Breakfast

Sunday Morning Oat Fix

Good morning!

How is everyone doing this morning? It is a rainy dark Sunday here!

I stood in front of my pantry and fridge for a solid 10 minutes this morning trying to think of something really fun to have for breakfast this morning. Breakfast is, if you don’t know, my favorite meal of the day and on the weekends I like to have things that I can’t have during the week when I pack my meal. I thought maybe waffles or almond butter toast or another yogurt bowl……..but when it all came down to it, I needed my oat fix!

This bowl contains:

  • 1/2 cup oat bran cooked in 1 cup water
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 huge scoop almond butter
  • few chocolate chips for fun!

It took me a solid 15 minutes to eat. I LOVE just being able to relax in the morning….just to be able to drink my coffee and eat my oatmeal in my pajamas is something I used to take for granted but never anymore!

This morning I am going with my mom to a 9:00 Bikram class and I am so psyched. I haven’t been able to get to an actual yoga class in months because of my schedule and the ONLY class I can make a week is on Sunday mornings. I’m really going to try to go more often though because I miss it so much and especially now with all my training getting started up, I feel feel like I need one full 90 minute yoga class a week to stretch me out.

After Bikram I am meeting Sarah for lunch at Whole Foods! Yip yip hooray! =)

Definitely keep up the yoga while you’re training. Yoga has made me a better runner – I feel looser and more agile, therefore I run longer and with more ease. I’m trying to find yoga studios around me that I can take classes at, but at a cheaper price ($10-$13) than the norm. I’m training for a half marathon as well in May, so I want to up my yoga practice also!

Breakfast is my fav meal of the day too!! I had my usual steel cut oats this morning and decided to add some protein powder to it and I was pleasently suprised! Thanks for the idea. I’m going to pick up some oat bran today too and try it for tomorrow’s breakfast. Enjoy your yoga, can’t wait to hear how it goes!

And yes, it all comes down to OATS I think! I always tell myself I will come up with something new and original during the weekend, but I always end up craving the same thing!

    Michelle–
Where are you from? If you live in a college town, and can show any form of ID that say’s you’re a student, studios frequently offer student discounts. I live in Boston, land of abundant colleges, and this is how I only pay $12 (or less when I buy packages of classes) for my yoga 🙂

Sunday morning oats and coffee is the BEST. I think I could realistically make a bowl last about an hour. I love it! Why can’t every day be like Sunday?!

I also debated about what to have, and then went to the good ole oats. Can’t beat a classic!

Have a great time at yoga! Hey, do you ever do yoga if you’re injured? I think I pulled a calf muscle and I’m wondering if yoga (vinyasa style) will make it worse, or stretch things out. I’m so mad at myself for getting hurt! As we know, not being able to work out when you want to is the WORST.

    Hi Jenna!

I’m a long-time reader of your blog but haven’t really posted until now. I just wanted to say that your raving about almond butter has finally broken me down and I had to try it! I bought some Maranatha no-stir crunch almond butter at Publix the other day. It was pretty good! A nice alternative to PB.

Oh, and I hate being rushed in the morning too. Relaxing in your pjs with coffee is definitely the way to go!
