Not So Glamorous

Last night was just one of those nights where nothing went right! We undercooked the sponge cake, remade it and then burned it. I scalded the creme anglaise…we didn’t get out til late…blah. I guess it can’t go easy every night. Just to show you that culinary school is not always so glamorous! Well, it’s not usually glamorous anyways actually. People seem to have this strange depiction in their heads about culinary school students happily frosting cupcakes every night but that just isn’t true. It’s hard. And when you mess up you have to throw it all away and start completely over, even if you are tired and want to go home!

Anyways! I did take pictures of my baked apple charlotte and my black current and vanilla bavarians that I made the other night and unmolded last night. They actually turned out quite nice! Last night we made Charlotte Royales and who knows how that actually turned out because we unmold them tonight and ours is rather, crispy. Haha 😉

This morning even though I was sooooo exhausted again when I woke up at 7, I knew I should go to the gym. So, to the gym I went! I did pushups, arms exercises with free weights, lunges, squats and some crunches. When I got back I had a bowl (1 cup serving) of Flax Plus granola with the other half of my morning banana. I’ve missed this cereal! It’s so delicious!

Last time I was at the store I randomly bought some canned salmon. I haven’t had canned salmon for months but I had a craving and so today I made some salmon salad with soy mayo and curry powder and put it between two slices of my sprouted grain bread. I wish I had some celery I could chop up and add but no such luck. We’ll see if it tastes as good to me as I hoped when I bought it! I also packed some cherries and a granola bar for a snack later.

Ahh, that’s too bad about what happened in class last night – but no worries!! I’m sure that tonight’s class will go MUCH smoother (and be more glamorous, haha). The baked apple charlotte and bavarians are so perfectly constructed!!

    Happy Thursday!

What material is the lid for your lunch containers made of? I think you said the containers themselves are glass, but I was not sure if the lids are too. I am shopping for new lunch containers too.

Despite the things that didn’t go well, the baked apple charlotte and bavarians look wonderful and very delicious.
And, congrats for making it to the gym this morning. You have more willpower than I do, because I snoozed through gym time.

On alot of these food blogs sprouted bread seems to be really popular. I was wondering why? It looks more dry than regular bread. Does it have less calories or more filling. Before I try a loaf, I am trying to understand what makes it so popular.
