Hey guys!
Well, today ended up being quite a busy day and I still have a ton of writing ahead of me. I learned my lesson the hard way of not packing lunch to take with me to the studio….after my 9 am class I grabbed a small soy coconut tea latte (YUM!) and then sat at the desk till 12:30 and got some work done on my laptop while classes were in session:

But then at 12:30 when I left I was SO hungry, my gas light was on and I still had to run to blockbuster to return a movie and hit the post office to mail a letter. I wasn’t going to buy my lunch today out but after some quick computing in my head, I realized if I didn’t I probably wouldn’t eat till 2:00 and that just wasn’t going to fly.
Enter Daphne’s Greek Cafe a few miles from the studio. But then I made another faux pas and totally ordered the wrong thing. All I wanted was a plain hummus pita (which wasn’t on the menu but they said they could make it for me) so that’s what I got….

It LOOKS great and I think this place has a ton of potential (I loooove Greek food) but there was barely any hummus at all in this teeny tiny pita and so all I feel like I ate was a fluffy white piece of bread with iceberg lettuce and feta. Not the most nutritious lunch and I’m still starving an hour later so probably about to make a snack. Note to self: PACK A LUNCH!
Okay. snacktime! 🙂

February 1, 2010 at 2:38 pmOK honestly. I live in NYC and I don’t ever find places that have sandwiches that look as yummy as the ones you find near you! Jealous!

February 1, 2010 at 2:40 pmAwww…looks pretty good for lunch on the fly! But I hate it when places skimp on the hummus 🙂

February 1, 2010 at 2:43 pmWarm pitas are one of the best things! too bad it was so teensy! I like a large hummus to bread ratio, in favor of the hummus of course!

February 1, 2010 at 2:43 pmThat tea latte sounds phenomenal! I hear you — I would pack my lunch and bring it school with my but I already have so much stuff that all of my food would just get smooshed (I know this from experience…that poor apple…).

February 1, 2010 at 2:47 pmI hate when you order something out and don’t get exactly what you want! That’s why I’m always throwing snacks in my purse haha 🙂

February 1, 2010 at 2:48 pmugh, i HATE when they don’t give you enough hummus: that’s where all the flava lies! big bummer; try not to let it get to you (because these kind of things actually really get to me)

February 1, 2010 at 2:50 pmGeez I’d be hungry by then too! I’m religious about packing food so that I’m always prepared.

February 1, 2010 at 2:52 pmDaphne’s is really good but they never give enough food. I stopped eating there because I always left hungry! And it isn’t cheap either.

February 1, 2010 at 2:54 pmI hate when places skimp on hummus. I mean come ON….it’s Greek food. We need protein to stay satiated!
Coconut tea latte!? Mmm.

February 1, 2010 at 3:11 pmThat tea latte sounds incredible! I’ve never heard of coconut tea lattes before… yum!
I also hate it when they are stingy with the hummus. I mean, if it’s a hummus sammie, my gosh…. give me some hummus!

February 1, 2010 at 3:12 pmDon’t you hate wasting money on food that’s just mediocre? Blah! Hope it’s better next time.

February 1, 2010 at 3:15 pmNow I’m craving a pita… It looks yummy… 🙂

February 1, 2010 at 3:20 pmCoconut tea latte – YUM. Sounds like a perfect match with your coconut butter & raspberry jam on toast =]

February 1, 2010 at 3:21 pmThat pita just looks simply to die for! Literally drooling right now… I guess not packing a lunch sometimes works out for the best?

February 1, 2010 at 3:38 pmThat Daphne’s is really good, but not always the healthiest. In a pinch it works.

February 1, 2010 at 3:38 pmLol! I had lunch with my mom today at a local deli. I order a humus and veggie sandwich. There was adaquate hummus, but not enough veggies! It needed some cucumbers and green peppers and perhaps a little spinach.

February 1, 2010 at 3:46 pmWow that was a skimpy sandwich. I always carry a snack bar and some nuts in my purse to carry me to the next meal.

February 1, 2010 at 3:54 pmGenerous hummus realllllly makes the pita. Sorry they were stingy!

February 1, 2010 at 4:06 pmThe hummus is the best part! No wonder it didn’t fill you up…sans fat + protein 😉

February 1, 2010 at 4:24 pmA suggestion I have is to put your favorite nuts and/or larabars?
in your glove compartment as an emergency stash. Works well
when you remember they’re there 🙂

February 1, 2010 at 4:45 pmOooo coconut tea?? That sounds so unique – I’ve never heard of anything like it!! Definitely going to look for it the next time I’m at a coffee shop. 🙂

February 1, 2010 at 5:07 pmExtra hummus would have definitely made it better:)

February 1, 2010 at 5:08 pmI hate that feeling of being stuck and having to make a snap decision. Whenever I’m headed out around meal (or snack!) time, I try to mentally estimate how long I’ll be gone and whether or not to pack food. 😛
Meghan@traveleatlove
February 1, 2010 at 5:29 pmThat pita looks like it needs some tzatziki in addition to a heap of hummus and hot sauce!

February 1, 2010 at 5:33 pmI love your blog. I have been reading for about 3 months now. I find so much inspiration and motivation from reading your blog. Thanks for being down to earth. I totally agree with you about the Greek food. Here in Mississippi one must be careful when ordering “different” food. Burgers and chicken rule the roost around my parts.

February 1, 2010 at 5:42 pmI had a pita this weekend in Atlantic City and it was super yummy. Mine had lamb in it

February 1, 2010 at 5:56 pmMmm fluffy pita. And feta. If only it was spinach instead of iceberg.

February 1, 2010 at 6:02 pmYes, packing a lunch (and snacks!) is a necessary for me! If I don’t I end up eating like crap from the cafeteria.

February 1, 2010 at 7:45 pmNot cool when they don’t give you loads of hummus!!

February 2, 2010 at 9:52 amThat’s gotta be one of my pet peeves of sandwich places, that they don’t have good lettuce! It’s always the nutritionally-void iceberg, which I try to avoid.
Of course, maybe next time I got to a sandwich place I’ll just bring an emergency baggie of romaine or green leaf lettuce – how silly would that look? LOL!
