Gearing Up For Tacos

Happy Friday!

I forgot to include this picture last night….good times!

Julia (the real Julia) was a debutante gone mad. I loved that costume idea! ;)

This morning I had an oat bran photo shoot on my floor, per usual.

IMG_0245

IMG_0247

I used 1/2 cup bran, 1/2 cup milk, ~1 cup water, 1 banana, almond butter and maple syrup.

Maybe this weekend I’ll go find a toaster. I love oats but would kill for a waffle sandwich or an ezekiel english muffin!!

Today is a pretty busy day at work (Fridays usually are) and then after work, we have our employee “after harvest” party. Harvest 09 is now totally done and tonight we throwing a big party for our awesome vineyard crew that has worked so hard all season. We have even rented a taco truck….yes, I’m totally stoked about my first California taco truck experience!!!

Adorable costume! Good thing you didn’t do the Dan Aykroyd impersonation of Julia Childs, that could’ve gotten messy:

I agree…the costume fits you!! Looks like a fun evening for a “work” evening! I recently started waiting tables in a fine dining restaurant (family owned – cute italian couple!!) two nights a week…and though it can definitely get “crazy” in the kitchen, it can be fun!! I never thought I’d be back in the restaurant biz, but it’s kinda fun getting out of the house 2 nights a week “putting on a persona” when I have 3 girls I homeschool at home!!

It’s an identity different than “mom” at home, and the tips are GREAT!!! I constantly sneak peeks on how they do things in the kitchen, and learn new ingrediens etc. We even had a wine tasting the other night!! Fun being paid to sample and learn about the different wines we have. I thought of you ;)

Oh man, California has the BEST Mexican food. I’m a real snob about authentic, quality Mexican food, which is hard to find on the East coast. You’re in for a real treat.

Reply

49 Kristina October 30, 2009 at 9:33 am

Ah, the “real” taco truck experience: Randomly stumbling on a taco truck late-night because you’re suddenly hungry after being out and about with friends. Nothin’ like it! And I will say that this is the one area where Southern CA trumps northern CA!

your oat bran is very photgenic…or maybe it’s the amazing camera and excellent photgrapher. looks like you’re learning fast!

51 LeanGreenLiving October 30, 2009 at 9:35 am

If you are near a Costco, the Oster Toaster Oven is affordable and fantastic. I like it so much better than the loyal toaster I used for so long. . . never thought I’d betray it. It’s quick for reheating things, too. Much healthier than using the microwave.

Reply

52 Joelle (The Pancake Girl)) October 30, 2009 at 9:48 am

I think the costume is great- who doesn’t love Julia?! Did you see the movie, btw- it’s great!

You should totally get a toaster- I never realized how handy they are until I moved and didn’t have one at first– suddenly all I wanted was toast every morning!

I personally love your costume. I have been searching for a cheap costume that I could throw together so that I don’t have to waste unneeded $$ on a costume that I’ll never wear again.

I may ‘steal’ your costume idea. I hope you don’t mind!

I know that you are in need of furniture, do they have any good yard sales up there? When we goto southern california on our beach vacation, I always make a point to go yard saling there, I always find some great treasures.

help! can you use regualar ground coffee (like you buy at the store) and be successful with a french press or does it really need to be something special?

Reply

65 jenna October 31, 2009 at 7:47 am

Jenn,

You really should use coarse ground coffee for a french press. I buy my coffee as beans and then have the coffee shop grind it for a french press…most will do that for you!

66 Carrie @ I See Monsters October 30, 2009 at 12:39 pm

Toast your waffles/english muffins under the broiler! I have zero counter space in my kitchen so I am balking on buying a toaster oven or microwave, and I’ve found that I’ve adapted so well I almost don’t even miss them.

68 Katie October 30, 2009 at 1:22 pm

Jenna, have you thought about going to a thrift store and getting a toaster (and anything else you may need at this point of moving : )? It’s an eco-friendly choice (less production) and also an econ-friendly choice (more money for you!). We recently moved, and it is amazing how much stuff we ended up giving away to thrift stores…like-new stuff, because we just couldn’t take it with us! Could be a sweet solution… Just a thought : )

Happy Friday!

Love it! Enjoy your first taco truck experience. I have had the amazing Cali-Mexican food experience. Actually if you go the plaza with the super target, whole foods, and trader joe’s (I think that’s the one you may be shopping at…that was our staple plaza for our honeymoon we were there everyday). Anyways if you go to the end of the row of stores, past TJ’s to the right and that coffee shop and walk down to the end there’s a YUMMY Mexican restaurant! That was probably the most confusing set of directions. But you really should go! Super yum!

I don’t think I could ever get sick of your oats girl! Have you been eating them all your life? I never realized how popular they were until I entered the Blogging community…gosh, I remember my parents making me eat oatmeal when I was a kid or I couldn’t go to school (…which I didn’t see as a problem :) )…we called it “Porridge” then and would put butter in it !! (Oh and I am NOT old…I’m only 28 …still :)

Jenna, (OR ANYONE )— how much Almond butter/nut butter do you usually put in your oats?? Do you just plop it in or are you careful not to put too much in? …usually I eat up licking a spoonful or two myself ;)
