goooood evening π
Sorry for being MIA but it’s been that kind of day! This morning I snacked on an oikos + kiwi because I was going to have a pretty late lunch
Slammed back some SuperFood for good measure….
Got my hairs done! π You can’t really tell a difference and I was racing around too much today for a blog photo shoot, but I promise pics to come. I was trying to scan in some pictures from my dark days (no pun intended) when, once in high school AND college, I dyed my hair DARK BROWN! I actually am a natural blonde but this was right when “A Walk To Remember” was coming out and I coveted Mandy Moore’s hair. So, dark chestnut brown it was…and super, super loooong. And I used to spiral it by wrapping pieces of it around a curling iron every day. I loved it. I miss it…sometimes….hehe
Lunch wasn’t till 2:00 (!!!) and was really fast and eaten in front of my computer because I was preparing for a conference call.
A HUGE spinach salad with a crumbled Sunshine burger, cucumber, carrot, hummus, hot sauce, Parmesan cheese and a Dr.Kracker (love these things). I drank some unpictured Tazo green tea π
Not to long after….
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
And then I went on a really HOT run. You know its hot when you have to run in a sports bra and you get sweet tan lines from your ipod arm band. Woot woot! I only ran 2.5 miles because my shin is sore and it literally was a sauna outside…I should have waited until later but I was itching at my desk and left around 4:00. Took some coconut water for the road—
You know, I really love coconut water but actually I PREFER gatorade when I’m running! I never thought I’d say that I prefer the more artificial product but when I’m running and sweating and dying out there, gatorade just tastes the best to me and really helps keep me going. You gotta do what’s right for you! And warm coconut water is just ick.
Dinner was made by mom and inspired from this recipe from our newspaper!
I made homemade sweet potato fries for my sandwich and it was awesome!!!
Sweet potato fries are a snap to make! Just peel and slice up a sweet potato, rub with olive oil, season with sea salt and, if you are a spice lover like myself, cayenne pepper, and then bake at 425 for 25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
I gulped down glass after glass after glass of water…..still feel a little parched from my run. I was pretty full after I ate but finished it off with 2 pieces of my dark chocolate…and more water. Note to self: next time wake up when the alarm goes off for a cooler run. This is what you get for sleeping in!! π

September 10, 2009 at 8:29 pmAs a natural blond like yourself, I couldn’t imagine going dark brown. Not because I have something against brunettes, I’m just too chicken to do anything drastic!

September 10, 2009 at 8:30 pmJenna,
One quick question. I used to be hooked on Special K Protein Plus cereal and had it for breakfast EVERY morning for like two years. I started eating it back when my relationship with food was very unhealthy and I was focused on calories and this cereal had low calories and high protein, thereby keeping me full for a long time. But iβve recently tried to cut back on lots of processed foods and lean towards products with a shorter and/or more natural ingredient list. Anyway, iβve been relying on oatmeal and cereal for breakfast and iβve found a brand of cereal that I love but itβs kind of high calorie wise for me, combined with 1/2 banana and some skim milk, compared to the special k. Itβs Natureβs Path Optimum cereals, especially the blueberry cinnamon. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this line. Also, any other suggestions for a breakfast that is filling and nutritional?
Thank you!
jenna
September 10, 2009 at 8:36 pmJessica,
I love Nature’s Path cereals and eat a ton of them! If you follow the blog, you’ll see what I love for breakfast and what works for me: oatmeal, waffle sandwiches with kashi waffles, peanut butter toast, cold cereal, eggs……I’m on team “eat a ton of calories at breakfast and you snack less the rest of the day”. Its been proven that people that eat a larger and more substantial breakfast lose more weight and actually weigh LESS than people that limit their breakfasts. I suggest upping your calories and eating the whole banana π

September 10, 2009 at 8:39 pmOh gosh I cry every time I see A Walk to Remember. Her songs go right through me in that movie lol. Especially the one where she’s in the blue dress on stage.. now I kind of sound like a creeper lol. Lovely eats girly! Have a great day tomorrow!

September 10, 2009 at 8:41 pmI love your dinner tonight…grilled fish sandwiches are sooo yummy π I am glad you had a good run even if it was super hot outside! I can’t wait to see your hair…I just went back to my natural color…dark brown. It is SUPER dark right now, but it will fade π Have a good night, love!

September 10, 2009 at 8:42 pmI froze on my run today! I stopped to stretch and in 2 minutes I was shivering. But its really not bad running weather. Good job tolerating that heat!

September 10, 2009 at 8:51 pmI’ve been reading your blog for a few months now but have never commented… its a fave though! π Thought i’d say finally ‘hi’! and your meals look sooo good! Thanks for the tip on sweet potato fries… yum!
I can’t imagine you with dark hair, but bet you looked beautiful in it.. you remind me of Cameron Diaz!

September 10, 2009 at 8:55 pmOMG it is hotter than heck out right now. I am dying for it cool off already. I love that Florida has no snow, but things are just insane right now. Enough! I want to wear cute sweaters and not sweat to death walking to my car. π
Morgan (lifeafterbagels)
September 10, 2009 at 8:56 pmI didn’t get out for a run until after 9am and even that was too late for missing the heat. Although, I’m sure it’s WAY WAY hotter where you are. Maybe I’m just a baby when it comes to working up a sweat.

September 10, 2009 at 9:03 pmI really wish there was a sugar-sweetened version of Gatorade. I like it for long runs too, but I really really really hate consuming high fructose corn syrup. Gross!
jenna
September 10, 2009 at 9:22 pmDaria,
If you get the gatorade packets that you mix with water, there is NO HFCS! its a miracle! π

September 10, 2009 at 9:11 pmGorgeous fish sandwich! Sounds amazing with those sweet potato fries π
Jessica
September 10, 2009 at 9:16 pmThank you Jenna!
I also prefer gatorade for runs. I tried coconut water once and it’s just not for me. Your dinner looks delicious!!
Also, i’ve been reading your blog for almost a year now and I know you have been through a lot this year. I broke up with my boyfriend of 4 years right before you and Ryan ended things and so seeing you doing ok, better than ok in fact, really inspires me to keep going and that everything is going to be ok on days where i’m really down and I’m really missing my ex and wondering if I made the wrong decision even though deep down I know I didn’t. I miss the comfort and safety of him I guess. But anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping me going.

September 10, 2009 at 9:23 pmI am so jealous of your sweet potato fries! I was going to make them the other night but I could not cut them. I kept trying and trying and finally gave up for fear of losing a finger! Do you have a special method you use?
Jenna
September 10, 2009 at 9:32 pmAt least you went on the run today! You could have easily passed due to it being too hot, you should be proud of yourself π
Your dinner looks fabulous!
Lizzy
September 10, 2009 at 9:39 pmGreat job with that run Jenna despite it being super hot out!
I stopped drinking Gatorade years ago and now that i see your drinking it to refuel after runs, do you think i should be drinking something along those lines. i stopped because of all the sugars, but now i’m seeing that its a good thing.

September 10, 2009 at 9:40 pmWOW! that dinner looks phenomenal. I am so jealous.

September 10, 2009 at 9:43 pmEverything looks great! YUM YUM! I have bounced from brown to blonde often. I am naturally light brown, so I feel like either works for me. Although I feel a lot more like myself as a brunette!

September 10, 2009 at 9:56 pmI want to hire your mom as my personal chef! Please?
I love Gatorade as well. I think it’s more mental than physical but you know what? When I’m running, I need every mental edge I can get!

September 10, 2009 at 10:01 pmSounds like you had a busy, but fun, day! LOVE that salad, and I’m in such a sweet potato crisp faze right now… they are just so darn addicting.

September 10, 2009 at 10:21 pmI’ve been addicted to sweet potatoes lately too! I’ve had them with dinner twice this week! (that also adds leftover lunches)
Thanks for the sweet potato chips tip; they look awesome!

September 11, 2009 at 12:46 amThose fishy sandwiches look good! Gatorade after a long run is great, although I just came across Clif waters and it tastes just like Gatorade!

September 11, 2009 at 1:01 amI was UN-naturally blonde for 10 years and just recently went “back to my roots”. My hair is actually MUCH darker naturally than I thought it was! I can’t imagine you with dark hair. I’m sure you’re beautiful either way π

September 11, 2009 at 7:49 amtry the passion fruit or pineapple coconut water!!! it is sooo much better than the original and much easier to get down (in my opinion). I was able to gulp down the flavored coconut water when it was room temp. unlike the original! It has a few more calories, but when you are running your booty off it does not really matter.Plus, who runs to solely burn calories??…what a bore that would be! π
Katie (A Running Start)
September 11, 2009 at 8:34 amI’m going to have to try Sunshine burgers – that burger you made looks fantastic!!
Susan
September 11, 2009 at 10:25 amI was going to take coconut water on my next long run – but thanks for reminding me that it’s gross warm! I actually never liked it before I tried it in a box, because I’d only ever tried it right out of a room temperature coconut. Gross, it’s gotta be iced!!
maureen
September 11, 2009 at 12:50 pmHave you tried Ultima replenisher. I buy it online and it is a sugar free all natural electrolyte drink. We use it all the time. My ten year old drinks it before cross country to avoid cramping. Favorite flavors are lemonade and berry. Gatorade just has too many bad ingredients and vitamin water is even worse.

September 11, 2009 at 1:51 pmI adore sweet potatoes fries, ever since my Boy and I took a trip to New Orleans! I think we must have eaten them once a day while we were there! I am a spice lover too, so now when I make them at home I toss them in olive oil, garlic, rosemary and cayenne pepper. Delish!
I am loving your blog you inspire me to be more positive everyday, there is so much in life to be thankful for!
