Goodness gracious!!
I am overwhelmed with thanks for all the wonderful and helpful suggestions regarding when to eat breakfast! Tomorrow is going to be the test run…...I think I’m going to have a larabar and hot water around 3:30 when I’m getting ready and then when I get my break around 7 or 8, I’ll bring everything to make a bowl of oat bran in the microwave at work as well as some chai tea!
I’m reallyyyyyy trying to nix the coffee and caffeine in general because I vowed to myself that in 2009 I will completely rid myself of my migraines and caffeine is definitely a trigger….as sad as I am because I do LOVE coffee! These new hours will be the ultimate test of my strength with no caffeine though! Haha 🙂
This afternoon I snacked on a new yogurt that Sarah talked me into buying last night at Greenwise:
It was delicious! The yogurt itself was smooth and creamy and I just loved stirring in my own topping, which was sweet but not overly so. Look at how pretty it is!
I also ate the rest of this yummy melon:
I’m constantly in the process of listening to my body more….especially when it wants a break! I felt so tired all day today. I think its a culmination of my surgery last week then immediately doing the yoga detox weekend and the anxiety of starting a new job tomorrow. Whatever it was, I felt zapped today. So, in terms of exercise I kept it light. I walked Mikan for about 15 minutes and then did 20 minutes of glorious sun salutations followed by headstand to balance myself. Just what the doctor ordered 🙂 .
Mushrooms were the theme of tonight’s dinner. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it yet, but starting now, once a month I’ll be coming up with mushroom recipes that will be featured on the Mushroom Channel website. I can’t reveal the recipe yet to you guys but it should be featured on the website around January 26th. I’ll let you know when it is up and running!
What it was was a Roasted Mushroom Sandwich with Garlic Aioli and Arugula—–
The bad thing though was that because of my mouth surgery and the fact that I have an uncomfortable piece of plastic in my mouth right now, I couldn’t eat the hard roll that the sandwich was on. So, I just ate the roasted mushroom and had a cup of Annie’s on the side:
As well as an orange:
After dinner I packed my breakfast (that feels weird to say!) and cleaned up and then had dessert. Another half cup of rice pudding, heated up and mixed with cinnamon—
With herbal coco truffle dessert tea:
Dang. I don’t know about anyone else, but this Kozy Shack rice pudding is seriously like crack to me. Its SO good…..especially the European kind that I bought. Its pretty much the creamiest thing ever. I could easily eat the entire tub! Vata is definitely my primary dosha type and I like warm, comforting foods. I would take warm rice pudding over ice cream any night!
Its only 7:15 but I’m definitely in wind-down mode. Again, I’m predominately a vata and often have trouble falling asleep due to anxiety. When I have a big day the next day that I KNOW I have to wake up early for, often times I’ll lay in bed for hours :(. So, my plan for tonight is to take a hot bubble bath and meditate for a little while before reading in bed. If I can be asleep at 10 that would be amazing.
Given my schedule, I think on my days I work I will blog breakfast and lunch together around 1:00 when I get home. I hope that works! Adding blogging to the to-do list at 3:15 in the morning might just be a tad too much 😉 .
Wish me luck!!!!!!!

I’ve never tried the Cozy Shack, but if its like crack, I don’t know if its a habit I should start!
Are you going to try decaf tea or coffee in the am or just nix it all together? Bold time to try that with the new early hours! You can do it, though!

January 12, 2009 at 7:56 pmNancy’s yogurt is that best. I grew up on it while being a farm girl in Oregon! You should try mixing it with mushy fruit or berries and then freezing them in ice cubed sized portions. It’s a great after dinner snack or mid-day I want something sweet and cold.

January 12, 2009 at 9:31 pmHey Jenna,
Sounds like you’re all ready for your first day tomorrow. It’s going to be great. Can’t wait to hear all about it, but I’m really sad we won’t be seeing any pictures of all the baked goods. 🙂
Your mushroom sandwich sounds good – sorry you couldn’t eat the roll, but the middle looked like the best part.
Way to listen to your body as you’ve had a lot going on these past few days. I’m working on that! Have a good night and get lots of sleep. 🙂
sweet and fit

January 13, 2009 at 12:46 amGood luck, Jenna! And also, way to go on giving up caffeine…
I know you can do it! 🙂 If you still love the taste of coffee, why not have decaf here and there? It tastes the same and gives you that cozy coffee feeling.

January 13, 2009 at 7:19 amJenna,
I hope you’re having a great morning and enjoying your oatbran. Could you tell me how you fix it? Do you just add the same amount as you would oats and water (or milk)? I have oatbran in my pantry for different recipes and want to try it. Also, do you ever add wheat germ?
Thanks!
Jenn (from snowy IN!)

January 13, 2009 at 7:46 amHi Jenna!
I’ve been reading your blog for about a month, and maybe I missed something but I am so confused as to your job and your schooling. What exactly are you doing at 3:30 in the morning, and are you still in school or have you graduated? Thanks for the help, as I feel a little silly for missing these important facts!

January 13, 2009 at 9:35 amHi Jenna
I gave up coffee a year ago(I had a week of headaches at first as a result!) It was tough! But now i drink green tea in the morn and when I need a “boost”.It still has a bit of caffeine , but nothing like coffee amount.
At first I didn’t like the taste of green tea,so i experimented with different types and different steeping times.
Turns out my fave kind is gunpowder green tea,and I prefer steeping looseleaf about 2 min(best taste looseleaf). If i am on the go or out ,I take with me Numi Temple of Heaven Gunpowder green teabags…
If you steep green tea too long it can get bitter.I also found it took em two weeks to adjust to the “smoky” taste…but now I truly love it.

January 13, 2009 at 9:42 amGood luck on your first day!
Have you tried the Kozy Shack heat-and-eat breakfast cereals? I just saw them the other day and they look pretty tasty.
jenna
January 13, 2009 at 1:55 pmHeatherBakes,
I’ve seen those too but haven’t tried them! They seem pretty costly for something I could easily make at home, you know?!
Liz,
I finished school (well graduating this Saturday actually) and got a job as a baker at an all organic supermarket!
Jenn,
Easy! I just mix 1/2 cup oat bran with 1 cup milk or soy milk and either simmer on the stove or zap in the micro for a minute and a half. I think I like it better than oatmeal actually! its awesome and sooo creamy!
Ashley,
You’re supposed to get oil to balance the your specific dosha type however, a good rule of thumb is just to use raw organic sesame oil in the winter and raw organic coconut oil in the spring and summer!

January 13, 2009 at 9:42 amI love mushroom sandwiches. Note to self to buy portabellas.
It’s going to be a hard adjustment to that schedule with no coffee 😉
