Lunch

Snacky McSnackster

Hi friends!

How is your Saturday afternoon going? Much to my delight (and surprise!), I have had ZERO discomfort or pain all day long in the shin region. This is definitely a first for me because usually after a run, especially a long run, I do feel some sort of discomfort afterwards. Not today! Maybe it was the skirt?! (just kidding, hehe). However, I am taking mucho precaution! Some things I haven’t mentioned before—-I do walk about 1/2 mile to warm up and 1/2 mile to cool down after each and every run. Definitely helps! Also, I have been taking anti-inflammatories lately on my doctor’s advice. For the past couple weeks, I have been taking an Ayurvedic anti-inflammatory 3x a day that I actually found out about on Runner’s World! It is an all natural Ayurvedic herb called Boswellia that is often used to holistically treat such things as arthritis and general inflammation. My doctor suggested I take ibuprofen as well so here’s the spread:

I also have been icing like its my job. Seriously, I ice whenever I sit down to work on the blog. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Actually I am icing right now! This morning after I ate breakkie, I iced and then did my very favorite thing after a long run—soaked in a long, hot bath!!! I LOVE to do this after I ice. I take a shower so I’m all clean and then I fill up the bath, add some natural mineral muscle soak and then just sit and stew in it for about 20-30 minutes. It feels so lovely, I highly recommend it!

Then, obviously, it was time for a snack—

Need I say more?

A little while later I had some lunch….a toasted Arnold’s Whole Wheat Sandwich Thin stuffed with a morningstar farms burger, Sabra’s greek hummus and feta

Followed by two thick juicy pineapple rings

Unfortunately my mom couldn’t come and lay out by the pool with me today…my brother had a little “fender bender” with the car (everyone is okay though) and she had to be at home to deal with it all. So, I laid by the pool by myself for an hour and read some new magazines and then came in and took a yoga break! I did 20 minutes of YogaDownload’s Yoga for Runners and it felt amazing to stretch after this morning.

Then it was time for another snack! A toasted Kashi Go Lean waffle slathered with Naturally More peanut butter and raspberry preserves

And then an iced coffee with 2 shots simple syrup + skim milk while I was shopping for a baby present for a shower I am attending in the morning!

I found the CUTEST “make your own baby food cookbook” at Williams-Sonoma. They are gift wrapping it for me right now and I have to pick it up in a few! When I have kids I am seriously going to be that mom that makes all her own baby food. 🙂

I’m just relaxing right now, waiting for my man to come home from the high seas. We are supposed to have date night tonight! I am also thinking it is time for another snack…I see a Chobani in the fridge with my name on it….. 😉

The baby food book sounds so cute!!!
I agree with you about the walking as a form of warm up and cool down – I think it really helps me mentally too, like I KNOW I am ready to start running and stop.

I’ve recently started using arnica cream for my running related aches and pains. It’s an all-natural pain relief cream and I found it at whole foods. I’ve read some reviews on the Runner’s World forums and it seems like a lot of people have been helped by it. Have fun on date night!

When I was rowing a lot, I survived on Boswellia and Arnica Gel. Sometimes they’re hard to find (depending on where you live), but when I went to London every street corner had a “Boots” (pharmacy like Rite Aid or Walgreens), and every Boots had a whole Ayurvedic section! Reason #72 I should move to the UK, haha…

That’s a great gift! If you ask me all mothers should do that because its CHEAPER and healthier! At least know she will know her options! Warming up and cooling down isn’t just good for your shins, it’s good for your muscles too. We learned all about it in Nutritional Biochemistry!
