Behind The Butter

Five Things About Me

1. I really do wear my yoga pants all day…every day. Therefore, I’m really not exaggerating when I say “I live in my black stretchy pants” because it’s totally true. Do you know how awkward it is to walk around with a flour hand-print on your butt?

2. I drink Genmaicha (Japanese green tea with roasted brown rice) all day long. I buy it in bulk from the Asian grocery market in town and brew big pots at a time so I have enough to drink hot and chill in the fridge for later. Just the smell of it is comforting to me.

3. I spray my sheets with lavender linen spray and I always take it with me when I travel so that my hotel bed feels more like home.

4. Since living in California, I’ve become a full-fledged coffee SNOB! It’s true. Wine? Not so much…I’ll drink whatever is put in front of me. But coffee? I buy the best beans I can find (local, please!), grind them myself and crank out rich, dark cups from my little French press.Β I then proceed to ruin my perfect cup of coffee with lots of caramel flavored creamer. It’s a bad habit that I have no intention of ever breaking. Right now, my current coffee love is Ecco Caffe.

5. Every day I eat a toasted Trader Joe’s sprouted wheat cinnamon raisin bagel with whipped cream cheese and raspberry jam for breakfast. It never ever gets old.

I LOVE genmaicha! Roasted rice is one of my favorite flavors ever. It’s so soothing and comforting.
Would you believe I’ve never owned a pair of yoga pants?! Never even tried one on. Yup… I’ll have to jump on the bandwagon at some point, though.

    Hi Jenna!

I’m turning into a coffee snob myself now that I’ve lived in NYC for over a year. I have two questions about coffee..I trust your advice on this because your coffee always looks so delicious!

    1) I have a regular ol’ mr.coffee 5-cup maker because that’s all that will fit in my tiny nyc kitchen! Do you think it matters what brand of coffee maker for the quality or more about the beans? Does a $100 Krups maker make a difference?
    2) Also, I like to buy fresh coffee at the grocery store because I dont have a grinder, but it always goes bad after a week! Do you think the key to great tasting coffee is griding the beans yourself the night before/morning you’re making coffee?

Sorry for the novel of a question!

    • jenna
      April 11, 2012 at 12:18 pm

Hmmm I don’t think so, really, but my favorite coffee maker is my $30 French press. I adore it and think it ‘s makes the best cups of coffee around.

And yes to the coffee going bad…get yourself a cute little airtight coffee canister (I got mine at TJ Maxx) and keep your coffee in it at room temperature. I buy coffee once every two weeks and it seems to work for me. I don’t have a grinder so I just get it ground at the coffee shop or grocery store then put it in my airtight canister.
