Can you believe tomorrow is September 1st?!?!
I can’t.
It seems like just yesterday I was on a red eye flight coming home to surprise my mom for Mother’s Day. Or…racing in an ambulance to a Tahoe hospital after Adam crushed his shoulder on the slopes. <—there’s a video of that somewhere on the internets but I can’t force myself to relive the memory.
Anyway! I haven’t done one of these posts in awhile so here’s a few things I’m really loving now. Starting with the above espresso.
I have one every single morning. It’s the perfect accompaniment to bible reading in bed. That way my prayers are extra fast and caffeinated. I think hope Jesus understands.
My mom works at a spa so I get dibs on the good stuff, and this Moroccan oil has quite simply changed my life. I was never a believer before, but it really is gold in a bottle. One little drop on your ends after getting out of the shower equals silky soft hair all day long. It’s totally amazing and rumor has it, you can get it on Amazon! What can’t you get on Amazon?
And while we’re talking beauty products, let me introduce you to my favorite lotion on the face of this great earth. Once you use this stuff you’ll never be able to use anything else again. It’s that addicting. It’s perfect for the red chapped hands of those of us that dishes all day! I started using it in college and can’t go a day without it.
My parents just brought me this photo of my grandparents circa 1969. Isn’t it fab?
This book by Helene has really changed the way I look at photography! In my opinion, it’s the best resource out there for food bloggers and there’s some great recipes in it as well! If you buy one book on food photography, make this it.
Big hipster glasses? Yes, no??? I can’t decide. These actually aren’t mine—they were part of a free home try on program by Warby Parker. I sent them back the other day but since I need new glasses anyway, I’m still considering ordering them (my grandfather appears to be wearing them as well in the above photo). And then sitting in my house afraid to go outside.
These brownies. Again and again and again. Things like this never get old.

Girl, you make thick-rimmed glasses look sexy!
I think you are rocking those glasses. Go for it!
Love Moraccan Oil! It’s a life changer. I love the glasses as well. And the book, I just ordered a couple copies, the pic of your grandfolks is incredible, I am not a coffee fan but lotion, yes for sure. Must try that one. And brownies, okay I’m in. Great post!
I work at a salon/spa too. Moroccan oil is AH-mazing!
oh man – my friend hayley got me some of that lotion for my birthday… i love it too! i’ll never get anything else!
You totally opened up my world to some stuff that I didn’t know were great. I am seeking these things out when I get the chance. Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen that Moroccan Oil around, didn’t know that it was gold in a bottle though. And that book, I must get that book.
I LOVE my moroccon oil!
THOSE GLASSES ARE SO CUTE! You can totes rock them. I say go for it!
I vote yes on the big hipster glasses, especially with the rest of that outfit – they suit you!
I like the glasses! I can’t believe it is September either. This year has just flown right by.
Oh, and Jesus definitely understands.
I’m dying to get Plate to Pixel. I’ve heard nothing but good things and the woman clearly knows what she’s doing (her blog is living proof).
I’m on board with your loves, completely. Especially that espresso.
And Moroccan Oil is the best stuff ever. EVER.
Love the glasses! Will find that lotion, and wondering if you’ve ever tried the Moroccan Oil Shampoo/Conditioner? My hair’s a mess after using it (but love the oil itself).
Never tried any other product but the oil! That’s too bad…and very odd!
Okay, your grandmother is absolutely gorgeous! She would look good in those glasses too.
Love those glasses. Do it!
That’s the coffeemaker we have. We LOVE it.
I love moroccan oil ! This new stuff by kerastases has been knocking my socks off too:
http://www.kerastase-usa.com/_en/_us/conso/products/elixirultime/index.aspx
You never fail to make me smile, Jenna! I might have to find myself some moroccan oil now. And your grandparents look totally Mad Men style fabulous!
Love the glasses — definitely a yes!
What a beautiful photo of your grandparents. Your grandmother is stunning. I love old photos and the stories they tell.
I can certainly see why you’re loving all these things!
I have always wanted one of those espresso makers. They’re not expensive so I have no idea why I haven’t purchased one! Shame on me.
Your grandparents look fierce! I <3 1960s style.
Espresso is my favorite way to start the day too – we are actually so lazy (and addicted?) that we moved our espresso machine to the bedroom, so don’t even need to leave the room to enjoy a yummy cup!
I also LOVE the glasses!
You do rock the glasses. But I thought they were out? Way out?
Daughter convinced me they were when she convinced me she needed *new* glasses after just a year…. Jeesh.
The Moroccan Oii definitely rock.s. After the first bottle we cheaped out, (shhhh, don’t tell anyone) and bought the Argon oil from Sally’s Beauty Supply. It smells the same and works beautifully on a budget!
Now to check out the classic brownies!
Those glasses look super cute on you!!
Is the Moroccan Oil the same as argan oil? I’ve been using Kahina Giving Beauty Moroccan Argan Oil on my skin for the past few months and it has made a HUGE difference on my complexion! Great in the hair too!
Thanks for the book recommendation! I am determined to become at least a decent food photographer yet…
I have those glasses! They are fab!
LOVE Moroccan Oil! It has seriously changed my life and most importantly, my curly/frizzy hair. I also love those glasses, they are identical to the ones your grandpa is wearing
Happy {almost} September.
Helene’s book
“! In my opinion, it’s the best resource out there for food bloggers and there’s some great recipes in it as well! If you buy one book on food photography, make this it.”-
I 100% AGREE!!! I have posted about that before too and have book reviews in my photography section on my site but yes, if someone is going to buy one book on food photography THAT is the one, for sure. Amazing book and amazing woman!
Your brownies…oh, lovely.
And Moroccan Oil…thanks for lmk it’s worth it. I have never popped$$ for it but now, I kinda think I need to!
Embrace the glasses, girl! They look awesome on you!
Love the glasses!! Which style is that?? I’ve been dying for some big hipster glasses and thanks to you have now discovered Warby Parker and their free home try-ons. Amazing! Can’t wait for my glasses to get here!!
thanks! It’s the “Colton” style
Love the glasses! Definitely order them!
Love the picture of your grandparents! So stylish.
LOVE it ALL. Terrific post. Nerd reading glasses are my secret addition, too. Feel like IQ jumps 20 pts when wearing. Outside? Dunno. Not feeling the Clark Kent thing just yet.
Love the glasses and the picture of your grandparents! I love looking through old black and white photos!
PS Although, if ever get stopped by a traffic cop….put them on, mouth-breath, and say ‘Officer’ a lot…could help.
Three things:
1. I also love Moroccan Oil. It’s a wonderful product, and it also smells like Heaven!
2. Rock the glasses! They look cute!
3. Your grandmother is beautiful in that photo. Love the gown. You look a lot like her! What was the event the photo was taken at? It looks fancy and old-school glamorous!
Thank you for introducing me to Warby Parker!!
big hipster glasses = yes, yes, YES! i’m usually a biatch about most things hipster and tattoos-of-something-in-a-foriegn-language-or-even-worse-a-bird-or-feathers etc etc but i love this particular pretentious trend. it’s adorable, quirky, and bookwormish. go for it!
those glasses are SO cute on you! I wish I could pull off the hipster look. PLEASE get them!
um I’m obsessed with that photograph. is your grandmother the blonde? she’s SO chic.
Yes to the Hipster Glasses! I think they look so cute. I am a big fan and have a pair myself so I’m biased but seriously, they look great. especially with a sweater during the fall season.
Jenna, I really dig those glasses! I mean, clearly good taste is in the family! What a great picture of your Grandparents
My grandfather makes espresso on the stove the ‘old fashioned’ for my Sister and I when we visit. Looks like you make it that way too??
I like the glasses! I have the same ones, sorta in metalic red
Get the glasses! Warby Parker is amazing, I have two pairs of their glasses. They have amazing customer service and an awesome return policy. I’m just waiting for the Rx sunglasses! =)
I second that book. I’ve loved every single word of it and totally absorbed it all in. As for the glasses… my mom bought be some for a gift just like those but I’ve chickened out wearing them too! They are cute, but I feel a little self conscious at the same time.
Do you use the soy stuff on your face too? I’m always wary about soy…
Oh God – I just seen those brownies…Oh. God…
The Morocco Oil looks cool! I am moving to Morocco for the Peace Corps in March to teach English! Also, your grandmother looks like she belongs at a party hosted by Holly Golightly!
Those glasses look super cute on you! (LOVE Moroccan oil btw!)
Those glasses are uber adorable…and they look great on you! I am tempted to run out and get some myself (non-prescription ones at Claires!) and then at least if I hate them, I will only have spent $10.
http://www.claires.com/store/goods/Teens/cat310070/Frames/p1000475/Black-Leopard-Frames/
Moroccan Oil is the best! I started using the shampoo and conditioner when I got the Brazilian Blowout and I LOVE it. The stuff lasts forever. And smells great too!
Bible reading & espresso, sounds like my kind of night
Love these posts!!! I also love bible reading in bed but, sadly, I lack an espresso maker
maybe one day! I gotta try this magic oil and lotion…love beauty products!!
Oh, and the glasses are presh…definite yes!!!
You look great in those glasses! You can totally rock them! I like how the black frames contrast with the very-blonde of your hair.
This is the second rave review I have read about Moroccan Oil today. I am definitely going to get some! And I am definitely going to bake those brownies.
I seem to be the odd one out, but I say no on the glasses. Most hipster stuff seems to give the impression of trying too hard, but maybe I’m just not hip enough to get it.
check out costalcontacts.com they sell glasses and contacts and pretty much every other day they have a special for FREE glasses. I got a pair and they are totally awesome and it only cost me 10 bucks to ship it to my house. i swear im a real live person and i have nothing to do with this site, i just enjoy passing on some good stuff. check them out on fb too, thats where they post their free offers.
Jenna ~ from what I can see, you so look like your grandmother!
i own a pair of warby parker and they really are amazing glasses! get em! everyone looks good in big rimmed glasses.
xoxo

Yummy. I can’t wait to try those amazeballs looking brownies. Love that awesome shot of your grandparents, it’s super glamorous. The glasses look cute and I know my crazy out of control curly hair could definitely benefit from some Moroccan Oil.
Yay to big hipster glasses. I’m waaay too blind and wear them everyday!
Question: What parts of the bible are your favorite? What version bible do you read? I am interested in incorporating more spirituality into my life.
Love this post!
I love…all of it! the books of romans, hebrews and corinthians particularly speak to me and I also love old testament stories like Ruth and Esther!
Ok, so if I go out and buy a bible.. (I’m starting fresh here!) what version do you think is the best? The old testament? The King James version seems too easy huh?.. I really appreciate your feedback- and could really use some positive reading.. to keep me motivated on my path to trying to get into grad school and believing in my journey.
I’m just jumping in here–I would try the New Living Translation or the Message Bible which is like a modern paraphrase of the Bible. I like both of them!
ps—sarah, i miss you!
Ok thanks I will look it up! Thanks again
wow…your all inspiring me to pick up the Bible now…
The only thing that bothers me on this blog are the references to the Bible, in these moments I realize I am not american …
Anne, I am an American and an atheist. You reaction isn’t necessarily a foreign thing.
But I mostly enjoy the blog! If it is a particularly religious day over here, or if there is content with political implications I dislike, I come back another day. Other blogs I have stopped reading permanently because I became so uncomfortable with the politics, but this one only rarely feels alienating to me, and so I stick around for the photos!
You need those glasses for when your book is released!!
I use this stuff called Mira Hair Oil… I think it is similar to Moroccan Oil. Love it!
those hipster glasses are rockin’ on you! I cannot pull them off, but I can pull off the skinny jeans/chuck t’s combination. I say if you like them GET THEM!
Love the glasses on you…so cute! I just had lasik and *occasionally* miss wearing my glasses as a fashion accessory…but I suppose I could get fake ones. And Moraccan Oil is the best thing ever! I have really long hair and it turns into a tangled mess if I don’t use this stuff. Not to mention my hair dries in half the time! Love these posts!
love the glasses! I want a pair like those that have my prescription.
Yes, where did summer go after all!
I too am lovin that moroccan oil and now they have a “light” version which is great if you have fine hair.
I say…Rock those glasses!
The glasses look soooo cute on you! I say you order them…. you know, if you want.
That is a really cool photo of your g-parents! Very mod!
I’m loving Moroccan oil too! My hairdresser always puts some in my hair when I get a cut and colour and I love the smell, so I finally caved and bought some to treat my parched ends. I’m a little heartbroken though…we’re going on vacation in a week and I’d planned to bring the bottle with me, until I knocked it off the counter the other morning and the lid cracked in half
It still covers the bottle but it’s certainly not in travelling condition. Boo!
Yes to the glasses. Adorable! I’m with you on the espresso and Helene’s book – both great ways to while away the morning hours.
Warby Parker’s are amazzing!! My friend works for them and has converted all of my friends and even my boyfriend into Warby Parker lovers. They are slightly hipster but you’re definitely cool enough to pull them off! As an added bonus it’s a great company with an awesome business model!
what great glasses! love ‘em
Love those glasses on you! Not sure I could pull them off but you rock them! And that picture of your gparents is just about the most adorable thing ever. I love old photos like that!
Love the glasses. I sort of have hipster glasses in high school. Actually, they were a little more emo than hipster but that’s what you get for growing up in New Jersey!
I am obssessed with Moroccan oil.
End of summer…I am loving FIGS! Random, I know, but so good!
Jenna, I love your necklace in the Warby Parker picture. Can I ask where you got it?
I got it from Anthropolgie….clearance for $10!
Love the necklace in your glasses pic. Where did you get it?
I’m so pumped you shared this photography book! I’ve been following your blog for a few weeks now and I constantly ask myself “how can I start taking photos like this.” Thanks for sharing!
Moraccan Oil is the ish!!! The shampoo and conidtioner are also very worthy investments!
Those brownies don’t look too bad either …
Love Moroccan Oil! I have used it for a couple of years now and a few months ago found some by the brand Organixx at WalMart, it is exactly the same and 1/3 of the cost! They also make a shampoo and conditioner.
That MUST be your mom’s mother, huh? They look alike in a big way!
Totally love those glasses! I just ordered a pair like it myself
That picture of your grandparents is so fabulous – so fashionable!
That picture of your grandparents is amazing. Why was everyone so much more glamorous back then? Where did it all go!?
Argan oil is also called Moroccan Oil. However, there is a company that market a product that is not pure argan oil under the brand Moroccan Oil. Their product is mostly for hair and contains a lot of silicons and less than two percent argan oil. Like you said, I have bought pure argan oil from Amazon and it is truly amazing for hair, face, body and nails. I found the brand Mogador Argan Oil to be amazing, moderately priced and it has no additives or fragrance.
I just bought that photography book and am nose deep. I LOVE it…I’m so excited about photography, now.
Another vote for the glasses! My man has similar ones, LOVE that look. Super cool. Thanks for the book link – just requested it for my birthday
Heidi xo
The book Plate to Pixels is just what I have been looking for. Thanks for the recommendation!
Love the glasses on you & you look like your grandmother! I love random “What I love” posts because it introduces me to lots of new products / items. Keep these posts coming.
OveLoves
Jenna, I love everything about your grandmother in that photo. She’s stunningly beautiful, and I would love to steal that hair and dress.
Don’t get me wrong, you look great in the glasses, but I think the hipster glasses trend is kind of obnoxious, especially since they are so popular now. Just my opinion! But you do pull them off well!
LOVE the grandparents pic!
the glasses totally suit you… you’re so pretty!
I LOVE old photos. They are so glamorous. I have quite a collection. I definitely want to check out the Moroccan oil because I swim for exercise and it dries out my hair so bad!
the glasses look really cute! I love them
Yes to the glasses and Yes to bible reading in bed with espresso. Perfect combo.
Rocking the glasses. Love it. There’s a cross of sexy librarian and Buddy Holly. Lol.
Love the hipster glasses! They look so fallish and cozy – goes perfect with your espresso
I love “favorites” posts like these. I always end up finding new things to love!
I totally have that necklace!! I just got it a month or so ago on super sale at Anthropologie. I hope you got it on sale too. $29.99, baby!
maybe it’s all of the Mad Men I’ve been watching recently, but I love retro specs. they knew good design then, and I think it’s perfectly acceptable now. while I don’t NEED glasses, I do have a pair of frames that I wear when I want to appear extra scholarly. maybe it’s a little nerdy, but I am a nerd
Those glasses are absolutely adorable on you!!! Get them!
love the glasses! you look just like your grandmother!
I think the hipster glasses look cute!! I have some Tory Burch frames I <3 that are thick dark rims but they're not as wide as those one.
Morrocan oil has also change my bleached out, highlighted, dead hair into silky ‘goddess’ hair…well… not really. But still …amazing stuff.
You have your grandmother’s cheekbones! What an awesome old photo, so glam.
Jenna I am so excited you posted about those glasses…been looking for that kind of thing and was about to try and get some Kate Spade readers fitted with RX lenses but the Warby Parker stuff looks amazing! And you can try them on for free at home? Genius.
I honestly think those glasses look great on you, especially with the way you’re wearing your hair. Most of the time those glasses just stand out on their own on people but it all blends well on you. Cheers.
Jenna- that Moroccan oil is a dream come true! I use it too all the time! My brother’s gf is a stylist and she brings it for me. She also told me she uses a little dab instead of lotion after shaving her legs!
Moroccan oil is the best thing since sliced bread. I ran out of it recently, and saved the empty bottle just so I could grab a whiff of it when I want to feel like I’m at the beach.
And the glasses? Yes, definitely go for it. They’re adorable!
The glasses look really cute on you. I say get them!
I have Warby Parker sunglasses and I. Am. Obsessed. They are the best glasses I’ve ever owned. My regular eyeglasses are a hipster-esque pair of Ray Bans & I’m in love with those as well. Judging from the picture, I think you could totally rock that style!
