Breakfast/ Lunch/ Product Reviews

Grrrrr

customernumbert

This is me being hard core. I’m like “MOVE OUT OF MY WAY NOW!!!!!”

Hahahahahaha love it. How are yall doing today? Tomorrow is Friday!!! Unfortunately, I have had horrible cramps (yucky) all day long and actually left work an hour early because of them! Oh, how amazing something like a hot stone massage would feel right now. Sigh.

I did have the pleasure though of trying a new bar this morning for an early snack!

img_5286

Ingredients include: dates, agave nectar, apples, raisins, cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, raw cacao nibs, walnuts, brown rice protein and sea salt.

Each bar has 11 grams of fat, 200 calories and 6 grams of protein.

I was very impressed with this bar! I especially LOVED the crunch of the cacoa nibs (the “chocolate chips”) and almonds! I also love that this has brown rice protein in it, because that’s one strike against larabars….no protein! They taste good but don’t keep you full. I had this bar at 3:40 this morning and was fine until breakfast at 8:00. No snacking! Now THAT’S the ultimate test! These bars seem very hard to find but are readily available on amazon in all flavors.

Breakfast was more blended oatmeal with 3/4 cup oats, 1/2 cup silk light vanilla, 1 cup water and 1/2 scoop chocolate protein. I was sort of upset though because I added a “secret ingredient”—

img_5284

But I couldn’t taste the five or so chocolate chips I put in! 🙁 Also, I added too much liquid and my oats turned out to be on the soupy side, which was a little blah this morning. See how the big scoop of almond butter sinks??!

Like I said, I left work an hour early today because I just feel under the weather. No other reason besides hormones but still….a girl has gotta milk that excuse as much as she can sometimes! Lunch was weird because we have ZERO groceries in the house (but my mom is at the store right now, never fear!!). All I was craving was a smoothie with bananas but no bananas….then I thought maybe hummus…but no hummus……FINALLY, I just dug this out of the freezer in desperation:

img_5288

I have always been impressed with Quorn products and love that they are soy-free! Not that I am against eating soy, but I try to stay away from the super processed kind. These little “chicken fingers” are actually made from mushrooms and have 11 grams of protein per four piece serving! Plus, they taste and have the texture of a real chicken nugget.

I had four of them with ketchup, celery (the only veggie I could find) and a yogurt

img_5289

I was still pretty hungry though so for “dessert”, I had a date with almond butter

img_5290

Which was SO delicious that I had another! Seriously, dates and nut butter are a match made in heaven!

The whole day at work I was very blah and all I wanted to do when I got home was lay down……but, I think that a little exercise will help me feel better so I’m going to head out for another 40 minute cardio bike ride in a few minutes. Exercise usually helps alleviate cramps and it is so pretty outside. I think I’m going to take my camelbak, too, because last time I got so thirsty!

See you for dinner!

Jenna, what kind of dates do you buy? Are there fresh ones or in the bulk like at Fresh Market (do you have those stores?) or packaged? I’ve never bought them, so I need to know what to look for:) Feel better!

Isn’t it so amazing how much natural sweetness dates have?!? I love them. Try sticking a roasted, salted almond in one – SUCH a good combo.

I’m with you on dates being addictive! For boat events I make them stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in turkey bacon. YUM!

Those PURE bars are great! Our wee little health store had them BOGOF this week so I loaded up!

Thats a great race pic, shows your determination. Here’s hoping the cramps are waning and you bounce back quick!

    Great race photo, you’re floating!
I’ve always been a little afraid of fake chicken products but these look good I’ll have to take a look for them at the store. I’ve loved eating no meat it’s been just over a week for me now, it’s pretty easy but I do miss chicken, great sub for lent.

Hey Jenna, I have a random question for you (and anyone else who’d like to chime in!) I remember you mentioning once on your blog that you used to have a roommate that you had a difficult relationship with regarding health and food…I can’t remember the details, something about how in retrospect, you think you two kind of tried to sabotage each other? Sorry if that isn’t correct. I bring it up because I am dealing with a similar situation with my current roomie – she is a very thin girl (as in 5’2″ and 105 pounds at most), who has been a dancer her whole life (thus doesn’t partake in “regular” working out), but constantly complains about her body image. I know that it isn’t my responsibility to reassure her that she looks great, and I know I can’t change her own personal image of herself. But I’m wondering if you, or anyone else, has any advice regarding my responses to her? After comments like, “eating carrots and guac for lunch, yay for getting skinny again!” or “i’ll stop eating if i have to in order to get the stomach i want”…I just literally don’t know what to say to her, so I usually resort to, “oh ok” or “that’s good” or “well just be healthy about it,” etc.

Again, I realize that a lot of this is her problem — not mine. But I find that living with someone and hearing this kind of crap gets on my nerves and sometimes even makes me feel bad about myself – and I’ve worked hard to make peace with my body! Any thoughts?

    Thanks for reading!

    Jenna-
Oooh Dates and nut butter is my favorite combo! Have you tried warming up the date first for a couple of seconds in the microwave and then adding nut butter? It is SO GOOD! Another thing I like to do is put a piece of date in between 2 small slices of banana with some nut butter spread on the middle, that is another good combo!

You look like a serious runner in that pic! Way to go! You look strong and fast!

Great race photo Jenna! I am sorry that you weren’t feeling well today, cramps are the worst! They make it to where you feel like you can’t be productive at all! I have been looking for those Pure bars everywhere! Maybe I just need to make a 20 min drive to the whole foods near my house and hope that they are worth it!

eek, you have inspired me to run my first 5k…which is tomorrow!! I am totally not a runner- as in, I used to beg to get out of gym class. But I’ve been training and somehow built up to a 5k 🙂

I have been reading and memorizing verses like crazy because I think im just going to repeat them in my head the whole time 🙂 the Lord is my strength!

    Thanks for sharing your experience!
