Good morning!
Happy Tuesday 🙂
I started my day with some crack and a banana:
Crack being blue gatorade. Obviously.
I also mixed half water half gatorade in my water bottle and took it along for the run…
And then I ran about three miles. It was hard to get used to sipping warm weak gatorade when I’m used to drinking cold water from my camel bak, and I didn’t really like it, but I feel great right now! No headache, no fatigue….we’ll see how the rest of the day goes but so far so good!
I honestly wasn’t incredibly hungry after my run so I showered first then made a bowl of cereal!
Watermelon!!
I have a feeling I will be eating watermelon for a very, very, VERY long time. Good thing I love it so! 😉
Busy day…I must flee!

August 4, 2009 at 8:17 amYay for no headache! I just got home from running 2.6 miles and didn’t do a good job of pre-hydrating, but I still feel okay. And not hungry,so weird! Have a great day 🙂

August 4, 2009 at 8:27 amGlad you had a great run. And smart to water down your Gatorade. We used to do the with Orange Juice to stay hydrated..worth a try, maybe!?
Hope the rest of your day is fabulous!!!

August 4, 2009 at 9:11 amGirl, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with chowing down on enormous quantities of watermelon ANY day – I know I’ve eaten more than my fair share of it this summer! It’s also comforting to know there’s more waiting for me right down the road in the big display at the grocery store……. 🙂

August 4, 2009 at 9:18 amGlad the Gatorade worked! I’m a fan of the blue kind myself.

August 4, 2009 at 9:33 ami hope it works out for you! glad there’s no headache right now.
you could fill up your bottle the night before and freeze it for a while, then put it in the fridge right before you go to bed. it might stay colder that way.
OR make gatorade ice cubes and just add those to water in your bottle.

August 4, 2009 at 9:33 amGlad the gatorade helped – I love sipping gatorade after a run in the heat.

August 4, 2009 at 9:48 amThat watermelon looks so juicy, YUM!! Good job with the run 🙂 I’m trying to build up my endurance -I’m not a runner at all!- and I started to walk/run for a couple of miles a few times a week. It’s so tiring at first…

August 4, 2009 at 9:57 amWatermelon (and cantaloupe and honeydew) are perfect for staying hydrated. Mmm, I love summer fruits! Congrats on starting your day off with a fab run 🙂

August 4, 2009 at 10:12 amWatermelon is the best after a hot run! I never believed sports drinks really worked when I was playing sports in high school and college, but once I started running, that stuff is like magic!

Love, LOVE watermelon!
Denise (apple hill adventurer)
August 4, 2009 at 10:30 amhmm watered down gatorade, probably not too tasy. but hey, if it keeps you feeling great, i am sure you will get used to it 🙂
i usually just drink tons of water before and after my runs, it would probably be smarter for me to start taking a water bottle with me though!
Sarah
August 4, 2009 at 10:32 amYay for no headache!! I switched to a 4 bottle Fuel Belt for around my waist. I love it! I used to carry just water or gatorade, but now can carry any combination of each up to 32 ounces (plus a pouch for keys/Gu/gum). Maybe try dropping some ice cubes in your bottle before your run tomorrow?
Sarah
August 4, 2009 at 10:45 amHope the blue gatorade helps!!
I don’t know if this is happening for anyone else, but I only now get one post per page on your blog. Is there any way to fix this?? I hate having to click back and back and back to catch up from a few days!

August 4, 2009 at 10:59 ami’m personally more of a grape powerade type of person, but the blue dye in blue gatorade has been found to reduce spinal injuries (by increasing recovery time) in mice, so yay for your crack! last time i checked i thought gatorade had HFCS though, which i try to avoid 🙁

August 4, 2009 at 11:11 amI love watermelon too. They had giant seedless ones for 4.99 at Costco. Wish I’d picked one up.

August 4, 2009 at 11:35 amI’m never hungry right after a run either, but I always have to force a little something since post-fuel is so important! 😀
Yummy watermelon! Its the best summer fruit. 😀

August 4, 2009 at 11:35 amI ran with my camelback yesterday for the first time in over 3 years. I got really dehydrated the other day on a 6 mile run–to the point where my legs got weak, and I thought I was going to pass out! I vowed to take water with me from now on!
Julie
August 4, 2009 at 11:49 amIsn’t it funny how people refer to gatorade flavors as colors?! Like, what flavor is blue anyway? Or red for that matter? haha
HeatherBakes
August 4, 2009 at 12:06 pmYeah- other than gels, nothing really beats gatorade for keeping energy up during long/hot runs.
Glad you had a good workout! That watermelon probably helps with the hydration, too!
Maria
August 4, 2009 at 12:33 pmI got that cereal the other day too! It’s so delicious with the chunks of pecan and maple flavor, mmm! I love buying Costco watermelon because I could eat it forever 😉

August 4, 2009 at 12:43 pmHi Jenna-
Could you do a post on running? I have always tried to be a runner, with little success. I always find myself tired, cramping up, or short of breath. I have to be doing something wrong. Could you give us some tips on form, technique and how to get through the “blahhs” of being a beginning runner?

August 4, 2009 at 12:48 pmHi Jenna, I’m wondering if there’s a reason that only one post is visible per page now. It’s much easier to read the way that it was previously. Love your blog, thanks 🙂

August 4, 2009 at 12:53 pmPearl,
Unfortunately because of my server problems, I have to do it this way right now 🙁 I’m sorry..hopefully it can be resolved in the future!

August 4, 2009 at 1:45 pmI’ve been so watermelon obsessed lately! Yours looks fantastic!

August 4, 2009 at 1:51 pmCarry the Gatorade/water if you want, but there’s really no way you should be getting dehydrated during a 3 mile run if you’re drinking enough water during the day. I live in Houston and train for marathons and it’s super hot and humid here. I never carry water with me, just stop at water fountains sometimes during the really long runs. It’s important to drink lots of water all day long, not just before, during, and after your run.

August 4, 2009 at 1:58 pmmy favorite gatorade is fruit punch 🙂 haha. That cereal also looks really good 🙂

August 4, 2009 at 7:14 pmHey Jenna! I love your blog 🙂
I was wondering if you had any advice for me. I really want to get into running but I am so out of shape I can barely even run half a mile. How did you get into running and was it hard for you at first?
At this point it is hard to imagine ever being able to run 3 miles like you did today.
