Wow! Sorry I was MIA last night but we didn’t end up getting home from dinner until 11:45 and I thought it was in my best interests to go straight to bed rather than stay up till 12:30 blogging! I didn’t want to be totally exhausted today!
Here is a full recap though, starting with yesterday afternoon’s snack. Yes, I was hungry after that indulgent brunch. I can’t help it–I just get hungry! Good thing I snacked though because we didn’t end up eating dinner until 9:30!
Banana with PB2:
Sugar snap peas:
And then around 5:00 we headed over to North Tampa to Ryan’s aunt and uncle’s house. The occasion was that Ryan’s cousin, Chris, was home for the first time in awhile. He lives and works out west and rarely gets to come home—even on holidays! They live in a gorgeous area right on the river.
And when I got there I was immediately handed a mojito!
There were wheat thins, whole grain tortilla chips and an array of Sabra hummus out for the pickins—
I definitely helped myself to a few, as my drink was rather strong and chips just look so good after a cocktail!
Before dinner we took a nice boatride down the river. Scenery was gorgeous!
We had TWO boats filled with people! Ryan has a huge family!
Erin, Grandma Dot and I (love that wind swept hair!)—
Erin and Clark—
Ryan and I—
It was a love boat! 😉
After the boat, we all hung out and chatted while the fish was cooking and finally ended up eating at 9:30. I was very ready for dinner!
Here’s my plate loaded with Cuban rice & beans (with raw onions and plenty of hot sauce), a small piece of fish, plantains and salad (I didn’t end up eating the salad). I had water to drink!
Special Costa Rica hot sauce on EVERYTHING!!
Apparently there was key lime pie for dessert but I passed. I was quite full!
Overall it was a fun night with good friends. I’m anxious to get back to my routine though this week of eating super clean and working out because I have another indulgent wedding weekend coming right up and I want to feel and look my best!

It looks like you had such a nice time in North Tampa! What a beautiful spot! I just went to a wedding myself this weekend — weddings are such a blast! You’ll have a great time!
MadisonJune 29, 2009 at 8:04 am
It looks like you had such a great night to top off an awesome day!
AND your turned down key lime pie?!?! How could you?? haha, just kidding. I am a big key lime pie fan–but it cannot be that fake green color, that is so artificial!
Katrina (gluten free gidget)June 29, 2009 at 8:08 am
Hanging with the fam is always a good time… especially when it includes a meal! 😉

SO gorgeous! I moved from Chicago to Tennessee and, faced with TN heat and humidity, I’ve been reluctant to travel any further south, but maybe I’ll have to give it a try 🙂
EmilyJune 29, 2009 at 8:30 am
Looks like you guys had a great time! I cracked up when I saw the Costa Rican hot sauce – I was there in March and fell in love with the stuff! I brought a small bottle back that I hide in the fridge like treasure. 🙂 Have you ever been?
jennaJune 29, 2009 at 8:36 am
I’ve never been but Ryan and I are both saying it will be our next “big” vacation some day!

a good workout and fresh foods are the best thing after an “indulging.” i think both types of days are equally delicious!

Wow! Looks like so much fun! I’ve been to Florida once and I loved it! Want to go back!
Some really cute pics here! I love it when grandmas wear the super dark yet super stylish sunglasses, so chic! 🙂

I just realized that you’re in Tampa! I was in Dunedin when I went to FL on vacation! Neat!

Wow! That is a gorgeous area, quite literally ON the river! 😛 Food looks delish. Indulgent weekends are always fun and worth it, but it’s always nice to return to our regular habits too. I bet you and Ryan put back huge green smoothies this morning 😉
Shannon (The Daily Balance)June 29, 2009 at 9:32 am
What a BEAUTIFUL area! Love the boat shots — too fun 😉
Mel @ She Runs BrooklynJune 29, 2009 at 9:42 am
I’m lovin the hot sauce obsession you have.
I’m starting to get into it and put some on my sandwich this weekend and it rocked. Do you have a favorite kind you recommend?
brandiJune 29, 2009 at 9:48 am
what a fun weekend! I’m glad you were able to sell some of your baked goods – at least it didn’t rain the entire time, right?
love the new clothes, too 🙂
GillianJune 29, 2009 at 10:01 am
Costa Rican hot sauce is the love of my life!!! I have been to Costa a few times and the first time I was there I discovered its deliciousness and put it on EVERYTHING I ate there! I love your pink shirt also – so fun and summery!
MariaJune 29, 2009 at 10:14 am
What a lovely day! Beautiful scenery too.
I wanted to ask you how you get the PB2 so creamy? I haven’t tried any in a while now. Mine was too thick! Mix with Greek yogurt?

I’m so glad you enjoyed your Sunday evening! It’s always fun to get out on the water and chat with friends and family. Dinner looks AMAZING! 🙂
MayaJune 29, 2009 at 10:24 am
That’s great that despite the indulgence you honored your hunger when you felt it! I’m starting to think about intuitive eating more and really listening to my body, I think most of the time it knows what it needs!
AmandaJune 29, 2009 at 10:30 am
Looks like a really great end to the weekend! I definitely hear you on the exercise/clean eating this week! I indulged this weekend and want to feel great on the beach for July 4th! Have a great day!
DanielleJune 29, 2009 at 10:49 am
I’d love to find a good recipe for Cuban rice and beans, any suggestions? Cuban food isn’t something that is easily found in Seattle, WA. 🙂
MarathonValJune 29, 2009 at 10:51 am
Wow, you live in such a beautiful area! I loved the trees along the bank of the river – we call the weeping willows up here in the Midwest, is that what those are? You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area! 🙂
MattJune 29, 2009 at 11:07 am
Mmm a good day of eats!

Haha, I would totally get hungry after a couple hours without food too–no matter how much I ate before ;). Sounds like you had a great time with Ryan’s family, and the food looks delicious. So beautiful out there by the river!
DanielleJune 29, 2009 at 11:37 am
What a fun night. The food looks fantastic… apparently everyone in Ryan’s family loves Cuban 🙂

I LOVE Lizano sauces. There’s another one you can get – just labeled “salsa” – that is just delicious on veggies and grilled fish. It’s tangy and spicy, but not super hot.

you just can’t beat good food and company. good to see you had a good weekend. their place on the river is beautiful. my cousin lives in tampa, i should really get over there soon. lol

What river is that? I grew up on the Suwanee in NorFLA, so I’m a total river rat who misses the brackish water now that I’ve been coastal for 5 years. Looks like a great ride.
jennaJune 29, 2009 at 5:35 pm
its the hillsborough river—isn’t it gorgeous?!
