It’s Friday! Have anything fun planned?
The boyfriend is out of town all weekend and I’m catching up on work since I’m going to be traveling for the next few weekends. Finally got some book edits back that I need to get jumpstarted on—I need to put back on my writer’s cap. Remember when I dyed my hair brown and wrote a whole book in three months? I do. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
After I handed in my initial manuscript on April 1st, I HAD to take a break from writing for awhile. I felt too close to it and frankly, it was turning me into a crazy person. It felt great to take a break, but now I think I’m ready to jump back in and start the crazy process of the second draft.
There’s a good chance I’ll turn back into a crazy person. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya. At least this time I have an actual chair to sit in while I write, rather than a permanent spot on the floor in my old house. As much as I love the idea of writing the next great American novel on the floor, my bottom is thankful for a cushion.
Anyways, breakfast this morning was a bowl of cold cereal:

Oh, and guess what?! I won the USA Dry Peas & Lentils Recipe Rivalry contest! I never win anything! Thank y’all so much for voting for me!! The best part? I win a LIFETIME SUPPLY OF DRY PEAS AND LENTILS.
You heard me.
Jealous? Well, come over and I’ll make lentil loaves for all!

June 25, 2010 at 9:28 amCongrats on taking home the gold! LOL!!! A lifetime supply? As a vegan, I am very jealous of the copious amounts of lentils you will incur. Maybe you can send some my way. Oh and I have to make the lentil loaf too.
Goodluck with your second draft!
Jessica @ How Sweet
June 25, 2010 at 9:29 amCongrats to you! 🙂

June 25, 2010 at 9:30 amSo just curious, how exactly do you receive this lifetime of lentils? I ask because initially I envisioned a huge closet overflowing with bags of lentils, lentils under cushions, lentils in cabinets, lentils everywhere, peaking out of every door in your apartment like tentacles. Ok, weird image, but you see where I’m going with this? Is it like some monstrous delivery that you have to stash away and gradually dent over your many years, or do you get like a dainty coupon to go cash in on lentil “money”?
ha 🙂 Either way, holla and congrats for the Pea and Lentil glory.

June 25, 2010 at 9:54 amI have no earthly idea!!! I was just told to “expect my winnings in the mail”…..hahaha! 🙂

June 25, 2010 at 9:33 amCongrats on the contest – I’m going to make your recipe this weekend and use up some of my lentil supply in the pantry. Honestly, I think I’d be more excited about winning the Le Crueset set than the lifetime supply of beans, but as a vegetarian you can never have enough beans. Great job!
Kaz
June 25, 2010 at 9:35 amHah, that rocks! I’m sure you’ll find plenty of uses for your lentils and peas. 😀
Good luck editing! You’ve developed critical distance, so it should be much easier now.

June 25, 2010 at 9:37 amCongrats on winning! 🙂 Interesting night you had. My cat sometimes likes to race around the room like he’s on crack too. I have no idea why they do that. It comes at the most random times, like at 2AM when you’re sleeping! Part of the joy of owning a cat, I guess?

June 25, 2010 at 10:04 amA lifetime supply of lentils? Congrats! I know what you mean about cats. My cat likes to bang her “pawbreaker” cat nip ball against the wall in the middle of the night. I love her but sometimes I just want her to chill out, especially when its 2 am.

June 25, 2010 at 10:04 amWow, congrats on the win! I voted for you and they are supposed to be sending me a free sample of lentils! My husband will be happy….can you believe I am not a lentil person?! Your recipes do have me intrigued though! I am definitely going to be making one of them! Hope you don’t have too much to edit with your book! And after stepping away for a while, you should be fresh and I don’t think it will be difficult! I can’t wait to read it!

June 25, 2010 at 10:14 amI made your lentil meatloaf and this was my first time cooking with lentils. I tasted it almost right out of the oven & it was ok. The next day I at it for lunch & OMG it was sooo YUMMY! I will now try other recipes with lentils & make this one again and again. I have been eating on it all week long & loving it. I come home craving it. It is also very good cold between sandwich thins. Thanks for the recipe & CONGRATS!

June 25, 2010 at 2:35 pmToo funny! I like lentils, but I’m kind of sick of them just thinking about having a lifetime supply. 🙂
Good luck with your second draft! I’ve never written a book or anything of that nature, but I find re-reading my own writing to be kind of out-of-body-ish. Sometimes I’m surprised how much I like it, sometimes I don’t remember thinking/writing something, and sometimes I laugh at myself. It’s weird!
