Happy Easter, friends!!
I truly LOVE this holiday. Let’s take a brief tour down memory lane of LAST Easter, just for kicks.
I can’t believe another year has gone by…..crazy! I was just joking with my mom and Ryan the other day that this was the first birthday I wasn’t looking forward to because as of June 11th, I will officially be in my MID TWENTIES!!!!!!! Gahhhhhh! Ryan gave me the evil eye and huffed away. Haha 😉 It was also a year ago this weekend that I adopted Dexter, our furry child!
I recently told Ryan it might be time to get Dexter a little friend but the idea was vetoed. Our next pet will definitely be a puppy but it will come in time. I want one SO BADLY right now but I know it doesn’t make logical sense when we don’t even live together yet. We already have a name picked out and everything though! 😉
Anyways, unfortunately I went to sleep last night AND woke up this morning with a MIGRAINE! I have not had a migraine in months and don’t know what brought it on. There’s some factors that might have played in though: sudden lack of caffeine, not enough protein yesterday, wine, stress…….I don’t know. I went to sleep with a cold pack on my head and thought it might go away but this morning when I got up at 5:30, it was still quite bad. So, I had to pop 2 excedrin migraine (I HATE to do this) and hope for the best. I wanted to get something light in my tummy when I took the pills so I had half a naner with almond butter:
And then I began my Easter morning with a 30 minute compassionate yoga practice dedicated to the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us. I followed along with Yoga Download’s Power Yoga #4 donation only class, which focuses intensely on universal love and compassion. I love this yoga class because it is so focused and slow. Dawnelle, the instructor, leads us through a seated meditation on compassion and I used that time to pray and meditate on God’s love and sacrifice for us and how we, in turn, must be living examples of universal love and compassion to the world. Very inspiring and beautiful, and got rid of my migraine asap! 🙂 This was the absolute perfect way to begin my Easter morning.
After my practice, I made some breakfast. Oats, obviously!
This combo was velvety smooth and consisted of:
- 1/2 cup oats + 1/2 cup almond milk + 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup liquid egg whites
- 1/2 banana
- cinnamon and sea salt
- last scoop of almond butter
- pure maple syrup
I have never used egg whites actually IN my oatmeal before and did so today for an extra boost of protein since I am out of protein powder and my new stuff should be here in a few days. I have to say I really actually liked the addition though! I added the egg whites when I was cooking the oats on the stove and it made the oats super creamy and smooth. I couldn’t taste any “eggy-ness” at all and the bowl was very filling. I don’t think I will do this too much in the future though since I make my oats usually at work and don’t want to lug the container of egg whites with me every morning in my lunchbox. It was yummy though today!
Enjoy your Easter morning and I will see you for lunch!

April 12, 2009 at 6:05 amHi Jenna, love your blog, but it sucks that you get so many migraines. I used to get migraines 5 days a week and basically slept through high school and my first two years of college because I was always in so much pain. I know yours may be triggered by foods, but I just wanted to give you another idea to check out because I hate to hear other people suffering the way I did. Have you ever had your vitamin levels checked? My b-12 and folate levels were so low the bloodwork actually came back with a warning that these levels cause depression! Scary! I got one b-12 shot and took 3 months of a folic acid/b-12 combo, and turned to a whole foods lifestyle and I haven’t had a migraine in four years! Every morning I thank god that I have another pain free day because living for 8 years like that was a nightmare and I didn’t know if I could keep on going. Anyways, I hope you feel better!!!

April 12, 2009 at 6:28 amHappy Easter! I got a dog after having a cat for a few years. It’s taken 6 months, but she’s finally starting to get used to him. But I don’t think she’ll ever be quite the same. At least she figured out that the dog is too stupid and friendly to hurt her – he just wants to sniff her rear all the time. But I have heard that if you bring a second cat into the household, a lot of cats will never ever forgive you. A dog is something they can handle.
Glad your migraine got better and here’s to hoping that it stays gone!

April 12, 2009 at 7:16 amWhen I gave up coffee I had a week of intense headaches(but I used to drink espresso, double americano’s!!)
I have been off coffee 2 years, miss it, but have replaced it with about 3 cups of gunpowder green tea a day.So I do get some caffeine in there, but not as much ,and the awesome thing is if I skip my tea one days there are no headaches!
I used to have to have my “hit” of coffee to get through day.
I thought I would save money, but I spend quite a bit buying my looseleaf Twinings gunpowder green for breakfast and bags of Numi Temple of Heaven gunpowder green for work.(my fave kinds!)
Best wishes re migraine, my guess is that the caffeine withdrawal may be connected…
Happ Easter Jenna!

April 12, 2009 at 10:35 amHey girl!!
Sorry to hear about your migraines. I have a similar aversion to taking meds. I don’t like to a lot of the time but I know if I do, I’ll end up feeling better. I hope your easter is tons of fun!!!!

April 12, 2009 at 3:41 pmAMEN!
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you sill see him.’ Now I have told you.” -Matthew 28:5-7

April 12, 2009 at 9:04 pmHi! I found your site through Kath Eats Real Food … I just wanted to say your cat is gorgeous! We have two black cats we adopted at the same time. I’m finding more and more people who have black cats and it makes me SOOO happy! (Our shelter says black cats are very hard to adopt out.)
I get migraines too. I’ve cut out soda and switched to tea (which has very little caffeine). That has seemed to help a lot. I know how you feel about the Excedrin Migraine pills – I have battled with them for years! My doc prescribed Maxalt, which seems to be my best option right now. I’m hoping that as I transition to eating more whole foods that my frequency of migraines lessens.
Good luck!
Kristin
April 13, 2009 at 9:30 amHow funny that I did the exact same yoga download yesterday morning and even thought to myself how “coincidental” it was that I was focusing on universal love on Easter Sunday…
