Happy Tuesday!
I am so sore today from yoga!! My arms, my back, my legs, my core….it never fails to amaze me how I’m always at my sorest from yoga rather than weights or any other exercise. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I always feel like I’m in my best shape when I’m practicing regularly. Now if it weren’t so dang expensive!! 🙁
Breakfast was overnight oats:

I used 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup Oikos, a spoonful of almond butter, raspberries and pom seeds. Twas delicious!

Can’t decide if I want to go to the gym or do more yoga in my living room. Going to let my food digest then make a gametime decision. The sun is STILL hiding….makes me miss the South!

December 15, 2009 at 8:34 amI wish I liekd overnight oats. I can’t get into the whole ‘cold’ oats thing. Do you let them sit out for awhile before eating?
Lizzie
December 15, 2009 at 8:37 amI feel the same way about Pilates – have gotten so much out of the few classes I have taken, but it is $$$.
Must look into o/night oats. I keep seeing you write about them – they look really good! Well into my oat bran w/ chia seeds, PB, and honey/agave at the moment, so need to pry myself away from that 🙂

December 15, 2009 at 8:38 amNot sure I would do more yoga today if I was that sore. I’d probably stretch a ton and then do a little cardio, then more stretching – maybe a light yoga session later in the PM. It’s good to work out different muscle groups on alternate days. But I know what you mean about yoga, it’s very addicting and can easily be done every day. Your breakfast bowl is so pretty – the colors just POP!

December 15, 2009 at 8:46 amI’m loving the overnight oats! But I do warm mine for about 45 seconds in the microwave!
And I would opt for another brisk walk outside and some stretching today! Give your body a chance to rest!

December 15, 2009 at 8:48 amI think the beautiful thing about yoga or any exercise for that matter, is that it doesn’t have to cost a thing! Come hang out with me for a day. You’ll get a workout that is priceless.

December 15, 2009 at 8:52 amMore yoga! Yay! I’m a runner and practice Bikram. Yoga just gives me such a great feeling.

December 15, 2009 at 8:59 amHey Jenna,
Hope you’re not too homesick! It’s definitely harder to be away from home when the weather is gloomy…I know how you feel. Just keep busy and talk to the people you love. Matched with a good workout sesh, you’re bound to feel better! [:
Love,
Heather

December 15, 2009 at 9:10 amI’ve recently decided one of my goals for 2010 is to start up yoga! I have to say, you were one of my main sources of inspiration!
Estela @ Weekly Bite
December 15, 2009 at 9:11 amI agree with you on the yoga thing! I feel more sore doing that then doing weights!
I miss overnight oats! I need to make that for breakfast… or dinner this week 😉

December 15, 2009 at 9:13 amYoga shouldn’t be so expensive! Nor should pilates.
My gym doesn’t offer either. The other gyms in the area require you be a member to take classes too. Double bummer for me!
And question, do you eat your pom aril whole? Or spit out the crunchy part like me?
Laura
December 15, 2009 at 9:16 amI’m in the south (Atlanta, GA area) and unfortunately we haven’t seen the sun in a while either. 🙁

December 15, 2009 at 9:18 amYoga is definitely amazing and definitely expensive!

December 15, 2009 at 9:23 amThose raspberries look so pretty and refreshing! And sore after yoga? Love that feeling!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
December 15, 2009 at 9:28 amYoga doesn’t *have* to be expensive, but I know what you mean. Classes can be so pricey! I love some of the free workouts on tv and sometimes I’ll create my own session by including different poses that I’ve learned over the past. Also, I’m sure there are some great DVD’s out there on yoga that would include some new poses as well as old ones that you’ve done before. MUCH cheaper then classes, especially once you already know how to do the poses. 😀
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen)
December 15, 2009 at 9:33 amHave you heard about the free yoga podcasts on http://www.yogatothepeople.com? They’re great! Whenever I start doing yoga (lor lunges) again after a break, I’m sore for days! Must mean it’s working, right?

December 15, 2009 at 9:43 amYou better tell the sun to come out to play before I get there!!
Michelle
December 15, 2009 at 9:48 amBeautiful oats as usual!!! Jenna, do you heat up your overnight oats before you eat it sometimes? 🙂 I really wanna try your combo and bring it in to work in the morning!!
I agree that yoga should not be so expensive!!! GRRRR maybe you’ll find yourself a yoga instructor boyfriend and he’ll give you lessons at HOME for FREEEE!!!! 😉

December 15, 2009 at 9:50 amThose raspberries are beautiful! I want some : )

December 15, 2009 at 9:53 amThe sun is finally out here in the midwest but unfortunately I don’t think it’s going to get above 25° 🙁
I need to do yoga more often. Running seems to dominate my time for working out since it takes so long but I love it so much it’s hard to do something else!
Krista
December 15, 2009 at 9:57 amAnother alternative is yogaglo http://www.yogaglo.com/ it’s a great website…unlimited videotaped classes for only $18 a month = sooo cheap…and they are updated often, check it out!

December 15, 2009 at 10:14 amI COMPLETELY agree with you on yoga! My body always tells me when I’ve been practicing consistently… in a GOOD way!
This time of year is perfect for Pom seeds. LOVE them!

December 15, 2009 at 10:16 amIt’s dark in the south, too. At least it is in Atlanta – foggy and cloudy!

December 15, 2009 at 10:21 amI always get more sore from yoga than anything else. I feel like it’s the best workout, and it really does help my running. I’m so much faster when I’m practicing regularly!
leslie
December 15, 2009 at 10:26 ami think one of the best parts of yoga is how it can still be challenging, even when you do the same sequences again and again – it still makes you work in new ways or feel new things. although, that could be true of any form of exercise.
i also wish yoga wasn’t such an expensive habit though. seriously, i don’t know what people did before podcasts existed!
heather
December 15, 2009 at 10:33 amThere are no yoga classes around here but I have lots of yoga videos so I can practice at home. Also if you have netflix then you can get a lot of videos on their watch instantly service so you get variety without paying more.

December 15, 2009 at 11:14 amThe sun is finally out here in Carmel (but then that could change before the cyber-ink is dry on this sentence). Love the look of raspberries and pom seeds. Power walk time.

December 15, 2009 at 11:16 amI need to give yoga a try…I have always heard such amazing things about it but everytime I have tried it just find my mind wandering and I impatiently check my watch. I need to learn to chill my ADD personaility down!! haha!

December 15, 2009 at 12:01 pmI absolutely love yoga too! I have never felt so good as when I was doing it often too. The oats look gorgeous/delish…great job!

December 15, 2009 at 12:14 pmIm in love with yoga. I feel like I get such a great workout!
Your oatmeal always looks so good!! Its making me hungry.

December 15, 2009 at 12:17 pmIt’s funny, when I’m doing yoga consistently- thats when I feel my best too! The more yoga you do- the more you crave it! Whenever I’m not feeling the yoga for a few weeks- I don’t wanna do it, but after 3 days of classes or so, I’m back in my game. 🙂 Pricey- but at least you got trusty Dave Farmar for a guaranteed good workout, a la podcast.

December 15, 2009 at 12:20 pmmmmmmmmm raspberries!
Liz
December 15, 2009 at 12:23 pmLove how yoga does that. I’d love to go more often, but alas, I can’t afford it! I could do it on my own but it’s SO much better in a class. I love HOT yoga and I don’t think my fiance would appreciate me trying to replicate that at home.
Paige (Running Around Normal)
December 15, 2009 at 1:38 pmI’m the same way with yoga. I’ll get sore in places I didn’t know I could! lol
Good luck with the big decision, hehe

December 15, 2009 at 1:43 pmI love the fact running is free!!!

December 15, 2009 at 1:56 pmThose raspberries are GORGEOUS! Seems like raspberry season is so far away but I may have to pick some up! (I do have them frozen every morning but not quite the same!).
Thanks for being an exercise inspiration! I have to do it EVERY DAY! Tonight, Zumba!

December 16, 2009 at 1:09 pmI love your recipe for overnight oats! I used to only be able to eat oatmeal if it was loaded with sugar..but I eat this breakfast now everyday. I use organic peanut butter, chopped apples, cinnamon, and a little yogurt and its the best breakfast i’ve ever had. LOVE your site! 🙂
