ordered cheese to start!

The cheese was good but not exactly my style. I prefer more of a soft goats milk style cheese. These were all pretty firm and the blue cheese was SUPER stinky! I liked that it came with apples and cranberries though. That was my favorite part 🙂

For my entree, I ordered the grilled salmon. I heart salmon so much and don’t eat it nearly enough. I should have taken a picture of my date’s dinner because he ordered this scallop and pork belly dish that was quite amazing. California = pork belly.

For some reason both of us were still hungry after we finished our dinners so dessert it was. Chocolate creme brulee! Unfortunately it escaped the camera’s eye, as it was inhaled in about 6 seconds flat.

This morning I was craving a cold bowl of cereal for some reason and dug into the Kashi Go Lean:

I had this X 2 🙂 Plus an orange.

Time to get to work! Enjoy your Saturday!

That salmon looks delicious! I made some last night but it came out awful because it was not properly thawed. I can’t wait till the Summer and we can start grilling around here again

Chocolate Creme Brulee!? Yum!! Isn’t it funny how you can eat hot oatmeal day after day and then wake up knowing you HAVE to have cold cereal? It just hits the spot 🙂

I just saw a special about that restaurant on the Food Network. Williams (of Williams and Sonoma) was there and they were talking about his visit to the restaurant. I would love to try it some day!

I wish I could eat more salmon, too. It just costs so much more than chicken for a regular weeknight meal. I had some cold cereal and an orange today too. I love citrus this time of year. It’s freezing where I live, so it sort of makes me feel a little less wintry!

Salmon is one of the fish cravings I get. I gave up all sea food a while back. (Actually after visiting some mangroves that were being harvested for charcole and then made into commercial shrimp farm – it completely destroys the fish nurseries and errods the shore then becomes a silty muddy infertile mess in about five years.) I remember how delicious salmon is.

That salmon looks scrumptious. I know what you mean, I absolutely love salmon but eat it rarely due to it being pretty expensive (if you get the wild, natural good stuff). Your entire dinner looks beautiful. Thank you for not showing the chocolate creme brulee, because I’m pretty sure the sight of it would cause me to go on a chocolate raid in my kitchen. 🙂

Have fun at the winery today, Jenna!

that food looks great! i think you mis-took my comment yesterday about the fact that you eat out so much. i literally was just curious how you afford that? i’ve been reading your blog for awhile and since you moved to cali, it seems you eat atleast one meal per day out somewhere. all of the food always looks good, but i would be broke! i was really just asking how you can afford to do that!

This post made my day! I just made a reservation for my moms birthday at girl & fig at the recommendation of a co-worker. I haven’t been to CA in years and never to wine country; I’m thrilled your meal looks fabulous! Any other recommendations for things to do in that area? Thanks in advance to anyone who has suggestions!
