Breakfast/ Lunch

Oh, Monday

Happy Monday!

Woahhh am I a sleepy girl today! I feel like I woke up every 10 minutes last night….I HATE that. And the time change didn’t help too much either. I have got to fix my black out curtains asap. When the alarm went off at 3:00 my eyes were burning and I hobbled downstairs to brew some VERY strong coffee to take to work. It helped, but made me so jittery I couldn’t work the scale to weigh the dough out on! Eventually though, the jitters sort of wore off and we finished everything by 11:30 and decided to go home 40 minutes early….all three of us were hurting! I did have an AWESOME snack this morning though!

Odwalla people, can I just tell you that I love you??! Seriously, these bars are totally rocking my world and this one tasted just like a big soft and chewy oatmeal raisin cookie! I have one left (the berry one) and can’t wait to try it.

I broke early for breakfast this morning just because I was so tired, jittery and hungry. Here’s my yummy oatmeal made with 3/4 cup oats, water, 1/2 banana, 1/2 scoop protein powder, chocolate chips (!!) and almond butter

img_5362

Look at those chocolate chips melt into deliciousness!!! IĀ  need to start adding these babies to my morning bowl way more often. Chocolate is always appropriate at all hours of the day, obvi.

This breakfast was super filling this morning and all I was craving when I came home from work was a smoothie. Sometimes when I don’t get enough sleep, my tummy gets all funny and my ibs starts to flair up (does this happen to anyone else?!) and a smoothie was the perfect remedy. Here’s what went into the glorious vita-mix today:

One mango (they were on sale 5 for $5!), pineapple, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 tbsp ground flax and 1 cup unsweetened vanilla hempmilk. Great combo of tropical fruit, protein and omega 3s!

My mom is just as tired as I am because she’s been up since 4 am traveling home from a business trip. We both were raiding the kitchen for something sweet and ended up splitting a macaroon. It did the trick!

I’m going to pull myself together now and head out for a 40 minute bike ride. I think some sunshine will do me good!

See you for dinner!

I added a few chocolate chips to my oatmeal yesterday, and I didn’t really like it. To me, it look away from the flavor of the almond butter, and while I mean melted chocolate is awesome, it just didn’t do it for me. Trust me, I was shocked! Guess I’ll have to stick to eating them out of the bag while the oatmeal is cooking…not that I ever actually do that šŸ˜‰

I’m hearing ya on today being rough. Silly time changes!

But your healthy food and exercise are what the doc always orders for treatment! I’m for sure making a smoothie tonight post-workout!

it may be a huge bummer (actually i know it is), but to help your sleep, you may want to go to bed within an hour of your normal, work week bedtime even on the weekends. i do this, although i have the opposite schedule. i have class at 11AM on weekdays and work at 6AM on weekends.

just a thought. it sucks to feel terrible and tired.

Hi Jenna! I’ve noticed you don’t seem to be doing much yoga anymore. Is this a conscious decision? Just curious because I was totally inspired to take up yoga when you started talking about it on here!

    • jenna
      March 9, 2009 at 2:36 pm

      Cinnamongirl,

I believe I did some yoga last week! I try to vary up my exercise and right now I signed up for two more 5Ks in the next, um two weeks, so I’m really working on training hard for those so you are seeing a bunch more cardio going on! It also made me really really sad that I can’t do yoga in a studio anymore because the classes are either in the morning or at night when I’m sleeping. As much as I love doing it alone in the living room, I did get a little tired of being by myself all the time.

Oooo I haven’t seen the Living Harvest unsweetened vanilla hempmilk yet, but I’d love to get my hands on a carton! I’ve been using unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but I bet the hemp is even better. How does it compare with the regular vanilla hempmilk?

    • jenna
      March 9, 2009 at 4:13 pm

      Lauren,

It is great! Less sweet but still very creamy and vanilla-y. I really like it. Plus, regular vanilla hempmilk has 130 calories (from sugar!) and this has only 70 with all the same benefits. Unfortunately it is super pricey and I can’t afford it except for this one time when it was on sale. šŸ™

      Michelle,

I wish! I’m more of a lay-around-and-get-tan-er than a swimmer. Ryan is the swimmer…I doggy-paddle beside him sometimes!
