Lunch

Drink Like a Camel

Lunch with Caitlin was sooo fun and yummy!!!

I’m mad that we only met when we did….when I’m about to move away! We have a ton in common and it was a lot of fun to hang out and get to know each other a little bit. We planned do some runs together during the next month and she said she was going to run the half marathon with me in Tampa in February! Yay!

And of course, Yellow Dogs Eat was fantastic! I had made up my mind weeks ago that I wanted to order the “Johnny Rocket” sammie.

It did not fail me!! This delicious sandwich was made up of turkey, smoked gouda cheese, cranberry sauce, cherry pepper rings, lettuce and tomato on their soft multigrain bread. Very yummy AND healthy!

About an hour before lunch I couldn’t take it anymore and snacked on half a peanut butter cookie larabar (!!!) to tide me over:

And just now I had a big crisp apple with a spoonful of almond butter:

I finally got one of this nifty “Camel Baks” based on Caitlin’s recommendation. I’d been using this sort of ghetto belt that only held 16 oz of water. It was annoying because the belt would jiggle on my lower back and sometimes would fall down. I was constantly tugging on it to tighten it and whatnot.

So, I bring you the Camel Bak:

This little backpack holds 1.5 liters of water and I can sip it while I run instead of having to walk and drink. I’ll probably look like Scuba Steve when I wear it but at least I’ll stay hydrated in the hot Florida sun!

    karen,

I always try to run before the sun comes up or after the sun goes down…but when it is daytime when I run, I always have on my favorite Ole Henrikson spf 30 sunscreen. I’m a huge fan of this product!

I have a water belt with 2 small water bottles on it, and I have only worn it a few times. IT was a birthday gift for me a few years ago, and I regret that I didn’t return it for the Camelback. I think the Camel would’ve fit better and distributed the water weight on me better. The belt I have moves around a lot and chafes, it’s just not that comfortable. Let me know how you like this one, I’d be interested in your opinion and rating!

Love the camelback! I have often thought about getting one but never ended up doing it. Please let us know what you think of it after a few tries 🙂

Lunch looks great – love smoked gouda. Glad you got to meet Caitlin!

    smjohnson,

We probably had the same belt! I’ve worn mine a lot but it always shifted around, chafed me and didn’t hold that much water. This was kind of expensive ($40.00) but I think it will be worth it! I’ll let everyone know how it goes! 🙂 I might get some strange honks from interested drivers….

So camelbak? Is this like a backpack?? Is it cumbersome? It’s a great idea and great on long runs!!!

    Review please!!!

Haha! I actually was the biggest dork EVER this afternoon and filled it with some water, put it on my back and walked around my apartment drinking the water out of the tube. That could have been a video but no one was here to tape me!!!!!!! 🙂 It’s NOT heavy but I suppose that depends on how much water you fill it with. It can hold 1.5 liters! I’m not running tomorrow (I WANT to but don’t want to risk injury by running 2 days in a row) but I will do a full review of it later this week when I run outside again!
