Hey guys!
I’m a bad blogger and am just posting for the first time today at 4:30 in the afternoon! However, I DID post last night at 1 a.m. so that should make up for it. 😉
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
It doesn’t seem like Halloween to me….maybe it’s because I’m on my own and far from home…or not in school anymore…I’m not sure. Halloween was always so much fun when I was in college (we would go to, like, 5 Halloween parties wearing different costumes for each) and now I just feel OLD! Boo!
Anyways, I celebrated by having pumpkin oat bran this morning
I used 1/2 cup oat bran, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup pumpkin, almond butter and jelly! 🙂
Oh, and just to clarify—I did NOT eat a raw sweet potato yesterday!!!!! I just took the picture before I stuck it in the microwave to cook it. I got a kick out of reading everyone’s concerned comments…
I also had coffee—
And SuperFood! 🙂
Ran a quick errand for work and then set out on the daily adventure…..destination: Nordstroms. However, I got incredibly lost and ended up (how ironic) at Whole Foods down in Marin county. It just so happened it was 12:30 and I was starving so, like a starving lost child, I made my way into the store and filled up on the salad bar!!!
Just seeing that gorgeous picture makes me want to eat it again!!! There was a mix of salads with beans, hummus, feta cheese and veggies. SO good.
Plus, crack.
Double crack (literally….this was a tall nonfat mocha with 2 shots of espresso)
Thank you, Patrick!!! My friend sent me a Starbucks gift card in an aaaamazing care package and I put it to good use. Now I am caffeinated and ready to conquer Halloween.
So, I did finally find the shopping center that I was searching for. I got two tops from banana republic because they were both on sale from $60 to $13, if you can believe that. I’m a huge discount shopping (hello, Ross and tj maxx!) and have nooo winter clothes so I’m trying to slowly but surely build my cold weather closet up in time for winter.

I’m not sure what’s on tap for tonight. I honestly just remembered to buy candy…like 30 minutes ago. I know a lot of you are probably thinking of healthy trick or treat ideas but hey…it’s one day out of the year. I stick with the traditional gummi bears and mini chocolate bars. It’s crazy! 😉 There’s a good chance I may just end up staying home and handing out candy but there’s also a chance of going out to dinner at Dry Creek Kitchen. Who knows. I’ll keep you posted!

October 31, 2009 at 5:13 pmHaha, people thought you ate raw sweet potato? I like mine a little chewy, but it takes at least 4 minutes in the microwave to even get edible

October 31, 2009 at 5:24 pmI love all the fun-size candies available around Halloween… and I know some people will disagree, but most tiny trick or treaters coming to the door would prefer a Reese’s Pieces over apple slices any day (even if it’s not actually nutritious).
Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2009 at 5:31 pmWhole Foods salad bar – welcome home! All the work has been done for you … it’s a nice option.
You have a great life – enjoy!

October 31, 2009 at 5:39 pmI am a HUGE discount shopper too. I was shopping yesterday and honestly wont pay more then 10 bucks on a shirt….my boyfriend just rolls his eyes..he is quite the opposite. I am right in the same boat for the night. Low key for sure!

October 31, 2009 at 5:44 pmThe Whole Foods salad bar is evil!! But yet somehow healthy and nutritious at the same time – bizarre! 🙂 I love it – just wish it was cheaper (though then I would be there all the time!).
Niki – I am the same as you and my husband HATES it. He just wants me to go out and buy some clothes!! 🙂

October 31, 2009 at 5:50 pmI love finding bargains like that! One of my favorite tops was marked down like that at BR. I know what you mean about stocking up on winter clothes – I live in Ohio and I’m having to restock on winter clothing :O. The Boy and I remembered to buy candy this morning, I think it’s okay to buy it late 🙂

October 31, 2009 at 5:53 pmOK, I just have to say THIS about THAT! I don’t know what TJ Maxx and Ross are…but…did discover Marshall’s. I have been little ‘Ms. Chanel’ known for style/designer/classy dresser, etc. And my multi-millionaire friend with INCREDIBLE beachfront home…even more. She introduced me to Marshall’s. You must dig through a world of ‘not-so-much’ to find Ralph Lauren, etc. for $5.00!!! But BELIEVE ME….great stuff IS THERE. Hopefully it wasn’t just that particular store. I had an ‘off-price’ bargain-hunter’s blast and found fantastic designer-y goods. The secret, I think, is mixing low-cost classics with one or a couple of off-price stuff. Anyway…lots of fun. Brings out that Hunter-Gatherer primordial stuff!!

October 31, 2009 at 6:02 pmhey Jenna! when you say you used a half cup of pumpkin in your breakfast — is that cooked, canned pumpkin? or do you cook pumpkin? and if so, how? Thanks!

October 31, 2009 at 6:12 pmHalloween isn’t the same anymore for us either because we actually have our work Christmas party the same weekend since we are super crazy busy during the actual christmas season.

October 31, 2009 at 6:15 pmI still have to try pumpkin in oats – I was wondering the same thing that someone else asked – is it just pumpkin straight from a can? And do you use a specific amount of almond butter?
Also, this SuperFoods…what’s it like? I’ve been seeing that, Amazing Grass Greens and Vega around alot.

October 31, 2009 at 6:27 pmShopping off the sales rack is one of my favorite things in the world. Give me and old navy and a sale and I’ll be the happiest girl ever! 🙂

October 31, 2009 at 7:13 pmThere were a few years in between when Halloween seemed not so fun, then, enter the children! As in, having kids! Trust me, it becomes a pretty important day again! My kids were beyond excited today and I agree, it’s a day for good old fashioned sugar! Our family ate all whole foods up until about 5:00 today and then I hate to guess at how much sugar and artificial ingredients we have consumed! All in the name of Halloween! Awesome to see the excitement from a kid’s perspective!
Oh, and a double shot!! I wouldn’t be sleeping for days!

October 31, 2009 at 8:02 pmMmm…your salad looks AWESOME!
I agree – Halloween’s not as fun as a grown-up! I want to go trick-or-treating again!

October 31, 2009 at 8:26 pmI was too afraid to comment about the potato for fear of sounding silly, but when I saw that in your post I was like “OMG that girl’s stomach is made of steel!!!!”

October 31, 2009 at 8:52 pmMmmm two of my favorite things: Synergy Kombucha and Amazing Grass! Yummmm! I just bought oat bran and I am going to try it out for the first time tomorrow. I like my oatmeal not as chewy so I think this will be perfect for me! Can’t wait. Hope you had a fabulous Halloween! 🙂

November 1, 2009 at 2:20 amYep, I don’t really have winter clothes either. Losing 60 pounds will do that. Nothing fits and even if it did… it’s just not me anymore.
I hope you had a great evening, no matter what you ended up doing. 🙂

November 1, 2009 at 4:20 amI love to shop, especially for bargains so any excuse to buy clothes is a good one! I hope you had a great Halloween!

November 1, 2009 at 5:09 amYay shopping!! I work at Banana Republic! Did anybody tell you that all of the sale stuff was buy two, get one free yesterday? Maybe it was just in NY. I almost buy the whole store every time I go to work! 🙂

November 1, 2009 at 5:53 amThis is my first Halloween feeling old too!! Although, handing out candy does sound like fun 🙂
Quick question – do you just mix your amazing grass with water? I won some in a giveaway and I’m having trouble finding things to do with it. Big smoothies generally don’t satisfy my hunger beast.

November 1, 2009 at 6:10 amI had a very similar salad from Whole Foods yesterday! Love those giant lima beans 🙂
Just wondering – How is oat bran different from oatmeal – taste, nutrition, etc?

November 1, 2009 at 7:06 amOoooo yummy lookin’ salad! Love to switch up from traditional oats to oatbran every once in a while, so creamy and good 🙂
