Breakfast/ Exercise/ Fitness/ Lunch

Indulgent

Hi friends!

We’ve had pretty much the best Sunday ever so far, how bout you? It involved exercise, tons of food and shopping—what could be better??!

I slept in till 8 this morning and then quickly had a snack so I could get a great workout in before brunch with Meghann, Derek and Ryan! I had a piece of Ezekiel toast with a thick smear of TJ’s pb + preserves-

img_1294

And then I hit the gym! Ryan met me up there after 25 minutes…he’s a bit of a slow poke in the morning’!

Here’s what I did:

  • 30 minutes speed walking on an incline (13% incline, 3.8 speed)—this KILLS!!!
  • 1 set of 10 walking push-ups…jillian style!
  • 2 sets of seated row, 50 lbs, 15 reps each set
  • 2 sets of chest press, 40 lbs, 15 reps each set
  • 2 sets of lat raises, 5 lbs, 15 reps each set
  • 3 sets of crunches on the stability ball, 25 reps per set

It was a great and super intense workout that left me feeling much better! I was feelin’ a bit slow after all that pizza and bbq last night. I LOVE eating out at restaurants. Like, love love love LOVE eating out, but I always am glad to get back to my normal routine after its all over. Dining out, to me, is one of most pleasurable things in life and something I will always treat myself to. Its very sad to me when I hear about girls that are literally “scared” to eat out because they can’t control the calories in their meal. You have to learn to LIVE a little bit, friends! Enjoy a great meal with wonderful company. Life is way too short not to!

When I got home from the gym I drank some Grass!

img_1295

Berry flavored SuperFood in ice water. Mmmmmmm

And then we quickly hurried to shower and get ready to go meet Meghann and Derek at Jackson’s for brunch! Jackson’s is, in my opinion, the best spot for brunch in the ENTIRE WORLD. Yes, that is a very bold statement but it just is fabulous. Its definitely a treat for us but the last time we went was two years ago so we figured we were due. You can pretty much get anything you could ever desire in the Jackson’s buffet. Seriously! They have an omelet station, a carving station, a stir-fry station, waffles, eggs benedict, french toast, donuts, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sushi, veggies, fruit, rice…….anything!!! Plus, it is in a great location on the water looking out over downtown. Perfection in every sense.

Here we all are!

Ryan and I:

Meghann in awe of the buffet—

img_1298

When you go to Jackson’s you KNOW you are going to eat a whole lot. In my mind, I was eating breakfast AND lunch so I didn’t feel bad in the slightest bit loading up my plates!

My first plate of of an egg white omelet covered in salsa (with onions, bell peppers and mushrooms–no cheese), fruit and a mini waffle with pure maple syrup & banana foster topping:

img_1297

Second plate of another mini waffle (this time with strawberry topping), seaweed salad sushi rolls, smoked salmon, more fruit and cheese:

img_1300

After (I couldn’t finish it all!):

img_1301

And then, obviously, the dessert course!!! They had a whole “dessert bar” set up and I couldn’t help but try something….or two…

img_1308

These brownies were tiny and I only ate one. At this point I was quite full!

Check out Ryan’s dessert plate!

img_1309

We go big.

img_13121

Needless to say, all four of us waddled home.

img_1304

For exercise, Meghann and I decided shopping would be best. Obviously. So, we dragged the boys along to Anthropologie! Second time must be a charm because I DID end up getting stuff this time! No more garage sale money 🙁

img_1318

And then, as if karma had struck, the laundry room door fell on me.

img_13191

Don’t worry, I wasn’t seriously hurt but it did hit my head and I was a little stunned for a second! Crazy!

Now Ryan is getting ready to go lay out by the pool but its too hot for me to sit and bake so I’m going to stay inside and catch up on my emails. We are headed to his aunt and uncle’s house for dinner tonight to grill out mahi mahi and meet his sister’s new boyfriend! 😉

I hope everyone is having a great day! See you tonight!

I completely agree with you! Life is far too short to confine yourself and get all scared about eating out. Going out to nice dinners and brunches (oh man brunches are the best!) is one of my all time favorite things. Its the perfect way to spend time over great food with the people you love. Life is too short to limit yourself. Anthropologie is fantastic! Love the dresses you got. Hope you don’t get too big of a bump on your head!

      Nicole,

Unfortunately no because the tag had been ripped off this dress and there was a homemade tag instead that just said the size and the cost–no style number. Its actually a nightgown though that I plan to wear on the town 🙂

Ahhh, if I didn’t have the metabolism of a snail eating out would be more fun! I just can’t burn it off efficiently so it has to be a rare treat for me to stay at a healthy weight. Great shopping trip!

I love the idea of mini waffles on a brunch buffet! I always want a little bit of a waffle but usually they just have those huge belgium waffles that are an entire meal in themselves! I think they should make everything miniaturized on buffets so you can truly try a little bit of everything and not overload yourself!

Hmm…eating out. One of the great pleasures in life. But I think your attitude is a bit skewed by who you are and your experiences.

You are young. And trim. And have always been so, relatively. Your perspective is different than 66% of the population who are overweight or obese, and the unknown percentage who have lost weight and kept it off. I am 39. I have given birth. I used to weigh 182 lbs, at 5’2.5″, in my late 20’s/early 30’s. When I first lost my weight (57 lbs), I had to completely eliminate eating out and alcohol. Why? They were my weak spots. If I’m going out to Mexican for lunch, then I’m ordering the enchilada plate with beans, rice, sour cream, and chips.

After losing the weight, I was able to go out to eat, occasionally, and be very careful of what I ordered to control the calorie intake. As I got older, I decreased the frequency of eating out, then allowed myself to eat what I want. It’s okay to have that enchilada plate if you are only doing it once a month. Not so much if it’s once per week. Luckily having a toddler mostly cured me of the dining out phenomenon.

Studies show that people who have been overweight react to food differently than people who never have been. Emotionally and physically. See “Refuse to Regain” by Dr. Barbara Berkeley, MD. Add to that the various body types and metabolisms, and you have people who have to be careful about food, and people who don’t.

I work with guys who go out to eat daily, with no issues. I have a lot of Chinese friends who never struggle with their weight because they’ve always eaten healthfully – small amounts of meat, lots of veggies, and no sweets. My spouse goes out to eat weekly for lunch, and probably 1-2x a month with me. My grand total eating out on an average month is 1-2x. More if family is visiting, but on a recent parental visit, I basically had salad or soup for almost every meal out. I can’t NOT do that anymore. And wine? That’s weekends only now, and only one 4-oz glass.

Trying to listen to your body and be careful and gentle to your body is a good thing. But as time goes on, it’s all too easy for the portion sizes to get a little bigger, the snacks to get a little more frequent, and the meals out to get a little more common. Which is why some of us are strict about not eating out so much.

For the record, I have maintained a 52 lb weight loss for 7 years, for the most part (there was that pregnancy in there, and it took 2 years to lose the last 20 lbs). I have been a member of the National Weight Control Registry for 5 years. I am very passionate about the topic!

(…but my 13th anniversary is this month, and we’re going to a NICE restaurant with a tasting menu – but I’m getting the 3-course, not the 5 course! – and I’ll enjoy every bite. But I’ll probably do a 5 mile run the morning before.)

  • BethT
    June 28, 2009 at 8:40 pm

I have to agree with Marcia. I mean no disrespect, but every time I read you saying “life is too short to not eat ___” I get where you’re coming from, but I also find it a little off-putting. I have had a constant, lifelong battle with my weight and for me, it CAN have an effect if I eat whatever I want with the “life is too short” mantra. Yes, life IS too short to ALWAYS eat healthy, but those of us with bona fide weight problems have to be constantly diligent. This has nothing to do with depriving ourselves, but rather on maintaining what comes naturally for some people, but a little harder to the rest of us.
