Behind The Butter

what i’m loving now (end of summer edition)

Can you believe tomorrow is September 1st?!?!

I can’t.

It seems like just yesterday I was on a red eye flight coming home to surprise my mom for Mother’s Day. Or…racing in an ambulance to a Tahoe hospital after Adam crushed his shoulder on the slopes.  <—there’s a video of that somewhere on the internets but I can’t force myself to relive the memory.

Anyway! I haven’t done one of these posts in awhile so here’s a few things I’m really loving now. Starting with the above espresso.

I have one every single morning. It’s the perfect accompaniment to bible reading in bed. That way my prayers are extra fast and caffeinated. I think hope Jesus understands.

My mom works at a spa so I get dibs on the good stuff, and this Moroccan oil has quite simply changed my life. I was never a believer before, but it really is gold in a bottle. One little drop on your ends after getting out of the shower equals silky soft hair all day long. It’s totally amazing and rumor has it, you can get it on Amazon! What can’t you get on Amazon?

And while we’re talking beauty products, let me introduce you to my favorite lotion on the face of this great earth. Once you use this stuff you’ll never be able to use anything else again. It’s that addicting. It’s perfect for the red chapped hands of those of us that dishes all day! I started using it in college and can’t go a day without it.

My parents just brought me this photo of my grandparents circa 1969. Isn’t it fab?

This book by Helene has really changed the way I look at photography! In my opinion, it’s the best resource out there for food bloggers and there’s some great recipes in it as well! If you buy one book on food photography, make this it.

Big hipster glasses? Yes, no??? I can’t decide. These actually aren’t mine—they were part of a free home try on program by Warby Parker. I sent them back the other day but since I need new glasses anyway, I’m still considering ordering them (my grandfather appears to be wearing them as well in the above photo). And then sitting in my house afraid to go outside.

These brownies. Again and again and again. Things like this never get old.

Espresso is my favorite way to start the day too – we are actually so lazy (and addicted?) that we moved our espresso machine to the bedroom, so don’t even need to leave the room to enjoy a yummy cup!

You do rock the glasses. But I thought they were out? Way out?
Daughter convinced me they were when she convinced me she needed *new* glasses after just a year…. Jeesh.
The Moroccan Oii definitely rock.s. After the first bottle we cheaped out, (shhhh, don’t tell anyone) and bought the Argon oil from Sally’s Beauty Supply. It smells the same and works beautifully on a budget!
Now to check out the classic brownies!

Argan oil is also called Moroccan Oil. However, there is a company that market a product that is not pure argan oil under the brand Moroccan Oil. Their product is mostly for hair and contains a lot of silicons and less than two percent argan oil. Like you said, I have bought pure argan oil from Amazon and it is truly amazing for hair, face, body and nails. I found the brand Mogador Argan Oil to be amazing, moderately priced and it has no additives or fragrance.

I LOVE old photos. They are so glamorous. I have quite a collection. I definitely want to check out the Moroccan oil because I swim for exercise and it dries out my hair so bad!

maybe it’s all of the Mad Men I’ve been watching recently, but I love retro specs. they knew good design then, and I think it’s perfectly acceptable now. while I don’t NEED glasses, I do have a pair of frames that I wear when I want to appear extra scholarly. maybe it’s a little nerdy, but I am a nerd 🙂

I think the hipster glasses look cute!! I have some Tory Burch frames I <3 that are thick dark rims but they're not as wide as those one.

Morrocan oil has also change my bleached out, highlighted, dead hair into silky ‘goddess’ hair…well… not really. But still …amazing stuff.
You have your grandmother’s cheekbones! What an awesome old photo, so glam.

Jenna I am so excited you posted about those glasses…been looking for that kind of thing and was about to try and get some Kate Spade readers fitted with RX lenses but the Warby Parker stuff looks amazing! And you can try them on for free at home? Genius.

I honestly think those glasses look great on you, especially with the way you’re wearing your hair. Most of the time those glasses just stand out on their own on people but it all blends well on you. Cheers.

Jenna- that Moroccan oil is a dream come true! I use it too all the time! My brother’s gf is a stylist and she brings it for me. She also told me she uses a little dab instead of lotion after shaving her legs!

Moroccan oil is the best thing since sliced bread. I ran out of it recently, and saved the empty bottle just so I could grab a whiff of it when I want to feel like I’m at the beach.

And the glasses? Yes, definitely go for it. They’re adorable!

I have Warby Parker sunglasses and I. Am. Obsessed. They are the best glasses I’ve ever owned. My regular eyeglasses are a hipster-esque pair of Ray Bans & I’m in love with those as well. Judging from the picture, I think you could totally rock that style!
