So this evening, I’m sitting on my couch petting Dexter and reading emails.
It’s 5:15. It’s Friday. I have no plans. Should I paint a bird?
My initial thought was I’m hungry but maybe just bored so I probably should just stand in front of my freezer for awhile. This is not out of the ordinary for me, as I am 79 and all.
But just as I was moving my body from the couch to the kitchen (per usual), my phone started flashing and I was saved! Saved! Suddenly I was cool and had friends and an excuse to put on a really cute outfit!
I met my friend Tina for drinks and appetizers at Jackson’s, one of the cool new Santa Rosa establishments. I got a cosmo!

Sidenote to add that I 100% endorse cosmopolitans. Whenever I don’t know what to order at a bar and start to get nervous around so many pretty people with pretty drinks, I always just order a cosmo and then regain my composure. I had my first cosmo with my dad on my 21st birthday and then proceeded to almost fall off the barstool of a very swanky restaurant. But that’s another post for another time.
Anyways. We also shared a beet and goat cheese flatbread from the appetizer menu—

Shared is another word for devour. This was gone in about three minutes flat. I could eat, like, seven more.
And the best news? I was still at home by 8:30 and can still be 79 with a cup of tea and my cat.

June 25, 2010 at 9:06 pmHey Jenna! That flatbread looks amazing! And many of us can relate to just choosing to relax with a cup fo tea on a friday night. Nothing wrong w/ doing that once in a while 😉

June 25, 2010 at 9:15 pmI’m a lightweight, too. A sip of wine and I’m on the floor, conked out. 😀
I love staying in on Friday nights, actually. It’s my “decompression” me-time. We can be old grammies together. x)

June 25, 2010 at 9:44 pmJenna – with a cup of tea or a classy cosmo, you’re always cool!
I totally want to try out Jackson’s – yummo!
& I’d love for you to recap your 21st =)

June 25, 2010 at 9:50 pmah! I had a cosmo with my dad too 🙂 He makes them at home for me too when it’s not a wine or beer night. They are my go to drink and oh so delicious! Have a great weekend!

June 25, 2010 at 9:51 pmWoohoo Fridays! I’m being crazy as well, sipping a fancy brew and listening to some Owl City while a cool breeze rolls in the windows. Wild!!!

June 26, 2010 at 12:17 amSecond that. Being 79 – or something – sometimes sucks, sometimes just hits the spot. And I am making something with beets and goats cheese asap to mop up the pool of mouth water that’s threatening to get into my keyboard here.

June 26, 2010 at 12:19 amI know you’ve probably said this before, but where did you find those amazing mugs with the different cities on them?

June 26, 2010 at 5:01 amI think you should stop painting the birds!
I just don’t think it will look as nice if too many are colored.
Maybe you could get a few cheap pieces of canvas and paint something on your own. Sometimes if I am in a funky mood I color. Don’t judge me but I have a coloring book and well sharpened crayons and I just color. I think it might help you in the same way!

June 26, 2010 at 5:22 amHaha I always feel like I am an 80 year old at heart… sometimes a cup of tea and going to bed at a decent hour is all you need in life 😉

June 26, 2010 at 6:12 amHaha…I am 79 too! One of my usual Friday evening activities is standing in front of my freezer, just in case something calls out to me while I’m standing there. Ya never know what will beckon for you to eat it, and you have to be prepared. 🙂 I’m glad you had a fun time out!

June 26, 2010 at 6:13 amLove finishing the day with a cup of tea. 🙂 And it’s okay, I’m probably a 50-year-old in a teenage body. 😉

June 26, 2010 at 6:15 amSome nights there is nothing better than embracing our inner senior citizen and enjoying the company of tea + a good book. I’m okay with being an 80 year old at heart. 😉

June 26, 2010 at 6:15 amhaha! I am the same way when it’s my turn to order something at a bar. I get so flustered for some reason and usually default to a boring glass of Chardonnay. OH and don’t worry, I am 79 too. I felt accomplished for staying up until 10:45 last night lol

June 26, 2010 at 6:24 amI love little unplanned excursions like that. And make it home in time for bed and a book — ideal! My roommate just woke up with a killer hangover that makes me so happy I’m not a big partier. 😉

June 26, 2010 at 6:28 amMmm love cosmos! I had my first (VERY STRONG) one when I was out to dinner with my best friend and her mom. I’m not sure if she was trying to get two 17 year old girls wasted, but she definitely succeeded. Glad your weekend got off to a good start!

June 26, 2010 at 6:37 amHa! I love the story about your first cosmo! Sadly, I’m almost 26 and have never had one – I guess I should do something about that!
And that flatbread — Mmmmmm 🙂

June 26, 2010 at 7:09 amMmmmmm…roasted beet and goat cheese anything is my cup ‘o tea. Looks great! And there’s nothing wrong with occasional old lady-ness. Call it depth.

June 26, 2010 at 7:48 amI love Cosmos. I’m going to a wedding today and was planning on drinking wine at the open bar, but you may have just inspired me to order a cosmo.
BTW I was 79 last night and went to sleep at 8:45. 🙂

June 26, 2010 at 7:59 amI just made the tempeh, goat cheese, raspberry jam combo – heavenly. like unbelievable.

June 26, 2010 at 8:14 amI was also a old person last night! I went to bed at 10:30 and watched 10 things I hate about you

June 26, 2010 at 8:18 amI love out-of-nowhere drinks with a friend like that! But definitely the key is to be back home early, in time to put rolls in our hair and talk to our cats 😀

June 26, 2010 at 9:53 amI had a similar night…..and so I gardened. I really AM 79 I guess. I hope having friends garden with me made me cool enough to not just be an old woman.

June 26, 2010 at 4:55 pmActing 79 because your boyfriend dumped you and your friends have all moved away and you live in the middle of a student area in a big city so you hear all the people outside having fun = sucks. (Uh, that only happened to me once like 5 years ago….) Acting 79 because you’re choosing to be a homebody = awesome at times! Nothing like just veging out. I’m married and I still do this at times – like right now, where I am traveling from work and I am just hangin’ out in my well-equipped an airconditioned hotel room.
