Breakfast

Crunching Words and Almonds

Sadly there’s no more California sunshine to be found. I think its going to be a cold, wet week. 🙁 Bummer!

Hot oatmeal for breakfast (I haven’t had hot oatmeal in…a week?!):

Headed to the studio in a couple hours for my “Tuesday/Thursday workout group”….I think we are doing a rather intense CrossFit workout today, but definitely not outside! As for the rest of the day….I’ll be either home, at the library or at the coffee shop…writing, writing, writing. It’s CRUNCH TIME!

Okay…I would also like to be either at home, at the library or the coffee shop.
    Ughh.
Do you ever get “tired” of writing your book Jenna? Is that your plans for the rest of your life – to write more books? And is it more of a “memoir” or a cookbook?!!

      February 23, 2010 at 9:41 am

      eatmovelove,

I adore writing and writing books is what I want to do for the rest of my life…its definitely not easy but I try to embrace all aspects of the process and am just using this time as a period of growth and maturation as a writer. This book will be a memoir with recipes…my next book will probably be a collection of poems.

Aaah you’ve got my (almost) all time favourite oatmeal combo there 🙂 – just add in a load of granola and grape nuts and you’d have a major win of a bowl!
    Have a good afternoon 🙂

CrossFit! Is this your first time doing a CF workout? My husband and I have been doing it for almost 2 years and it is INTENSE! Watch out too because it’s addictive!
p.s. Don’t let the CrossFit people try to tell you that yoga or Pilates aren’t CrossFit compatable. I do Pilates, running and CF and it’s a powerful combo.
    Have fun!

omg I have been MIA on checking your blog for awhile and just got a chance to see your NEW LOOK!! Love the dark color – makes your eyes pop and hair look shinier. Would love to know if you think people treat you differently now as a brunette? I’ve done it all – blonde, brunette, redhead – and guys especially act COMPLETELY different around me depending on the shade.

It is cold and miserable where I am too! I hate those days when the sun doesn’t shine and it is cold and drizzly. I find it definitely alters my mood so I always have to supplement with good food and good movies! A day to be cozy for sure!

Question and I’m sorry if you already answered it 10000 times, but can’t find it! Do you soak your oats before making oatmeal? And do you use the microwave or stovetop?

I always used the microwave, but found that stovetop oats (soaked first) are more creamy, especially after ‘whipping’ them. Curious about your ‘oats style’!

And good luck with the writing!

Random question – I know you used to live in Orlando and I’m going there on vacation in a week. Any good restaurant suggestions? I’m preggers – so no sushi or fish-focused places! Thanks!

It’s pouring rain here on the Monterey Coast–which is good for a sunshine lover as keeps me inside working on my writing project and the sound of the rain is nice company.

Hope Dexter enjoyed his nice brushing! I get canned pink salmon at TJs and mix that with watercress, sea salt and whatever for lunch, first taking out a big tablespoon of salmon for cat–loves it and makes his coat gorgeous…along with daily brush. Yes, as a matter of fact AM a little cat-crazy. 🙂

Good writing Jenna, will be so exciting to finally buy/read your book–really looking forward to it!

what type of oatmeal do you use? ive always wondered!

    • jenna
      February 23, 2010 at 3:23 pm

      Juliet,

I like old fashioned but this is just generic supermarket brand quick oats.

      Sarah,

Yep, I make them on the stovetop. I have a microwave but its in the garage and its just quicker for me to do it stovetop than drag the micro in the house and plug it in. Plus, I like to prepare food stovetop whenever I can versus the microwave…I’m old fashioned that way. 🙂

      Rebecca,

Hmm Caitlin (healthytippingpoint.com) or Meghann (graduatemeghann.com) might be better to answer that question because they live in Orlando. When i was there I worked for a seafood restaurant–Roy’s–which is amazing and on Sandlake road but they don’t have many other non-fishy options on the menu.

      Julia,

I don’t soak my oats unless I’m making overnight oats. And yes, I cook on the stovetop.

    Jenna

I’m having a quarter life crisis and wondered if you could give me some of your wisedom. I got a fantastic job in another city (a 1.5 hour flight away) and am freaking out. I have always lived at home (college here is close as), and this is my first big move. I am so nervous/anxious about it. You have done this a couple of times now, and seem to cope well. Do you have any advice? Any would be so appreciated :S)
