Here Comes The Sun

Good Morning!

This hot Tuesday morning began like all others. I had my morning snack of half a banana with pb and went to the gym for 20 minutes of cardio. When I came back I tried my new granola—Cascadian Farm Organics. Meh. I wasn’t too impressed. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever had. I’m quite picky on my cereals if you can’t tell! This tasted very sweet and was hard to crunch into. I still think Nature’s Path granolas (FlaxPlus) is the best out there! I will be eating this because I don’t want to waste food, but I don’t think I would ever buy it again.  Has anyone else tried this?? I also had some hot tea but I promptly spilled it all over my bedroom carpet. Hope that’s not a foreshadow of how this day will go!

For lunch, I’m packing leftovers from dinner the other night at home. My mom sent me back with my uneaten sweet potato and some sweet and spicy bbq beans. Perfect to heat up at work! I also brought a bag of cherries for dessert and some honey wheat pretzels with walnuts for a snack later.

Those pretzels are REALLY good with PB… just sayin’

I want to try the Flax Plus cereal. I keep almost buying it and then changing my mind, but sounds like it’s worth a shot!

    Hey Jenna,

Last night you mentioned the snacks in this month’s Shape. I was wondering which ones you might recommend. Some of them didn’t actually seem too healthy, and I always like your natural take on treats. TYVM 🙂

    Jenna,
Do you like the FlaxPlus granola better than the Peanut Butter kind?
    Thanks!

    Attn: Bookies!

Has anyone read the Kite Runner or Lauren Wiesnenbergers new novel Chasing Harry Winston? I tend to read more chick lit but I keep hearing good things about the Kite Runner. I’m just not sure if I will like it or not. I know Lauren’s book is brand new so I was wondering if anyone has read it yet. I’m going to the Cayman Islands pretty soon and want to have my arsenal of books! Any other good ones?

The Kite Runner is great but pretty heavy. Maybe not a beach read. I like pretty heavy books, but Water for Elephants is great!!

I pretty much prefer Nature’s Path granola over the others. Some of them are totally way too sweet!!

I’ve been eying those pretzels for a while now.. let me know how you like them jenna!

And sorry your granola wasn’t as good as you had hoped. I feel the same way; whenever I try another brand of granola, it pales in comparison to Nature’s Path! They’re just unbeatable.

    Have a great day!!

I havent had that granola before but i have found that sometimes when I buy granola that I dont like to eat with milk it is really good with yogurt. (and even better if you make it before the gym so that it has alittle time to soak in). Since you have to eat it again eventually maybe that will help you evjoy it alittle better. 🙂

Kelly- I read Kite Runner last year. Although it is beautifully written. It is a tough book to get through. It has a good message but some pretty disturbing parts so if you are going to read it be prepared.

Melissa I totally agree. Looking through my shape magazine I was really disappointed in the snacks they reccommended they had tons of artificial sweeteners and empty calories. It was kind of disappointing.

Jenna, those pretzels are the absolute best. What a great snack! When I buy them though, I have trouble not snacking on them any time I am in the house. Enjoy!

What if you mixed the cereal with another, less sweet cereal? Or maybe sprinkled it on greek yoghurt and fruit like a parfait?

    Hey Jenna,

Just curious. I thought you were a vegan but when I was going back on your blog, I thought I saw some roasted chicken stuff.. I was just curious are you a vegan, since when?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jenna,

Although I am new to your blog, you have put up very nice information.

It’s interesting to know your thoughts regarding your eating options. But I would like to add that it also depends upon likings of individual.

Jenna, just wondering if you’ve noticed any major differences (in the way you feel, exercise, look, energy levels, etc.) since you’ve cut out dairy and become vegetarian. After being vegetarian for years, I recently adopted a vegan diet, and my allergies (coughing/sneezing) have eased up quite a bit… plus I have been feeling much more energetic when I run! And I think my skin is improving. Just curious what you’ve noticed! Keep up the great work on the blog!

    Melissa,

haha I just glanced back at the snacks and, really, the only ones I recommend (that I would eat myself) are the kashi crackers and the guacamole. I need to find that guac! What a great idea for a single serving packet. I was not impressed AT ALL with the other snacks. Single servings of Hostess cakes??!! EW!!!!

    Meg,

I’m a peanut butter girl but can never find it at the store! 🙁

    Kelly L,

The Kite Runner changed me life…………AMAZING. So is his next book (I can’t remember the name)—it was so good I read the entire book on my flight back from France last summer. I sat in my seat and bawled like a baby. Read it tonight!

    Ozlem,

I’m not a vegan. I still eat fish and other seafood and consume products with honey. I transitioned into a comfortable eating state for me since the time I’ve had this blog set up and that does not include chicken, pork, lamb, beef or dairy. I consume some animal products, I suppose, because I taste everything I make at school, but I don’t buy them and I don’t cook or prepare them for myself anymore. I discovered in the last year that I am lactoseintolerant and eating this way just makes me feel my best.

    V,

I have less headaches, less tummy cramps (probably from lactose) and just feel better all the way around. I’ve gained three pounds over the last couple months but I attribute that to culinary school!!! haha 🙂 Overall, I’m in a very happy state right now and like the way my body looks and feels.
